Estate lake CARPING

  • This month I'm back in England for a 48-hour session on one of the finest estates in the UK. I'm at RH Fisheries' Acton Burnell in Shropshire, fishing on the tricky bottom lake where only ten original carp reside from a 1990 stocking. I'm fortunate to land three of these to 35lb in the same day, including a few of the gorgeous scaly stockies up to 28lb. I talk about my tactical approach, my simple rigs and the mindset of being on such a tough water. There's plenty of playing action, heavy rain and even a guest appearance from a family of swans that needed some assistance in getting their babies back to the lake.

    Nice one Crowey. You never fail to amaze me. Helping that family of swans back to their natural environment is inspiring. It's not always about catching carp, it's about being at one with nature and embracing your surroundings. Don't think any of the other so called big names would have done what you did. Your an absolute credit to our sport.

    Brilliant vid again as always Simon, you make a lot of lakes look easy and I always look forward to your vids, love the decision to stay on tight lines better to have one rod buzzing with a 100% strike rate that go slack maybe get a few more bites but run the risk of losing fish to the weed, top angling as norm. Hats off to you as well you always take time to reply to these comments, to many big names and companies don’t reply and a lot of these on here are young lads the future of our great sport. Top guy

    Good Angling as always. Almost what we expect from you...no pressure ;)
    The swan situation was handled beauifully. I know several people that dont come too close to this birds, for sure not when they have baby's. If you truly without fear, you can face them almost like a dog you have never seen before. If you just imagine how dangerous they can be this will not happen, and you can get hurt. Amazing little bit of wildlife keeping you did there.

    • @SimonCrow
      @SimonCrow  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andre, I think they knew we were there to help them, they'd been stuck behind the fence for several hours and the babies just wouldn't move. I saw them on the lake yesterday and it's lovely to see them almost fully grown now (this was filmed about six weeks back). Thanks for commenting mate

    Great vids Simon .I would like to ask you why you use such a short hair ? The hair on your rig you show here is about 6 mm long . Is this so it cannot wrap round the hook on the cast ?

    • @SimonCrow
      @SimonCrow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      douglas fayers Thanks mate. Mostly because a hair is used to simply separate the hook from the bait, nothing more. A short hair ensure the hook is close to the bait so when the fish picks it up it has a better chance of hooking 👍

    • @SimonCrow
      @SimonCrow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      douglas fayers Cus I don’t see a reason to use it. It doesn’t stop tangles or protect the flanks of the fish (unless you use tiny rigs). Hitting the clip, feathering the cast, using bags/stringers etc stops tangles 👍

  • @richardbarrett7544
    @richardbarrett7544 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Simon. It looks in all your videos as if you're going against convention with keeping your rods very high, and as much line off the water as possible. I understand it in weed, but in your mind do you think it's better with tight lines to let the fish see and touch the line, rather than have back leads and tubing. I've seen you do this at all the places you fish, Spitfire the estate lake and where you caught Pinky. If you get time could you elaborate on your thoughts, rather than a quick reply I'm very interested in your thinking Simon, you sure catch a lot of fish!

    • @SimonCrow
      @SimonCrow  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Barrett morning Richard, I’ll have to do a video on this one I think as it’s a question I often get asked. There’s lots of ways of looking at it. I remember Rod Hutchinson once writing about using bright yellow line saying it works because ‘imagine walking into a dark room and bumping your head on something you didn’t see. Now walk into that dark room when you see a bright line, it’s not so much of a shock if you see it cus you just duck under it”. His example certainly gets you thinking 👍

    • @richardbarrett7544
      @richardbarrett7544 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SimonCrow I wish you would. I know its difficult doing something to order, but it's they why you do it I'm interested in. Almost vertical line is like float fishing, but only works really close in like you were at Spitfire I'd bet. At distance you're simply keeping the line off the water and tight. Very interesting Simon. Richard.
