According to IMDB they practised the dance for two weeks, which makes more sense for a film tbh.
I read they practiced the dance SEPARATELY for two weeks, but no rehearsal together the day they danced.

She did pretty well too, from the moment she say "afraid" to the dancing, her smile, her insecurity, the. "pro blush" she is the half of the scene, without her this one be legendary. So both did a great job.

The really spectacular piece of acting here was HERS. She totally sold the idea that she'd never danced a tango before, while we know she'd been rehearsing and taking lessons for weeks. The blend of skill and innocence is mesmerizing. BRILLIANT!
Love this movie. The tango scene was so well done. It looked like they had never danced together and he was whispering instructions to her on what to do next. This scene always warms my heart and makes me smile.

One of my top, favorite scenes out of all the films I've ever seen. I could watch this all day and listen to this same music all day too. Living in Manhattan I've talked to Pacino twice, one of them was a couple years ago; he's quite a character and full of charisma and energy, he does not disappoint!

Out of all of Al Pacino's performances, this has to be the most badass scene he's ever done. There's nothing like a blind veteran dancing a Carlos Gardel tango with a lovely young woman. It absolutely exudes chivalry and class. 💃

I remember when I was 18 and try to learn tango, my instructor said "Tango is the simplest dance but also the most complicated dance, You don't really need to learn how to tango, all you need is for the man to be able to lead and the woman to do what the lead set out to do"
Probably this is why this scene was so good, you don't rehearse tango most of the time, Tango is about passion and spontaneous, Al Pacino no doubt is a strong character Anwar was quick on her feet and able to catch up, that's why this scene is so magical.

Despite his being blind in the Scent of a Woman he could make perfect timing proper steps. Al is my lifetime idol 😂❣️ though he's no longer active in any showbiz. Such a great actor! Everybody knows he can see in real life but he plays the best looking blind man, like if I didn't know who Al Pacino was and they said he was blind in real-life I would believe it just based on his performance in this whole movie. He even has the look down pat
What I like about that scene is that Gabrielle Anwar seems to be genuinely interested in Al Pacino. This is not one of those movie scenes where two actors look like they are performing parts. There is genuine on-screen chemistry there.
Absolutely stunning. I don´t know if it is the Tango music, or the amazing Gabrielle Anwar, or the legend Al Pacino -or whatever, in any case the combined result imho is one of the most enjoyable movie scenes I know.

Years ago I had a ballroom dance teacher, Mr. William Ersser of San Diego, who would put on a blindfold and starting at one corner of the dance floor, cover the entire floor, including each corner, leading his wife Vivienne through an entire routine. Masterful!

If this happened today, the audience would all be pulling their phones out and posting the lovely dance of the two on social media instead of enjoying the moment. It's sad how cell phones & SNS's have literally taken over people's lives...and people think I'm the weird one for not owning a phone
Nope, I have zero social media save for FB to keep up with pictures of friends and family member's pets and kids...in that order. And I only check it maybe twice a week. I can barely navigate technology so that helps.
Turning a beautifully acted, beautifully written and beautifully directed scene into a way of saying ‘phone bad’ is laughable. You don’t have a phone and reject modern technology? Great, sure, there’s no problem. But this reads like it was written by a 56 year old socks-with-sandals American dad with 23 labels on his car about either religion, politics or automatic weapons. Time and a place for this kind of conversation, is all I’m saying. And a little bit of self awareness wouldn’t hurt either.
