I was five years old when my dad traded in his 1957 yellow Bel Air standard for a 1961 Impala sport coupe automatic. He had the six cylinder version in white with blue trim and blue interior. We were Chevy fans in the 1950's, 60's, and 70's. I'm 67 years old now. Great memories on great classic cars times. Thanks for the video and ride on the magnificent 1961 Chevrolet Impala.
Juan you’re a Lucky guy! My old man preferred dowdy, cheap Ford’s! Had a ‘59 Galaxie which wasn’t too bad, but traded it in on a refrigerator white ‘65 Falcon. My mom HATED that car!
I LOVE Resto-Mods, and this sweet Impala is among the best of the best! I had the pleasure of owning a 1961 Impala Super Sport for over 20 years and miss it dearly. Nothing like the sound of that throaty '348' engine breathing through a 4-barrel carb and oversized dual exhausts. Thank you Lou and Mike for the memories! ~Dale Walker (Founder of the "National Impala Association" back in the day!) ❤😎
Lou the 1961 has a tie to my family. My grandfather gave his Daughter my Aunt Ann. A white convertible with red interior for graduation from High School. Not sure which engine. I was thinking that it was a 327. Beautiful car. And this 2 door was gorgeous. Thank you for sharing! 💯❤️👊👍

Excellent job going through the brouchure, Lou. Not too fast, not too slow. Just right. I felt like we were shopping for a new car. All beautiful in my opinion. And thanks for super cool bonus. Great job by the owner on restomod.
1961 Chevrolet Impala is a beautiful looking car, I remember, when I was a kid in early 1960's, seeing them around and it was brand spanking new! Thank you for sharing it, Lou!
Yes, not many 1961 models are seen today……even in Florida. A wonderful example of styling in this era. The exhaust sound is mellow. Corvette wheel trim would look great with the crossed flags. I did have a View Master and reels when I was a younger kid than now. Thank you Lou.
Steven, the 1961 Impala Super Sport (most people don't know they even existed) featured 1961 Full Wheel Covers with 1962 SS Spinners attached. Very stylish and quite reminiscent of the Corvette wheel trim.
Lou, just another wonderful car and caretaker! Such styling from yesteryear and some tasteful modifications making it much better. Lou, you have the best job in the world and nothing but happy clients!😀😀😀❤️❤️👍
Lou, you've knocked it out of the park once again! This is my favorite Chevy outside of the Corvette. The "W" heads are also known as "Porcupine" heads. The 348 is the beginning of the BIG blocks from Chevrolet. Ah the good old days! You'll never see these kinds of cars being made again. Sadly we've lost the real American ingenuity to foreign makes. But at least you can go back in time with these kinds of cars. Wonderful car. Keep em coming😅😅👍👍💯
Hi Paul, Happy to read "This is my favorite Chevy outside of the Corvette" :-) Good news! The cars we enjoy from yesteryear are all right one this Channel for us to enjoy again and again and again :-) Lou
I owned a '61 Biscayne that I took to college in the early 70's. Mine was as stripper as they came, even down to a recirc heater instead of fresh air. But what a great car! I loved it for its simplicity, for its good looks, and for its reliability. This Impala has those qualities with just a much higher level of furnishings. It's amazing how fresh these '61 models looked when introduced right after the obese '59-60 models, which were also attractive. You could keep the dog dish speakers on the inside here, but I really like the neat and trim and discreet add-on a/c. Thanks so much for picking this one!
Pretty Sweet !! It's a good thing I'm not rich ,I'd have to have way too many out buildings to house all the cars I'd just have to have ! Thanks again Lou.

the crossed flags always indicated that this chevy came with a big block engine. chevrolet used them for quite a while. 61 chevys always reminded me of the 58. this 61 is a beauty. THANKS LOU.
What a perfect combination of curves, color, and chrome! All of the upgrades are tastefully done and it looks like a perfect cruiser for any occasion. Thanks for finding and sharing Mr. Powles and his '61 Bubble Top with us, Lou!
Bill M is the only one to comment on the fact that this car no longer has the 2 Speed Power Glide Transmission in it. Bill thinks that it has a 3 Speed Auto Trans, but Bill did not pick up on that after the 1, 2, 3 it has an O around the D. That means that this car has an Overdrive Automatic Transmission in it. Because this car has a 348 in it, my thinking is that it has a 700R4 in it or it could have the Electronic Version the 4L60E or the Electronic Version of the 400 with Overdrive the 4L80E. With an Overdrive Transmission this car should get 19 -21 MPG...if you lay off the gas pedal. GREAT CAR Lou!!! THANK-YOU!!!
Hi Lou, This was a real treat. My brother-in-law had a 61 Chevy back in the 80's and we called it the Blue Cloud do to its blue paint job and how smooth it rode. This 61 Impala is beautiful. Thanks for getting it on "My Car Story." Love your videos

My brother had a white '61 bubble top with a 283 so smooth that many times the ignition key got turned with the engine already running. Best visibility of any car I've ever been in. One of the best Impalas ever.

Nice car I love it, when I was 16 in 1969 I raced a 59 ? Ford hardtop convertible @ Colonial Beach Dragway the only time I ever raced @ a dragstrip & won a trophy & still have it, I was driving a 1961 2door sedan Chevrolet, I don't remember the trim package, maybe biscayne, it had a 327 hopped up a bit with 3 speed stick in the floor, @ the time my dad had a used car lot & junk yard, would love to have some of those old cars today, again the bubble top 61 , " I call it " is a beautiful car !!!! Stephen Hayden, Northern Neck of Virginia.
Beautiful 61 Impala Lou. You don't see many of these for some reason. My Uncle had a red 61 Impala SS convertible. In about 1970, he gave 300 bucks for it, someone had blown the 348 up in it and he put a 327 in it with a 4 speed. He sold it in about 1974 for $300 it needed a new convertible top and he didn't have the money to get one put on it.

Sweet ride! Normally I do not like some of the upgrades on this car, but they are tastefully done - I don't like the wheels on most cars, but for some reason the wheels actually add pop and work with the design. In fact, these wheels do what the insidious and dead common in vogue black wheels cannot do - add character to a car. Black wheels make it look like the car has four black holes on the side and the car is suspended in air. This car has the wheels to bring total integrity to the design - a cohesion of fluidity. You really spoil us, Lou! This is a fantastic car from every angle and from every burble of the exhaust.
Hi ultraviolet tp, Happy to read you enjoy this "Sweet ride!" :-) Glad to read you enjoy the upgrades, and I agree "tastefully done". My pleasure spoiling you. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
That is a BUBBLE TOP They made a few bel airs and impala with the BUBBLE TOP IN 1962 Then switched over to the hard TOP that mimics a convertible top. I like tour videos lou and I will continue to share some of my knowledge about cars.
Beautiful car! The mods do not offend me in the least-they’re all for enhanced enjoyment and usability. Lou, I think you did get a bit carried away looking at the brochures! 😂
I love the 61 Impala Sports Coupe. Absolutely beautiful car. I think I've seen a grand total of one of these Sports Coupes rolling down the road. We had the 4 door sedan with a 283. That was a nice car too, but boy the Sports Coupe is just beautiful. Thanks Lou. Gorgeous.
@@loucostabile Oh sorry Lou. Just saw your reply. Similar. Another nice one. Ours was more of a beige color. Yep, the dash looked just like the one in the second video. I remember my Dad would let me go out and start the car to warm it up on cold winter days in Illinois. I'd slightly rev the engine and hear that 283 characteristic whir. It brings back good memories of those old Chevies. I had a 64 BelAir years later. Thanks again for making these videos so us car nerds can enjoy these cars too. : )

Yep, I enjoyed driving a 1961 Impala Super Sport for over 20 years, but Chevrolet only built 625 of them. 200 were sold to Racers by dealers with the '409'/4-speed for the sole purpose of making the new '409' engine NASCAR legal to race in 1961. The '409' engine was otherwise not available until the 1962 model year when the '409' and the Impala Super Sport were officially introduced to the public in the October 1961 New Car Showing of the 1962 models. The remaining 425 1961 Impala SS cars were sold across the dealership floor to the public in the spring of 1961 with the '348' engine backed by either a 4-speed manual or a Powerglide. ANY surviving 1961 Impala SS is extremely rare & valuable today!
I love the '61 - a skillful restyling after the '60 models. The whole GM line was great for that year. Remember the days when you could see the end of the front fender? Then came aerodynamics.
To Me That Is The Best Roof GM Put On Their 61 Cars They Also Had This Roof On The Buick , Olds , & Pontiac. Last Year For The Wide White Wall Tires , 62 Were Skinny White Walls. There Were No Bucket Seats Until 62 SS. Love The Styling LOU.
And as a side note, Chevy also kept the Bubble Top Spots Coupe as a holdover for the 1962 BelAir models. Quite rare & desirable, especially for the drag strip crowd that favored the lighter Biscayne & BelAir models.
@@loucostabile hi Lou, been watching your channel for a while now,I am currently shopping for my 130th car, not as impressive as it sounds, I was a car show judge at the Southbury car show 3 years straight in the Mustang class, also back from 2000 to 2012 I filmed cruise night on public access, yes so many stories I have and I like the way you do your filming. Thanx I’ll say the memories because I owned a 61, not getting into exotics high dollar or rare but if I was loaded I would own a 61 impala, a 65 Galaxie and an Avanti here’s to your continued success
Beautiful Impala! I wish all power windows worked as fast as these do! Lou - my parents used to have a '62 Anniversary Gold 2 Dr Hardtop Impala. Can you find one of them to video? I remember they had special striped seats in them
In 61' the interstate highway system was nothing like it is now. Dinah Shore was Chevy's spokesperson and would be singing See the USA in a Chevrolet on Sunday night TV commercials.
Not sure which year, but in the early '60's Chevrolet had a Dealer Option Air Horn that would play the intro notes of "See the USA in your Chevrolet!" One of those in a NOS box would be worth a fortune today!
Thanks for making and sharing this video!! Love the "bubble-top" roofline on these cars = something we will never see again due to roll over and safety standards that must be met today. I love the look from the rear quarter panel showing the roofline!!
The mighty 348-V8 sounds great! This car is almost a Super Sport, introduced in 1961 as the SS on the Impala series only. I fondly recall seeing these cars new at the last GM Motorama in Los Angeles in 1961. I really like the design of the car, and the steering wheel, and remember the hound's tooth fabric upholstery. These look really great in red and metallic blue, and turquoise. I don't mind the aftermarket chrome wheels, but it looks great with the original wheels and wheel covers.
Hi Donald, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds of this V8 :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of the 1961 GM Motorama. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
You are right. So rare to see a 1961 Chevy , I always thought that the 61 was much better looking than the 62 models that were much more squared off. I owned a 1960 Impala and I would say both the 59 and 60 Chevy models had a much better looking dash .

Hi ultraviolet tp, Happy to read you enjoy this "Sweet ride!" :-) Glad to read you enjoy the upgrades, and I agree "tastefully done". My pleasure spoiling you. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
GREAT 🤗 MODS MIKE 😎💚💚💚
Happy to read you enjoy the modifications on this car Budget Audiophile Life-long
Exceptionally beautiful car, probably a special order from the factory!
High praise.
Gorgeous car 😊
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
That is a BUBBLE TOP They made a few bel airs and impala with the BUBBLE TOP IN 1962 Then switched over to the hard TOP that mimics a convertible top. I like tour videos lou and I will continue to share some of my knowledge about cars.
Hi Tony, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Lou
The bubbletop was on Belairs only in '62 , not available on a Impala .In '61 you could get both the Impala and Belair with the bubbletop .
Beautiful car! The mods do not offend me in the least-they’re all for enhanced enjoyment and usability.
Lou, I think you did get a bit carried away looking at the brochures! 😂
Hi Mike, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car. Thanks for sharing thoughts on the brochure portion :-) Lou
I love the 61 Impala Sports Coupe. Absolutely beautiful car. I think I've seen a grand total of one of these Sports Coupes rolling down the road. We had the 4 door sedan with a 283. That was a nice car too, but boy the Sports Coupe is just beautiful. Thanks Lou. Gorgeous.
Hi The Lorax, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Was your 4 Door like this one? Lou th-cam.com/video/O5w-0FWRGSk/w-d-xo.html
Seeing the USA in your Chevrolet! Perfect car,day and story.
Thank you from a guy near 70 in Smyrna Delaware

Hi Сергій, Happy to read "Great car! Stylish!" :-) You're welcome, Lou
The American car at its best, simple and sleek.
NICE!
Belleza en la sencillez
You're not kidding!
The "Bubble Tops" are among my favorite full sized Chevys.
Happy to read this is a favorite of yours Mark G. :-)
First year of the Super Sport Lou!
Thank you for sharing Popie!
Wow! Just gorgeous!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
This is one of my favorite car's 😍
NICE!
I love the '61 - a skillful restyling after the '60 models. The whole GM line was great for that year. Remember the days when you could see the end of the front fender? Then came aerodynamics.
Hi Jay, Happy to read "I love the '61" :-) Lou
Another GR8
Video, Lou…
ThankYou CB
Happy to read you enjoy this video. You're welcome Emmy.
THIS is automobile design at its finest. late 50s to 70s, with only some exceptions in the 80s and 90s, but late 50s to late 70s is the melon meat.
High praise for the design of this car :-)
To Me That Is The Best Roof GM Put On Their 61 Cars They Also Had This Roof On The Buick , Olds , & Pontiac. Last Year For The Wide White Wall Tires , 62 Were Skinny White Walls. There Were No Bucket Seats Until 62 SS. Love The Styling LOU.
Hi James, Thanks for sharing, and happy to read you enjoy the styling of this car :-) Lou
And as a side note, Chevy also kept the Bubble Top Spots Coupe as a holdover for the 1962 BelAir models. Quite rare & desirable, especially for the drag strip crowd that favored the lighter Biscayne & BelAir models.
@@dalewalker4614 Yes I Just Love The 62 Bubble Top Belair It Happens To Be My Dream Car. Fawn Would Be The Color For Me + I Am Also A Biscayne Guy.
She is one sharp 348 Impala ❤
:-)
Lou if only..... My life would be complete.
popeye.oliveoil....hope you're behind the wheel of the right one for you soon.
I just love 61 Chevrolet, I owned one and would like to say I had a second one
Hi Ron, Hope you "Chase" down another one soon, Lou
@@loucostabile hi Lou, been watching your channel for a while now,I am currently shopping for my 130th car, not as impressive as it sounds, I was a car show judge at the Southbury car show 3 years straight in the Mustang class, also back from 2000 to 2012 I filmed cruise night on public access, yes so many stories I have and I like the way you do your filming. Thanx I’ll say the memories because I owned a 61, not getting into exotics high dollar or rare but if I was loaded I would own a 61 impala, a 65 Galaxie and an Avanti here’s to your continued success
The whole roof is thin. The pillars and the top.
Looks like a spaceship.
I can see why you'd say that.
In 1961 they actually made an impala 2 door post car. The only year for that.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I am a Ford guy, but what a car!!!
:-)
Very cool!
:-)
Nice!!!!
:-)
I love the 1961 Chevys ❤
NICE!
Beautiful Impala! I wish all power windows worked as fast as these do! Lou - my parents used to have a '62 Anniversary Gold 2 Dr Hardtop Impala. Can you find one of them to video? I remember they had special striped seats in them
Hi Steve, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Parents car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Super nice 5 stars
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-)
MAAAAN! THAT IS SUPER AWESOME!
NICE!
What a sweet '61!
:-)
The big block emblem has a message to other cars..Warning I'm Fast. ! 🏁🏁🏁🏁
Just the way it should be :-)
Chevys and Fords were the most popular cars back then.
Thank you for sharing.
61 Impala best looking Chevy of them all!
High praise.
They actually made a few Super Sport Impalas that year.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
My uncle had a new 57' BelAir, 60' and 63' Impala.
Hi Nicky, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Back then many people were adding a custom 2nd dummy swept antenna on the other side of the trunk.
Balanced out the look.
It was a dealer option for several years of full-size Chevys. They really look classy!
In 61' the interstate highway system was nothing like it is now. Dinah Shore was Chevy's spokesperson and would be singing See the USA in a Chevrolet on Sunday night TV commercials.
Nice :-)
Not sure which year, but in the early '60's Chevrolet had a Dealer Option Air Horn that would play the intro notes of "See the USA in your Chevrolet!" One of those in a NOS box would be worth a fortune today!
My favorite year for Impala. The styling was so much better than later years
Happy to read "My favorite year for Impala." :-) Nice!
Thanks for making and sharing this video!! Love the "bubble-top" roofline on these cars = something we will never see again due to roll over and safety standards that must be met today. I love the look from the rear quarter panel showing the roofline!!
You're welcome mrgrandprix fourspeed :-) Thank you for sharing the camera angles you enjoy.
Congratulations Mike, cool to see your ride on this channel.
Happy to share this car on the Channel with you Anthony :-)
You are right.
So rare to see a 1961 Chevy , I always thought that the 61 was much better looking than the 62 models that were much more squared off.
I owned a 1960 Impala and I would say both the 59 and 60 Chevy models had a much better looking dash .
Hi Bextar636, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Happy to read you had a fun 1960 Impala :-) NICE! Lou
Seems like Chevrolet could do no wrong in the early 1960s!
Glad to read you enjoy the designs of the 1960's Chevrolets :-)
