Iâm gonna take my 20-30 books per year and be quiet lol. But Donât be hard on yourself ! Plus, some books take time to process. Like Baldwins Giovannis Room or Laymons Heavy / Long Division etc. Both books I had to reread just to fully take it all in before I could even think about moving on to any other books. Also, Life be life-ing , so take your time family !
The Secret Lives of Church Ladies was one of my faves last year too ðð Milk Blood Heat sounds so good ð oooh Punching the Air was so impactful!
Thank you for bringing the Benjamin Alire Saenz issue to my attention. I was not aware he said those things. I know people have complained about the trans woman being beaten up in AADDTU as being transphobic. When I read it I contextualized it as a reflection of the environmental and time. Iâll have to re-read it with an even more critical eye.
Yeah, I thought âConcrete Roseâ wasnât necessary, too. It felt like a cash grab, if you know what I mean ðĪ I also have to grab a copy of âSecret Love of Church Ladies.â I was blown away by it last year.
Concrete Rose did not deliver. I wonder if the voice felt off because Concrete Rose was done more so for the fans than a necessary addition to the series. On The Come Up and The Hate U Give had something to convey while Concrete Rose did not. Or at least what it had to say was not as strong as Angie Thomas can write. Idk Concrete just felt like it did not fit the trajectory of Angie Thomas writing which I felt got stronger in On The Come Up.
Does anyone else wish they could be great friends with this beautiful soul?

I enjoyed this a lot.
Youâre doing great, sweetie! I only read 9 books so far this year if that helps you feel better about your reading so far this year.
Cool
oh no! I didn't realize Saenz had made transphobic statements... :( I haven't read it yet but just recommended it on my last TBR video. shoot.
