Whoever told you that Halloween is not that big is not lying. Its more on depending where you are in ph. But what is big here is really all souls and saints day. Almost everyone pay respect to the dead.
He is in BGC, the most westernized part of the Philippines. On route to celebrating ghostly consumerism and forgetting their ancestry. Halloween is great fun and all but it was created in part to separate us from our ancestry.
I am in Manila now from 10/15-29 Who cares if Holloween is better here then America. As a 75 year old white male the good hearts and kindness here is way more then in the USA. Fewer complainers and respect is still taught in families and school. No matter how rich or poor I have been treated well here and spent about 15 months in the Philippines on and off over the last 10 years. Every paradise is imperfect so enjoy the good and accept the bad as the price of paradise. Where ever you go make sure you have plenty of money. An American will not get a job here unless it's remote

Halloween in the Philippines has been around since I can remember. I'm 68 years old and I partially grew up here. It isn't like the states or anything like that. I also grew up there. So, I haved lived both Philippine and US Halloween experiences. The Philippine experience is just a result of US influences. As a 1st Grader in the Philippines I remember hearing both US and Philippine national anthems being played in school every morning. Both flags flew at the same flagpole. This was in the mid 1960's...well after independence day of 1946. Can you imagine a Commonwealth practice surviving 20 years after Independence day? Halloween is just another cultural practice that has been adopted from the US and will last for as long as people celebrate it.
Hollowen is for younger people obviously in public places, disco and nightclubs for they love wearing costumes etc but not celebrated seriously- for fun only. But on the others side-the serious one, you are right, it is rooted to a catholic teachings/tradition(in fact a legal public holiday-not here in new zealand grrr) where everybody is celebrating and reflecting the life of the saints-their good deeds and praying for the souls of the departed loved ones! time to gather the family together, go to the cemetery-the busiest place of the whole occasion(you can film it), light candles in remembrance. An awesome gesture of paying respect and gratitude to their rested ancestors... loved it...
Sure, but how many beautiful round butts and nice hips... IDK what it is about Asian girls that usually makes them so booty deficient but I wish science would figure it out instead of making more profitable corn and forcing it upon the world.
Halloween in the Philippines is more religious than commercialised. You would be surprised if you would go to cemeteries of the Philippines on the 1st & 2nd of November. It is like feast day in every cemetery as it is the time when we visit the graves of our loved ones and stay with them overnight sometimes. Actually, we start the day with offering mass for the souls of the dead. It is one of family occasions. We bring lots of foods, lights up candles to offer prayers for each members of the family who passed away and we deck the grave with flowers as well. It is our way of showing love to our beloved who had gone ahead of us. Those who dress up nowadays might have been influenced by movies and/or tv shows or social media. Anyways, enjoy your stay out there. Watching your channel always from England.
Actually this halloween celebration in ph is new to me even i lived in ph for 27 yrs, the all saints day and all souls day is the one i grew up with. I think they have it connected to cosplay because cosplay was a hit in the ph before. For me this is new, new means its getting more popular than before.
Hi Brian- in very big exclusive villages, you will have overflowing sweets and treats. We had miryenda, lugaw, banana q and lots and lots of both local and imported candies. Halloween is more for the rich and affluent but simple folks go to the mall SM AYALA ROBINSONS to celebrate in a less outlandish way. In some odd or strange way Pinoys make visiting the dead like a Fiesta of sorts, some with music, cards, mahjong to pass the time.😀
Since you're living in bgc, try to go to Heritage Memorial park in Taguig. People stays overnight fr.oct.31-nov.1 but my family prefers to visit 4 of our departed loved ones before end of oct. to avoid the crowd there. You'll be surprised,it's up to you to find out.😄
Hey Brian. GREAT vid. 😂😂😂 I miss Halloween in the Ph. But honestly, my memories of Ph Halloweens as a young adult were in Malate. Back in the 2000s, Malate was a nightlife center and Halloween was Black Party. People would get dressed in costume and roam around a 2-block area filled with bars and dance clubs. It was crazy. And as for Halloween itself, its become a celebration like it is around the world, amd though the holiday itself is borrowed, we do have something that began back in Spanish times. It's called "Pangangaluluwa," which literally translates to "Acting like Spirits." It doesn't happen much in the cities, but in the provinces, kids and adults would walk from house to house, usually dressed as ghosts and sing for gifts at each house. It's similar to trick-or-treat, but of course, as Pinoys, we HAVE to sing while doing it. 😂😂😂 Happy Halloween!
Have fun. If youre coming from LA, you might miss the weather here. Pretty much the only weather better than socal is San diego. I want to go to the Philippines soon but high humidity makes my congestion issues even worse.
This is the new Vibrant and safe place Brian. I love this place. This BGC is much better compared to other 1st world city center because BGC is brand new, all the buildings are new all are glittering, and security guards are all over the place. Our main office is in Hillsboro, and I always go to Portland city center 10 years ago but now I don't want to go there because you will be bullied by the homeless people, and some are really high on drugs you always need to watch your back.
BGC is a very pretty little city and Brian, here you are with your very colorful and adorable presentation of it, which, let's be honest, nobody else can do. Isn't that a perfect match? 😊
BGC makes sense for all the rite reasons. It has everything. It will be destination 2025 thanks to you Brian at some point for the initial visit with my wife and babies. I was at a café today and I was telling my wife "do you know the prices in BGC, we are being duped on all fronts here regardless of how much or how less we make, life is better there"
There is a new one - Northwin Global City by Megaworld Corporation outside of Metro Manila ( Bulacan ). There will be a main street there planned like New York's 5th avenue.
Our government should pay foreigners like you by promoting tourism industry in our country..cause more tourist, creates more businessess and more jobs for Filipinos..it's a win2 for both.Only foreigner can attract foreigner..so yeah..😁
Be careful what you wish for. Gentrification has its benefits and certainly it's negatives. The average local wage is far lower than foreigners. You do not want a bunch of wealthier people moving to your area. The Western world is expensive AF for a reason. That reason is that pretty costs more but most importantly fuckery.
