Well, it's the fucking first tier of flamer. Still, I found it very good for certain situations, and pretty much the only weapon you have against the swarmids aka space bees.

I love the geoscape in this game, wish new xcom worked like this. I hope Phoenix Point has a geoscape like this but lets you abandon a mission and come back, that's the only thing i don't like is that abandoned mission disappear and don't have a 'retry' timer letting you send a stronger team if needed.
Lol, when watching this live, I was yelling at them to hit scroll lock to turn on night vision. Either way they would have died the way they play anyway from a UFO. UFOs are hard in this game early on, I had to club bloody sectoids to win since my bullets did nothing. Aliens are pointless early on really, least to me I found them pointless since you can't capture them live, but I have yet to research an alien corpse since I assume that leads to alien containment. More busy dealing with cults in this game and random monsters than aliens.
Yeah there's really no reason to even try with aliens until the third phase of the mod hits. I found that 1997 is "do every minor mission for funding and research everything you can," 1998 is "get helicopters and finish off cults and vanilla XCOM tech research," then when 1999 rolls around the game becomes an updated version of the Final Mod Pack (with A LOT more weapons clutter).
7:40 everyone has literally been saying all the time over and over again, that this modpack has ZERO PERCENT to 200% damage rolls on hits. For EVERY weapon. Still they say "this weapon is trash isnt it, it didnt kill that spider". Why cant they remember the tip to turn on the mod that changes the roll to 50% to 150% instead? Its not the weapons that are trash, its the roll.
in literally the last episode they said they didn't turn that on because this modpack has it's own damage modifying mod and the two being on at once would cause issues.
Love you guys but.. 11:25 no you didnt complete Terror From The Deep on Superhuman. You had a cheat mod turned on during the entire playthrough that made HiEx deal 20x damage to every tile without falloff. And you used that weapon in almost all missions to win, rather than relying on shooting, often killing up to 30 enemies off-screen at once from one HiEx. I love you guys but lets be honest, you did NOT complete that game legit, you cheated :)
Same exact tactic works with un-modified hi-ex, it just takes a lot longer (and would had made for shitty streams that would had resulted in viewers leaving). You should try this game on superhuman difficulty with “just shooting”, before whining about how people don’t play the game the way you think is correct.

I think the flamethrower works as a DOT not an instant damage
I know fire has a chance to "stun" by removing time units. I used flame grenades pretty effectively but flamers were never worth it for me.
Nah it does deal damage directly. Very good against swarmids.
