Too bad you didn't take a little time up in the bog where the boardwalks were to look for Happy Face Spiders. They're very small and very unique. Ka'ala is one of the few places where they are found in Hawaii. (If you're not familiar with them, do a little research on them to understand where the name comes from.) If I'm not mistaken, they're not found outside of Hawaii. I used to work for Moanalua Gardens Foundation and we (the staff) did an excursion up there (by vehicles with permission) to explore and experience some of the endemic plant and animal species of Hawaii that are up there. It's a wonderful place on the island to experience!🤙
@@murphytravelsofficial If you ever do that hike again, you'll know. Tip: check on the underside of the leaves along the bog trail, especially leaves with spider webbing on them
Cool video man. Thank you. I'm moving back to Oahu in April so I've been watching a lot of hiking videos. This is the first I've seen of this hike. So now it's on my list for sure. Mahalo 🤙🏼
@@murphytravelsofficial thanks! Yeah I did a lot of them back in 2011-2014 when I lived there but there are plenty I haven't done. I was deployed literally half the time I lived there so I'm happy to have more time this go-around to explore and photograph. It's an amazing place. 🤙🏼
Check out the description for more info on this hike. 🙂
Beautiful

Thanks for the info! I just read a little about Happy Face Spiders, and it looks like it would have been really neat to see some up there. 🙂

What month did you do film this? Looks like pretty good conditions to avoid mud
It was filmed in August. Yeah, it had really good condition that day. 🙂
How long takes round trip? Thank you 🙏🏻
It's 7.1 miles round trip with about 3.4K elevation gain, so it'll depend on how fast you hike.
"Kahala?"
Ka'ala.
Yeah haha, I noticed I pronounced it wrong when I was editing it. 🤦
*Ka'ala, not Kahala haha. Lovely video!
