Reading against the grain of what’s popular on Booktube/BookTok/etc. is always rewarding. Your experience reading Boys Come First sounds incredible. Happy to hear it was such an impactful event!

If I did a top-five, it'd end up being a top-25. But every year, I have one read I call "six stars of five" because there's almost always That One Book...ignites your nose hairs, crinkles your boys, gets you revved up: KIBOGO by Scholastique Mukasonga this year. Colonialist xian mythology mixes into Rwanda's Kibogo, and the results will not quit.

Great list, hard agree on Akwaeke Emezi, they're so talented and Nightcrawling is such an emotional read, loved it too... I've not seen Boys Come First before, but it sounds wonderful, thank you for recommending it.

Nightcrawling is the only one on the list I’ve read & was a perspective that enabled me to see some sh** that prompted me to widen my own. IMO this book is a portrait of one of America’s faces... one without filters and MUA work, if that makes sense.
