The car's Owner is Mike Powles. Mike’s had this car since 2017. Mike shares he enjoys this body style and started looking for one. This car has some modifications however it looks like it came right off the showroom floor.

Hi, If you like this video, please click on SUPER THANKS ❤ with the $ in the middle which is the SUPER THANKS button under the video. Thank you! Lou
I was five years old when my dad traded in his 1957 yellow Bel Air standard for a 1961 Impala sport coupe automatic. He had the six cylinder version in white with blue trim and blue interior. We were Chevy fans in the 1950's, 60's, and 70's. I'm 67 years old now. Great memories on great classic cars times. Thanks for the video and ride on the magnificent 1961 Chevrolet Impala.
Hi Juan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Juan you’re a Lucky guy! My old man preferred dowdy, cheap Ford’s! Had a ‘59 Galaxie which wasn’t too bad, but traded it in on a refrigerator white ‘65 Falcon. My mom HATED that car!
Tks for sharing. My 61 was a white convertible with red inside. I bought it in 65
What a beautiful 61 Impala ! The interior color combined with the cream color is perfect. Thanks for sharing Mike's 61 Impala Lou .
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome Michael.
I owned a '61 Biscayne that I took to college in the early 70's. Mine was as stripper as they came, even down to a recirc heater instead of fresh air. But what a great car! I loved it for its simplicity, for its good looks, and for its reliability. This Impala has those qualities with just a much higher level of furnishings. It's amazing how fresh these '61 models looked when introduced right after the obese '59-60 models, which were also attractive. You could keep the dog dish speakers on the inside here, but I really like the neat and trim and discreet add-on a/c. Thanks so much for picking this one!
Hi LoveIsAll, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Nicely upgraded.
:-)
The window treat at the end was cats meow very nice lines on the 61 I've always enjoyed seeing one
Hi Larry, Happy to read you like the window treat :-) Lou
1961 Chevrolet Impala is a beautiful looking car, I remember, when I was a kid in early 1960's, seeing them around and it was brand spanking new! Thank you for sharing it, Lou!
Happy to read you remember the 1961 Chevrolet :-) You're welcome ACatal2!
What a perfect combination of curves, color, and chrome! All of the upgrades are tastefully done and it looks like a perfect cruiser for any occasion. Thanks for finding and sharing Mr. Powles and his '61 Bubble Top with us, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Shame about the non stock wheels which just don't match up to the stock 61 wheels which suit the car far better IMHO!
I love the way it looks stock, with the exception of the wheels! The windows are awesome!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
My brother had a white '61 bubble top with a 283 so smooth that many times the ignition key got turned with the engine already running. Best visibility of any car I've ever been in. One of the best Impalas ever.
Hi Tom, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Brothers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

I think the best Impala year! Not just because i had one

Hi sly 23, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
No necesariamente ,el mío tenía un 283
The ‘ 61 seats always look nicely tailored, soft and comfortable. Love that smooth color, a big, beautiful banana crème! And my birth year. ❤

Thanks for the video and a laugh or two Lou 👍👍😎✌️
Hi Pat, Happy to read you and this car have the same birth year :-) Glad to read you enjoy the color of this car. My pleasure sharing the video and laughs with you, Lou
Gorgeous automobile. Always loved the styling of the 61, especially the rear end/taillights. You don't see many around
Hi James, Happy to read you enjoy this "Gorgeous automobile" :-) Lou
Yes, not many 1961 models are seen today……even in Florida. A wonderful example of styling in this era. The exhaust sound is mellow. Corvette wheel trim would look great with the crossed flags. I did have a View Master and reels when I was a younger kid than now. Thank you Lou.
Hi Steven. Happy to share this rarely seen today Chevy with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Steven, the 1961 Impala Super Sport (most people don't know they even existed) featured 1961 Full Wheel Covers with 1962 SS Spinners attached. Very stylish and quite reminiscent of the Corvette wheel trim.
🙋♂️THANKS LOU AND MIKE,FOR SHARING THIS BUBBLE TOP 😎❤️IT ,WITH THE PIN STRIPES 💚💚💚

To Me That Is The Best Roof GM Put On Their 61 Cars They Also Had This Roof On The Buick , Olds , & Pontiac. Last Year For The Wide White Wall Tires , 62 Were Skinny White Walls. There Were No Bucket Seats Until 62 SS. Love The Styling LOU.
Hi James, Thanks for sharing, and happy to read you enjoy the styling of this car :-) Lou
And as a side note, Chevy also kept the Bubble Top Spots Coupe as a holdover for the 1962 BelAir models. Quite rare & desirable, especially for the drag strip crowd that favored the lighter Biscayne & BelAir models.

You're not kidding!
I LOVE Resto-Mods, and this sweet Impala is among the best of the best! I had the pleasure of owning a 1961 Impala Super Sport for over 20 years and miss it dearly. Nothing like the sound of that throaty '348' engine breathing through a 4-barrel carb and oversized dual exhausts. Thank you Lou and Mike for the memories! ~Dale Walker (Founder of the "National Impala Association" back in the day!) ❤😎

Beautiful 1961 Chevrolet Impala. 😊
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Lou, you've knocked it out of the park once again! This is my favorite Chevy outside of the Corvette. The "W" heads are also known as "Porcupine" heads. The 348 is the beginning of the BIG blocks from Chevrolet. Ah the good old days! You'll never see these kinds of cars being made again. Sadly we've lost the real American ingenuity to foreign makes. But at least you can go back in time with these kinds of cars. Wonderful car. Keep em coming😅😅👍👍💯
Hi Paul, Happy to read "This is my favorite Chevy outside of the Corvette" :-) Good news! The cars we enjoy from yesteryear are all right one this Channel for us to enjoy again and again and again :-) Lou

First year of the Super Sport Lou!
Thank you for sharing Popie!
Yep, I enjoyed driving a 1961 Impala Super Sport for over 20 years, but Chevrolet only built 625 of them. 200 were sold to Racers by dealers with the '409'/4-speed for the sole purpose of making the new '409' engine NASCAR legal to race in 1961. The '409' engine was otherwise not available until the 1962 model year when the '409' and the Impala Super Sport were officially introduced to the public in the October 1961 New Car Showing of the 1962 models. The remaining 425 1961 Impala SS cars were sold across the dealership floor to the public in the spring of 1961 with the '348' engine backed by either a 4-speed manual or a Powerglide. ANY surviving 1961 Impala SS is extremely rare & valuable today!
61 is my favorite year of the Impala great looking car 😊

I love the 61 Impala Sports Coupe. Absolutely beautiful car. I think I've seen a grand total of one of these Sports Coupes rolling down the road. We had the 4 door sedan with a 283. That was a nice car too, but boy the Sports Coupe is just beautiful. Thanks Lou. Gorgeous.

Thanx I’ll say the memories because I owned a 61, not getting into exotics high dollar or rare but if I was loaded I would own a 61 impala, a 65 Galaxie and an Avanti here’s to your continued success
Wow! Just gorgeous!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Bill M is the only one to comment on the fact that this car no longer has the 2 Speed Power Glide Transmission in it. Bill thinks that it has a 3 Speed Auto Trans, but Bill did not pick up on that after the 1, 2, 3 it has an O around the D. That means that this car has an Overdrive Automatic Transmission in it. Because this car has a 348 in it, my thinking is that it has a 700R4 in it or it could have the Electronic Version the 4L60E or the Electronic Version of the 400 with Overdrive the 4L80E. With an Overdrive Transmission this car should get 19 -21 MPG...if you lay off the gas pedal. GREAT CAR Lou!!! THANK-YOU!!!
Hi Bob, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. You're welcome, Lou

The big block emblem has a message to other cars..Warning I'm Fast. ! 🏁🏁🏁🏁
Just the way it should be :-)
Sweet ride! Normally I do not like some of the upgrades on this car, but they are tastefully done - I don't like the wheels on most cars, but for some reason the wheels actually add pop and work with the design. In fact, these wheels do what the insidious and dead common in vogue black wheels cannot do - add character to a car. Black wheels make it look like the car has four black holes on the side and the car is suspended in air. This car has the wheels to bring total integrity to the design - a cohesion of fluidity.
You really spoil us, Lou! This is a fantastic car from every angle and from every burble of the exhaust.
Hi ultraviolet tp, Happy to read you enjoy this "Sweet ride!" :-) Glad to read you enjoy the upgrades, and I agree "tastefully done". My pleasure spoiling you. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou

Beautiful 61 Impala Lou. You don't see many of these for some reason. My Uncle had a red 61 Impala SS convertible. In about 1970, he gave 300 bucks for it, someone had blown the 348 up in it and he put a 327 in it with a 4 speed. He sold it in about 1974 for $300 it needed a new convertible top and he didn't have the money to get one put on it.

The bubbletop was on Belairs only in '62 , not available on a Impala .In '61 you could get both the Impala and Belair with the bubbletop .
Nice car I love it, when I was 16 in 1969 I raced a 59 ? Ford hardtop convertible @ Colonial Beach Dragway the only time I ever raced @ a dragstrip & won a trophy & still have it, I was driving a 1961 2door sedan Chevrolet, I don't remember the trim package, maybe biscayne, it had a 327 hopped up a bit with 3 speed stick in the floor, @ the time my dad had a used car lot & junk yard, would love to have some of those old cars today, again the bubble top 61 , " I call it " is a beautiful car !!!! In 61' the interstate highway system was nothing like it is now. Dinah Shore was Chevy's spokesperson and would be singing See the USA in a Chevrolet on Sunday night TV commercials.
Nice :-)
Not sure which year, but in the early '60's Chevrolet had a Dealer Option Air Horn that would play the intro notes of "See the USA in your Chevrolet!" One of those in a NOS box would be worth a fortune today!

Super!

In 61' The Super Sport was just a trim package, in 62' or 63' it became strictly a Performance option.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Sorry, but that is simply not true. The new '409' and the Super Sport options were officially introduced for public purchase in the 1962 model year and the '409' was retired mid-year 1965, replaced by the new '396' Big Block. In 1961 Chevrolet was getting their butts kicked by Ford in early-season NASCAR racing. Chevrolet responded by building selling 200 1961 Impala Super Sports to racers, equipped with the yet to be released '409' engine, backed by a T-10 4-speed trans & a Positraction rear end to become NASCAR legal to race & cleaned up on Ford for the rest of the season! Chevy also produced an additional 425 1961 Impala Super Sports with the '348' W-Block and choice of 4-speed manual or Powerglide transmissions that were sold to the public after a single advertisement was placed in Motor Trend magazine. I owned one of the '348' Powerglide cars for over 20 years. To say that the 1961 Super Sport was "just a trim package, and NOT a performance option" is absolutely not true. They were a Ninja Powerhouse in their day!
@@dalewalker4614 In the beginning you could have ordered a Super Sport with a 6 cyl. Eng. as it was just a trim package.
I had this bubbletop here in Finland. It was red with white top.Car was from Florida with 235 six and powerglide.
Happy to read you had a fun car too :-)
And its bloody expensive now!
And to mention car is still doing fine we take care of these beauties
Interesting, I've never seen a two-tone BubbleTop.... The Impala had the accent strip painted in a complimentary color, but I'm not sure where the body color would change between the body and the roof as a two-tone. Any photos you could provide?
I was relieved when you finally asked how long he'd had the car. I wish you would have asked him how and where he found it. Was he looking for this particular body style with the 348 motor. Also what upgrades has he done to the car since he purchased it. He mentioned the steering and I noticed it had a three speed automatic. Chevrolets only had a two speed until 1965 when a three speed was introduced. I noticed the pin striping. Did the car have them when he bought it?
I guess my take on what a "Car Story" should include is different from yours. I just find myself wanting more information.
Hi Bill, .....all good questions, Lou
Ah yes the 1961 Chevrolet , the last year for a Nomad wagon , and the only year for a two door post Impala . Also the last year of the utility sedan with no rear seat . Sport Coupe was the official designation for a two door hardtop , which came about in 1953 . Before that the Belair was only available as a hardtop . Not even a '50-'52 convertible was a Belair .
Hi Bob, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this TH-cam Channel, Lou
Agreed, but 1961 was the end of the NOMAD nameplate, while the "REAL" Nomad 2-door Hardtop Wagon was only produced from 1955 to 1957. Chevy kept the Nomad nameplate to squeeze all the value they could out of it until no one was buying it any longer. For several model years also produce full-sized 4-door hardtops, officially designated as the "Sports Sedan" if I remember correctly..... I'm a classic too, but my brain is getting old and has a lot of mileage on it. 😅😂🤣
@@dalewalker4614 In case you didn't know GM dropped the 55-57 Nomad due to poor sales that kept getting worse . That sexy looking body came with a piece , the rear window and tailgate seals leaked terribly , you won't find an unrestored car with a good rear floor . Except for the dog house and floor pan , none of the sheet metal interchanges with any other Chevy . Which drove up the cost of production . The two door body is a pain to get into and out of the back seat , people wanted the convenience of a four door wagon . They sold less than 22,000 first gen Nomads , they sold over 25,000 of the '58 model Nomad , plus the parts fit other new Chevies . It was a win - win situation . I've owned both a '56 and a '57 Nomad , they look nice but are a P.I.T.A. to live with .
