    Thank you for watching Part 4 of 5 as we explain the rules for Aircraft Carriers for Axis & Allies! Part 5 is out soon. Next time, we tackle Amphibious Assaults!
    What questions do you have about Cruisers and Battleships?

    I recall a bombardment strategy the allies can use, basically 2 cruisers 1 infantry and one artillery against any large army, 4 chances to hit and 2 hits likely, this extends of course to 10 cruisers, 5 artillery and 5 infantry attacking western Europe or Japan turn after turn until your invasion units begin to get a second round of combat, then your close

    i’ve only seen your axis and allies videos because it’s pretty much the only board game i play, based on my favorite board games being axis and allies and risk, what other board games would you recommend to me that’d it’d like

      Well, to be honest, Axis and Allies typically satisfies my desire for heavy strategy games. So, my other go-to games are lighter and more social. I enjoy Cosmic Encounters, Wingspan, Root, Photosynthesis, and the occasional game of Carcassonne. Plus, some chess and chess variants.
      Other games in the same space as A&A that I have enjoyed included, Memoir '44, War Room, and Twilight Imperium. You might also enjoy those.
      I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    So for clarification, the battleship gets healed at the end of the player's turn, not the round, meaning a German battleship can be injured by Russia, then heal, injured again by the UK, then healed, then injured again by America, then healed - all in the same round, correct?

    • @BoardGameNation

      That is correct. Let's just say... the battleships in the version have outstanding onboard repair teams!

    Hi can the cruisers or battleships come from elsewhere for the amphibious assault? ot they have to be together with the transport to move and participate in the combat of the amphibious assault

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching!
      Cruiser and Battleships can come from different places, but in order to use the offshore bombardment ability they have to be in the same sea zone as the transport/s that is offloading troops into combat.

    So when a transport moves in for an offshore bombardement the cruiser and battleships can also move 1 to 2 spaces into the adjacent zone with the transports ? I thought they had to already be in the zone. This is much better.

    Corporal Clegg put out a video explaining how you almost never want to buy cruisers and showing ow statistically you’d be better off buying just about any other sea units. I am thinking of going with the seaborne AA shot as a way of making them relevant. Is that rule balanced?

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen Corporal Clegg's video and it is a good one! I agree 100% with his assessment. I don't think I have ever purchased a Cruiser.
      I am not sure what you mean by seaborne AA shot. Are you suggesting a house rule that would give the Cruiser an AA ability (shooting down air units on a 1)?

    • @charliedontsurf334
      @charliedontsurf334 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoardGameNation Cruisers have an "onboard AA Gun" which fires up to one shot per cruiser at the start of the first round of combat (but only ever one shot per enemy air unit). This ability works on both attack and defense. Inspired by ships like the USS Atlanta and USS Juneau (of the Sullivan Brothers infamy).
      I just worry that this might unbalance the game since it would make Taranto Raids and attacks on the Royal Navy around the UK a lot more dangerous. I play Global 1940.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would make the Cruisers way more potent. You are right that it would make fleets with Cruisers much harder to attack from land with air units, which would seem to favor the Allies in the Atlantic. Making the AA ability active while attacking adds a whole other level of power to the change.
      In thinking about that change would affect the game, I can see it reducing the usage of fighters and, by extension, carriers as part of a naval fleet. This would increase the value of destroyers and battleships. It would make me rethink my whole approach to assembling a naval fleet.
      Interesting thought.

    What if you have multiple cruisers and commit some of them to naval battle and the rest of them to bombard? Do all ships in a sea zone have to participate in the naval battle?

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! Good question!
      If you move units into any territory where combat is happening, everyone is involved. You can't send some to the sea battle and others to bombard the coast.
      In a slightly different, but related issue: If you have transports that are dropping units into two different territories and you have more than one Cruiser and/or Battleship, you can order the various ships to bombard different the different land territories. But, no one can off load from a transport if a sea zone is hostile and if the zone started as hostile no ships can use the offshore bombardment ability.
      Thanks for the question. Let me know if you have any more. I hope you will consider subscribing to the channel.

      @@BoardGameNation but after that it goes to normal combat and they can take fire... Or it's dump troops off the ships fire then they are excluded from the battle?
      Edit
      I rewatched it and got the answer I think I was looking for.
      I'm playing the allies and got the Japanese navy cleared out... But my friend has like 15 infantry and other mixed units on the main land of Japan.
      So I was planning on just dumping infantry and using the bombardment to get free kills and just do that until Japan ready to take.

      In Axis & Allies, there is no limit to number of units you can have in play. You aren't limited to the units that come in box. If you run out of pieces, use chips or other markers (coins, pieces from other games, etc).

    I’m a newer player, but it really seems that cruisers are the worst unit. I don’t think I have ever bought even one. It just seems far better to spend more for a battleship or buy a fighter (much more versatile) instead. Maybe if cruisers could bombard twice that would make them more useful.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome to the game and thanks for watching!
      I think the worst unit is the Anti-aircraft Artillery, but the Cruiser is not far behind. I don't think I have ever purchased one either. I prefer a Carrier and Fighters for transport escort duty.
