Thanks for watching Part 2 of our 3 part series on Air Combat for Axis and Allies! Part 3 will be out soon. There we will talk about Anti-Aircraft Artillery! Make sure to subscribe to never miss a thing. What questions to you have about bombers and bombing raids?
When going through the rule book this section was quite overwhelming to me 😅. This video was clear as day and really helped me in understanding how it works within the game. I was wondering, what’s your opinion about using strategic bombing raids, for example when is it ideal to use them and is it always worth it. Thanks for another clear and consistent video as always, helped a ton!
Learned a lot, thanks. We started with 1941 and very quickly moved to the 1942 version. We had to get the Pacific and Europe games for our 72” global map. Please do a video on Tactical Bombers and Mechanized Infantry. My kids and I love this game
Glad this helped! We have a video in the pipeline that will lay out all the differences between 1942.2 and the 1940 games. We hope to have that out soon. Thanks for watching!
Great video!! I learned something VERY important - the escorts do NOT get targeted by the complex AA. I always wondered why anyone would bring escorts - now I know!!
in the version of "Risk" ( board game ) that I made, we are going to allow a certain area of a players Industrial Complex to be damaged / destroyed by a bombing raid for a period of 2-3 turns. you can destroy an entire factory complex if you have enough bombers to send to destroy each area of a players factory all in one turn. we are using Monopoly $$ in Risk instead of I.P.C's . a Factory will cost $350.00 to build after conquering an entire continent and holding it for one complete turn. Have never liked the Axis Allies rule that say's a Factory cannot be destroyed.
Sounds interesting! There is a lot of debate around the Bombing Raid rules and complexes. I am not huge fan of using them except near the end of a game to crush a country that has turtled up. As far as destroying a complex, I think this makes bombing raids too powerful. The UK and USA can buy bomber after bomber and destroy Berlin in just a few turns.
Here's a cool video series idea: compare the rules differences for the different axis and allies games. For example, strategic bombing raids, neutrals, AA guns, national objectives, research and development, political situations, etc.
Thanks! I have been thinking about a difference video for each game. If you know how to play 1942 2nd, here is what you need to know to play 1941, A&A Pacific, 1914, etc. Lay out the difference between each game. What do you think?
@@BoardGameNation Thanks for replying! Lets take a look. I am playing as a Soviet Union and I want to place an industrial complex on the Soviet far east. Can I place an industrial complex where ever I want? P.S. Sorry for My bad English language
Your English is very good! You purchase a industrial complex during the purchase units phase. Then, in the Mobilize Units phase you can place that complex in any territory that you controlled at the beginning of your turn. The number of units that can be placed in a complex is limited to the IPC value of the territory it is in. So, if you control it at the beginning of your turn you can build a complex in the Soviet Far East, but it will only be able to produce one unit per turn. Also, you can't build units in a complex on the same turn that it was built (or captured). Note that this is the rule for most versions of the game, but you should check the rule for your version to make sure. I hope that helps!
In casual and tournament play, it depends on the version. I would say that most don't play it in 1942.2, but in Anniversary and Global they do. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Hey weird question that probably rarely would happen but if a bombing raid has damaged an industrial complex and then that territory is later seized. Does the player who gained that territory have to fix the complex or when the territory is seized does all the damage done to the complex go away?
Thanks for watching! Good question. Yes, the damage done to a complex carries over when it changes hands. It will need to be repaired by the new owners if they want to build to its capacity. Thanks again for watching!
Or what if the attacker is both bombing and attacking on land the same territory and accidentally does the land battle first, taking the territory, must they then bomb themselves ?
The easiest way to explain the difference is that Strategic Bombers can do bombing raid on Air and Naval Bases or Industrial Complexes. Tactical Bombers can only bomb Air or Naval Bases. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.
A bomber only attacks an industrial complex but is the vice versa true that only industrial complex can attack the bomber ? Or is it that any other unit , by which I mean an AAA gun ,Can attack an approaching bomber. Or will the industrial complex be the only one to be able to take it down ??
Thanks for watching! Bombers can attack a territory or perform a strategic bombing raid on an Industrial Complex. An IC will only fire if it is attacked directly with a strategic bombing raid. It will fire at escorts fighters that are accompanying the bombers on that raid, but never at any air units that are attacking a territory. If the bomber attacks a territory with an AA gun present, the AA gun will fire as normal and the attacker may assign any AA gun hits to a bomber. I hope that answers your question. If not, here is a video all about AA guns. Let me know if you have any more questions! Thanks again for watching!
@@BoardGameNation thanks again for helping me !!! I just recently started out with this game and it has a steep learning curve but your way of explaining has helped me a lot time and again. Btw I started playing on tripleA . Would you suggest some good tripleA maps to play on as a beginner to intermediate level ??
Happy to help! I'm sorry, but I don't know much about TripleA. You could ask in some of the Facebook forum. I prefer Axis and Allies Online by Beamdog that is available through Steam. It has a solo version that is good for beginners. Have fun!
So which do you think are better: Tactical or Strategic Bombers? Because in g40 the strategic bombers are only 1 IPC more expensive than the tactical bombers and that makes it difficult for me to decide. :)
Good question! Thanks for asking. Every unit has a time and place, but on the whole I think the tactical is better. It can land on carriers and gets a bonus from fighter and tanks. Good for sea and land combat. Plus, it can still do some raiding. Overall, just a more versatile unit.
I need help with convoying sea zones. It’s similar to bombing. I thought I could get an answer here. I’m convoying on G40 Europe in sz 97. There is Italian and German value. I did five damage. Who is this damage to ? this is an answer I couldn’t find anywhere.
@@BoardGameNation sorry a convoy zone susceptible to sub/naval attacks. It’s the Adriatic Sea zone so there’s a lot of ipc to be lost From both German and Italian territories. The ipc total for that convoy zone is 12. So say I roll the dice and do five damage. Who takes the damage? The sea zone is shared.
Damage in Convoy Zones is rolled for on the opponents turn. So, if a UK sub were in convoy zone adjacent to German and Italian held territories, the UK would roll for damage on each of the opponents turns and record the losses accordingly. I hope that helps.
Tough interception rules, defending fighters should always shoot back, maybe a technology development could fix this, I'm always working on the free technology game, just dial it down and stretch it out. One free per player / 3 per team. Rolling 2 dice and consult your own custom technology chart #2-12. Technology is effective after non combat to reduce surprise. We've used technology from the many A&A expansions over the decades, hovertanks, helicopters, APC, trucks, fighter-bombers, commander in chief rules 1984, plus many more. Buying technology tokens also speeds the technology development, every token bought eventually rolls it's 6 and then rolling 2 dice to see what the new technology is.
I have a question. As UK I strategic bomb Germany for the fuel 10 ipc’s. Uk’s turn. Can the US then do their own bombing Raid Germany? Or do they have to wait for FULL new turn?
Bombing raids don't have to wait for anything. The UK can bomb on their turn and the US can bomb on the same round of play. Germany has an IPC value of 10. So, the complex there can take up to 20 points of damage. While the Allies technically could continue to bomb the complex, if it already has 20 points, it would be meaningless to continue. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@DennisCoffman-dd8ok No. Germany can choose to make repairs (or not) during the Purchase Units phase at a rate of 1 IPC per point of damage dealt during bombing raids.
@@BoardGameNation I understand that there is an option to not repair, but do they still lose IPCs from the raid? OR is it because they decided to not repair that no IPC damage is done?
General rule question...1940 global, say on Russia first move ,they take Korea... Japan never attempts to take back Korea ...then eventually , Germany takes Russia....the question is, can usa take Korea from conquered Russia? Or does Korea remain Russian?
Thanks for watching! Good question! Ok. In your scenario, the answer to the question is this: in order for Americans to take control of Korea, the Japanese would have to take first, then the Americans could take control of it. If the Japanese leave it alone, it remains under the control of the Russians and no one collects the income. It is important to note that this is also true of all of the territories that were originally control by the USSR. For an Allied power to control it and gain the income, it would have to fall to an Axis power and be liberated by an Allied power. We offered a few examples about this in our full How-to-Play video. They might help clear this up. This video is focused on 1942.2, but the rules are the same on this issue. Jump to 1:16:29 of this link. th-cam.com/video/IKyWaC0vrtM/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps! I have had rough luck with it online and on the table top. I am not convinced that the math works out to make it a good value proposition. Thanks for watching!
Maybe I'm not understanding how this works, but it seems to me that strategic bombing, if successful, does 2 IPC of damage in essence. First is the normal IPC damage roll, but then if you are damaging the factory and the opposing side has to repair it, otherwise they can't build there, that could really cripple the other side. Imagine if Germany had to repair 10 IPC and Italy 3 IPC every round on top of losing 13 IPC (or more), then buy units while the allies could continue to grind out better equipment (tanks going up against infantry for example). That's a big advantage for the allies considering the US has more disposable income to crank out a bomber every turn along with a transport and more ground units and UK can just focus on ground units to continually take over France. Eventually the Germans lose that battle as the Russians come from the East. That's if I'm understanding how that works. Considering a factory can take x2 damage, in theory that factory repair per turn could cost 26 IPCS + losing that many IPCs in a turn. If that doesn't cripple any nation, then I don't know what would.
