Turkey is no longer a cheap holiday destination especially in the touristic areas. Actually Gumbet/Bodrum was the first place we went to 40 years ago and have travelled extensively throughout Turkey ever since. Prices have increased massively, but get away from the touristic places & it can be still good value. Years ago you couldn't walk past a shop without been offered tea etc, that does not happen now. Turks are generally friendly & hospitable and have a sense of humour like the British at its very best. I have noticed in recent years in the touristic areas that some can be cocky, rude, sarcastic and abuse their hospitality, mainly those working in shops. It's a shame but it does happen.
There is crazy inflation in Turkey now. The locals are not happy with what's happening. You want value for money when you go on holiday and Turkey used to be that. There is a huge difference from last year. You have to be very careful how you spend and use your money. I would advise to pay in TL. Marmaris a bottle of beer was 150TL where as last year it was 90 and in the back streets 50/60. The food prices are now double and more. Excursions are also expensive and have crazy rates. For example a bottle of beer on a boat trip is 200TL in the local market it's 75TL and in bars it's 150TL. Don t buy cocktails as they are watered down and they don't put in what it says and you are paying 10 for one. Prices are like the UK if not more. Again be wary of how you spend
It's a no brainer. Only stay in all-inclusive hotel. Only use local transport. (Dolmus) bus. Never drink or eat on the main strip. Try and holiday in April or September. Just booked a 5 star hotel in Alanya. May 2025. 11 nights .flight's. Transfer. £1.500 .2 people.
@adhdnatedog still nice weather. Get some really cheap deals. September and October. Quick tip. Google icelolly holidays. Click on it. Search your holiday destination and dates. It will give you a list of all the holiday companies. Giving you the cheapest option.
Since the prices have gone sky high i wont be going back to Turkey, only went because it was cheap there is much nicer places to go for the same price 😊
Don't eat or drink in Dalaman airport - I was charged €72 for two small beers and two salad baps. I didn't get the bill until we had finished. RIP off prices
To be fair most holiday destinations are not as cheap as they once where , I’ve been to Turkey many times and I think it’s still good value for us Brits..👍
@peterbalding1470 Yep was just a story I seen,I have actually never been myself I know a lot of people who have in the past and most really enjoyed it and it was good value for money but I have spoken to 2 or 3 people who have been this year and have commented prices have rocketed, think the prices in Greece have went up as well since covid.ps I've been to Rhodes a couple of times and didn't know or forgot it was near Turkey.
Just back this am. Prices have definitely risen, can still get good offers if you move away from tourist areas. Beer prices not too bad, spirits & wines high tax. Effes , Bomonti beers in Migros cheap! Was in Hisaronu. Eat where the Turkish eat & you'll be fine. 😊
When I first went to to Turkey many years ago before it was built up i used to a pint 20 pence a pint now more the price isn't to bad Kevin more expensive back home ❤❤
There was a story I read about 2 or 3 weeks ago that said a lot of Turkish people are actually taking their holidays in Greece because it is better value for money,in saying that me and the Mrs are in Nikiana in Lefka right now,and the prices id say are only slightly better then your prices.
Gümbet is not preference of locals, mostly tourists prefer this area, we locals prefer other neighborhoods like akyarlar, bitez, gundogan, yahsi, gümüslük, torba, turgutreis etc etc you can check different neighborhoods, cala’s of Bodrum and also there is Milas -Oren neighborhood along Bodrum shall be cheaper Just check different neighborhoods, cities, areas , prices differ and if you search enough you can find cheaper hotels, restaurants etc Enjoy your holidays
Nope but I don't go looking for the cheapest could not be bothered I go where I want to am on holiday just back from Spain quite happy paying £4 a pint

Nice one K
We usually go twice a year, next year may go only once because of the increasing inflation rate in Turkey.
It's no coincidence that there are over 18'000 Turkish Barber Shops ✂💈 open in the U.K.
