  • This week on the Vickers Tactical Channel I get my hands on the SIG Sauer 553P in .300 Blackout. Imported as pistols by my good buddy Dave Wagner at JDI, Firearms, this is an AK style weapon made to Rolex standards, and there are still a few available for you to own today. Not a US 556 but the genuine Swiss SiG AG /SAN 550, 551, 552 and 553 are available through JDI
They are only small batch guns though typically batches of 50 but have seen some like Larry said around 150 in a batch they are typically sold out within a day or two so you need to pay attention to what is available

I carried a modified AMD 65 in Afghanistan and fell in love with that weapon format. When I got home I bought what I thought would be a technological improvement, the SIG 556R patrol. It was great for a few years, but SIG doesn't support their products after they release them, and the gun got long in the tooth. SIG guns are like Iphones, planned obsolesce and no aftermarket products once a newer model comes out. Sold the SIG and built a custom AR pistol with all the features I craved out of this weapon: AR-Stoner side charging upper receiver, LAW folding stock adaptor, Adams Arms piston system; the whole build was less than what I sold the SIG 556R for.

This is a problem with Sig, but not an uncommon one. HK abandoned the G36 after its patent expired.
Look at the SIG MCX. It’s essentially an AR18 with tweaks to make it proprietary.
Now look brownell’s BRN 180 at a much lower price point - which shares those features you’re looking for.

If you ever get the opportunity, I’d love to see a breakdown/review of the Swedish Saab Bofors CBJ MS. It’s a very unusual weapon, being designed to fulfill 3 separate roles of a PDW, primary fighting rifle, and a light support machine gun. Not to mention it can be field converted to fire either 9x19 or the proprietary 6.5x25 mm CBJ. Which like the FN 5.7 and HK’s 4.6x30 has AP capabilities and many specialized variants of the base cartridge.

I've always thought about it like this as far as ballistics go with .300 blackout. Full power loads are basically the same as a .30/30 and the subsonic rounds are like a .45acp round. I personally don't have any experience with the whisper round..LAV says they are essentially interchangeable..so I would imagine about the same. And as he's doing in the video...either can be used unsuppressed. They just shine as a suppressed round. I know several people that have .300 blackout uppers just to slap on and be able to hunt with..Va doesn't allow anything under a .243 for big game hunting. .223/.556 is a no go as of right now. I'm thinking about going that route myself. Just to have a more versatile AR platform. ✌️

Why is everything I love so expensive???
Maybe if I start lying to my wife now, saying "I can't find my sig 553"...
By the time I save the money to afford it, she may actually believe I've already had the gun it for a long time....🤔🤔🤔

300blk is a niche gun and the 7,62x39 outperforms It easily .

Hi Larry, I heard some rumor about sf guys using sg55x platform back in 90s or early 2000s. Is it true?
