Try using a shovel when putting your tires back on. Just roll the tire onto the shovel then using the leverage push down on the handle to lift the tire. It’s actually worth just buying a cheap shovel that has the right angle to save your back. I saw an old timer mechanic do this one time and it made so much sense. I do it every time now for my F150 with BFG 305s. Thanks for the video - I’ve done one of my IWEs as well.
Factory service manual actually recommends pushing the iwe into the unlock position and placing a vacuum cap on the port. Makes installation easier as you don't have to worry about the ring engaging the wheel bearing assembly. Also limits chance of damage when reinstalling the axle. This way obviously works as well.
I’ve never owned a pickup truck but I been thinking about it a lot lately and it’ll definitely be an f150 I love yours dude it’s my style you get the sub 💪
Just a tip for those that have this 4X4 system. ALWAYS stop completely before engaging 4X4, I know it "says" you can slow roll engage, but you saw that skinny plastic ring holding that gear on there. All it takes is a little lateral force and she snaps right off. And a tip for installing heavy wheels. Straddle the wheel with both legs, lift with your legs and your arms on the outside of the tire to guide it into place. Watching you bend sideways trying to row the tire on was making my back hurt just looking at it.
Haha I tried that way with my legs as well but couldn’t get it. Lifted with my legs and got them back on. Plus, I had another car at my back so didn’t have much room behind me to work.
Im just curious if the noise was intermittent. I have replaced my 4wd solenoid and check valve. Like your truck the sound on mine seems to be coming from the driver side. It wont make the noise for a while when driving in 2wd but once it starts it will keep doing it. I have vacuum tested the lines like 3 times but I will one more time before I purchase the IWE's just to be sure. Thank you for any help.
It was intermittent for a bit and then eventually when they totally failed, it was all time. Willing to bet you’ll need to get a new IWE. I too tried to remedy it with the solenoid and check valve, but knew the IWE was going to need to be done. Nearly a year later and it hasn’t made a single noise since I replaced them.
@@AutofreakgarageI’m going with a Dorman IWE and replacing both of them tonight I need to be on the highway tomorrow🤣. You’re by far the best when it comes to responding to comments thank you very much
Hey Great video. I heard you say you bought both for around 250 at your local store. Which store? Cuz i can't find anyone here in CO. I HAVE A 16 F150.
Hey man same here I have a 16 aswell. I noticed no auto zones or orileys or napas carried the actuators for 16 and newer models. I found a set of 2 on Broadway truck i think the site is called for about 300 bucks with shipping to Alaska. It seems these stores only carry the actuators up to year 2015, so I assume the truck in this video is 15 or older. In the pictures they look about the same but I didn't want to risk it so I made sure I got the right one, and yes it's the H1z part number. I'm replacing mine this afternoon. Wish me luck, also Goodluck to you too
@@7limey I could not find any one who carries them except for dealer and eBay. The ebay is def. after market but listed as OEM. My biggest question to help me identify true OEM is: Does the IWE have the HL1 part # engraved onto it just like the FoMoCo? Then i can do some more digging..
Hey man, just installed the MBRP 4 inch exhaust catback.... has some drone to it and little too loud for me. MBRP is offering half off a quiet tone muffler to add between the cat and the resonator. Any recommendations for this? I like the sound, just too loud in my opinion. Do you think it would quiet down the cabin noise?
@ it’s-4 F and cold where I am, if it’s was summer time I would replaced myself. My garage is small for the truck and too cold to be doing it out side.
I saved this video for when my IWEs fail. Great job and you did save a ton of money

Awesome f150 content. Love the channel. Great tutorial for when my IWEs fail. Appreciate it
Great video, Chris. Always replace both sides when they go. I’m at 75k on my 17 and I already had them replaced twice. 😊

2 pry bars, don't lift.
Great video , thanks! First video I’ve seen on your channel. I’m now going to see if you did one on the Bilstein shocks install for the front end.

Well that was a great video ! Nice job thanks for this tutoring it's very insightful and save a lot of money ! Thank you again
I bet that was pretty good for your mpg too
I actually noticed a slight bump in mpg since I fixed this. Now that is properly in 2H, seems to be doing less work and saving some mpg’s!
Great video. What wheel and tire size u runnin?

Ford dealer
Awesome. Did your IWE have the H1Z.. part number stamped into it?
I don’t recall if it had it in there but most likely since every part has a sticker or stamped p# on them.

Definitely should cut down on the drone and volume.
What are the torque specs? If you can post that would be great
👌🏼
Im pretty sure my passenger side just went out today.
Get it fixed asap! Hope my video makes the fix easy for you.
I got a $2400 bill for my IWE and hub assembly 😢.
Yikes! Wish you saw my video before you got to done.

Sit down and lift the tire with your feet
