  • How to protect yourself in a critical situation? Knowing some useful pieces of advice for different life situations can be really helpful!
There is hardly anyone who’d want to find themselves in a dark alley with a strange person chasing them or get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. What would you do if the person chasing you grabbed you by force and took you to their car? What if you don’t have a spare tire and the “nearest” service station is actually many miles away?
    TIMESTAMPS:

Stay focused during a plane’s takeoff and landing 3:24

    SUMMARY:
    - If you are being pushed into a car, try to “accidentally” drop as many personal belongings as possible (but remember that it’s better to keep your cell phone with you). This could help the police find you faster.
    - If you’re in an elevator with a criminal, press the buttons for every floor. This will give you a chance to run away or signal someone. It can also baffle the criminal - and make you look like a lunatic.
    - Shake any drink, and pour it into a glass. If the bubbles spread to the sides, the weather will be good for the next 12 hours.
    - If you suddenly get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, make small holes in the sides of the tire, and stuff it with grass or thatch.
    - Stay attentive during the first 3 minutes of takeoff and the last 3 minutes of landing. Don’t get distracted! According to statistics, 61% of all accidents in the air occur in these time periods.
    - If your kitchen stove or the oil in your frying pan catches fire, do not try to extinguish them with water. Why? Water repels grease and oil, and the fire can spread when you splatter it with water. Instead, pour a box of baking soda onto the burning area.
    - Panic is one of the main factors that decrease your chances of survival in a dangerous situation. Therefore, it’s important to stay calm and follow simple actions that will help you stabilize yourself.
    - You can use your cell phone or camera as a light reflector when crossing a poorly lit road in the dark. It will help drivers see you on the road and react in time.
    - To remove eye tension, take a fabric pouch containing powdered camphor crystals or a bottle of camphor oil with you. When you feel tired, bring the pouch or bottle close to your nose, and take a deep breath.
    - If you are being threatened, act like a hysterical victim: cry, sniff, blow, or wipe your nose (even on your sleeve).
    - Water may be unsafe to use after a natural disaster like a hurricane, blizzard, or earthquake. Purify your tap water with bleach while you wait for the local authorities to announce that the water is safe to use.

For the elevator tip- (I’m an elevator mechanic) most newer elevators have what’s called an “anti nuisance” call feature that will release more than 3-4 calls if you press all the buttons at once.
There’s a couple of other options:
An emergency phone button is located towards the bottom on the button panel that you can press for help while in the elevator. This line usually connects directly to building security. On older units there may be a small door at the bottom of the panel with a phone inside.
There’s also an emergency alarm button that will ring a pretty loud bell or alarm signal.
Look for these things next time you ride an elevator 😉

    • @whatyousaidbud
      @whatyousaidbud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

cool, I'll definitely be looking for that next time I'm in one, is there an access hatch on the top of all elevators or is that something that's only in the movies?

I got trapped in my apartment very old & very small warm elevator, I didn't have my cell on me; so I had to hold the EMERGENCY BUTTON for someone to come & they called 911; but I was stuck in it for 45-minutes. Now I do not ride in it. When I do shopping, I put a cart in the elevator & send it up to my floor I live on & run up the stairs. I now get extra exercise daily; but have a new phobia. Make sure to have a cell on you when riding an elevator & be calm when an emergency happens in one.

I reckon I can build that. There is a hatch on the top of every elevator, but it is always locked tight from outside, so you can forget about using the hatch. However, all elevator doors are not locked. The inner doors can be forced opened with hands. The outdoor doors have a visible lever which can be easily pulled to open from inside. However, this is very dangerous to use because if when you are climbing out suddenly the elevator move, you are dead. Your best option is still to call for help and wait. Only In the most emergency situation when your life in threatened inside the elevator, you can use this as the last method to escape.

The cough, snot, splutter approach with potential attackers also works because people have a fear of germs.
Personally, I favour the odd response to direct threats. Growling is a good one when someone is picking a fight, as is "The doctors gave me a letter, I'm allowed out!". Singing Tiptoe Through the Tulips.
Remember, attackers expect things to go according to their script. Tip their psychological balance away from that and you have regained some control. Then do something equally odd, but from a completely different angle.

@Cheryl I highly doubt that, as he attacked me first, with intent to cause harm should I not comply. I merely turned the tables on him, and he got scared because things didn't go according to plan.
It should ALSO be noted that I am of a petite stature (140lbs or less at average height), and by no means able to defend myself unarmed from someone of average strength. This means that I would be forced to use a weapon to defend my own well being, against someone who would readily commit a violent crime against me. Just to put things a bit more into perspective: I can BARELY lift my 80lb motorized bicycle, let alone lifting it over my shoulders. I do hope THAT gives you enough information to classify me as a weakling, and understand that I am willing to do whatever it takes to prevent harm to myself or my property.
I also take it you would be the one to simply comply, call the police afterwards, and still have to replace your ID, SSN, credit cards, cash, and whatever else you had in your purse, like a "good little citizen."

A good tip for when you're crying (it helps me) is to talk to yourself. Talk to yourself. Say things like "It's gonna be okay" or "We can get through this" or anything else. Talking to yourself helps calm you down. A gentle voice is always something good to hear. Now I'm sure this tip won't help everyone, and it takes a moment for it to work, (Cause when you start crying it's almost impossible to stop in 2 seconds) but it works for me so I'm sure it'll work for *some* other people. I hope this helps you at some point in your life!!

If you are a kid and a possible child predator is chassing you, run to the nearest house’s door while screaming mom. The predator will most likely leave.
Same situation but you can also run to a pedestrian saying things like « mom this man is following me » or « dad that personé is following me. If she or he is a parent, they will most likely reconise what you are doing and go à long with it. The child predator will most likely leave.

Coming from a firefighter, just keep a small ABC fire extinguisher in your home for grease fires. Baking soda or flour works too but you do need a lot of it, but it’s less messy than an extinguisher. If the fire was contained to the pan you don’t need to call 911. Obviously if you’re hurt or it spread to the walls, floors, etc. and you need to use your insurance, then call.

I know I am late BUT if about to be taken by force or being threatened, do something that is unexpected. Some examples are if you are being followed, have a violent argument with yourself, or change up your schedule. If you are being threatened into a car with a gun say something that the attacker won’t expect. But If you do find yourself in a trunk, there is always a emergency opener in cars that were made in the 2000s. Finally if you are out and about and uncertain, carry a pointy object like a pen or car keys in your hand so if someone dose attack jab the object into their throat.

Not everyone might have baking soda in the house as some people do not bake often or not at all. So in case it is not available, salt can help put out the fire, it takes much longer to do so, but at least that is another option in case there is no baking soda.

My body language let him know i saw him, he did not have the element of surprise, and i wasnt going down with out a fight. He turned on his heel and went straight back where he came from... Um...Why give advice that involves using something up under a comment that suggest doing something not only safer, but also that does not waste anything?!
Fire cannot burn without oxygen, so covering it with ANYTHING that won't burn will extinguish it. In fact, that's how snow fire extinguishers...or sand (like rolling on the sand if you're on fire) work too. That's how baking soda/flour is meant to work too. Just throw ANYTHING that won't burn and fire goes out...but if you're in a kitchen, you're going to have a perfectly inflammable lid...so...um...use it?!
Also, there's a ridiculous claim in the video. Water repels oil and that's why you doing use water to extinguish burning oil?! Yeah, and you can cut magnet in half and have an all-south and all-north halves...Aka. no, you'll get two magnets with south and north each and water does not repel oil. Water does not mix with oil which is also less dense than it so it floats.
However burning oil achieves very high temperatures. So high that small amounts of water will instantly turn to gas. Liquid instantly turning to gas causes an explosion, and the last thing you want to do is cause explosions inside a burning liquid that will throw it all around the kitchen...and on you. Sure. If you spill several hundredths liters of water at once you're going to extinguish the oil most likely (no oxygen, remember?!), but why flood your kitchen with a ton of water if you can just cover it with a lid?!

Now, you are probably standing in front of the chaser, continue staring them blankly in the eyes, expressionless and just stand there.
If I would have been chasing someone, I would be scared shitless if the opponent did as written above.

To check if someone is following look in a shop window for who is behind you.
If you're a woman walking at night tuck long hair inside your coat. You'll be less noticeable and it's less easy to grab.
If you need to open a can of food with no can opener rub the top of the can on concrete till the rim wears away. The top will come off in less than two minutes.
If you're in water use a wet piece of clothing to trap air and use it as a float.

Why don't just get a ''FIX A FLAT'' spray for around $5.00 dollars and spend less than ten minutes applying it to the tire, and if the hole it's not too big you don't have to throw the tire away

    • @kevinalt8437
      @kevinalt8437 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

because most tire shops wont fix the tire if you use that stuff in it, cause its a huge mess to clean up, and they will throw the tire away anyway, so save some money and use grass

    • @TheDustyShredder
      @TheDustyShredder 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@kevinalt8437 except cutting the hole for the grass creates even MORE of a hole, and in the sidewall no less. This severely compromises the tire and you can't keep it anyways.
Better to just use the easier Fix-A-Flat method and buy the new tire.
OR, call for roadside assistance and get towed to the nearest tire shop where they can find the hole and plug it.

I hope it can help someone else also as it help me from possibly a group of thief that got caught in an aggravated home invade that happened in the apartments block near mine!

A life hack that can save your life. If a hurricane, storm is where your at and electricity isn’t available for you to track the latest weather news. Try to count in seconds starting when you hear a flash of lighting or white light. Then, STOP if you hear any thunder booms. Lastly, repeat one more time.
If the 2nd attempt to count in between the flash of lightning and thunder is more longer than the first. The storm is moving away from you. If the 2nd attempt is shorter than the first, the storm is coming at your direction.
How this is possible-> Speed of light is faster than speed of sound so obviously you’ll see the flash of light before the sound. Counting between these several times help you mark how close or which direction the storm is heading(whether it’s heading towards you or way from you). This method helps you coordinate where the storm is going; for better reliable evidence. Try to do this several times so you have more knowledge of the storm.

Being alert and attentive at these times means you'll be more likely to know to be ready if you suddenly need to evacuate or assume a brace position like in the event of an overrun. Plus it's good to play attention to the safety demonstration at take off.
