    69 Boss 429 is the best looking classic Mustang by far to me.
    And while that Boss ‘9 engine was neutered from the factory it was a really better engine than the street 426 Hemi. Boss 9 heads flow a good 40 cfm more than the street Hemi head and had a much more efficient combustion chamber.
    GT500 is #2

      Do you know that Ford produced 7 429CJ Torino station wagons '70-'71? 5 had the shaker hood option. Six had the Country Squire trim. One 1970 was a plain-Jane car with a 429 SCJ 4 speed with drag-pack option and I own it.

    Wonderful collection, I've always loved the Fords, born and raised in Ford family. Mustangs always seem to be the most popular, my dad had many 65-66 Fast Backs when i was very young, still has a couple, and a nice 67 Fast Back. I've always Loved the Clevelands and about 15 years ago got into the 429-460 BBF,s. The FE,s were a little before my Time. I've had my 86 Mustang since 1994, seen a few different engines, 351 W, then couple Clevelands, then went to a Stroked BBF, absolutely love em. Some of my favorite Muscle Cars were the early Mustangs, really liked the 71 Boss 351, and Cleveland Powered 71-73 Mach 1,s along with the 429 CJ, and SCJ Powered Mustangs. My 86 is more of a 1/4 mile car now, 275/60 Drag Radial racing. I always wanted a Nice Older Ford Muscle Car to cruise on the streets. Mustangs get all the attention and then you got the Cougars too, but I've finally figured out which i would love to own for street cruising and having fun. It would be a 70 Torino Cobra, 429 SCJ, gotta be a Top Loader 4-speed, and would prefer the Drag Pack Option, 3.91,s or 4.30,s out back in that 9" That's what I'm definitely looking for. I know there quite heavy, not looking to build a race car, got my Mustang for that, but looking for something you can throw some people in, Fire up that Super Cobra Jet, and yank that Hurst Shifted Top Loader and just have fun with it. A Shaker scoop would also probably be a must for me.

    Gonna age me - I owned all 3 of them back in the day... 67 GT500 & Boss9 had hood wow -- open the hood and people went WOW but otherwise sucked. 67 428 wasn't the CJ that Tasca put together in 68 and went on to dominate NHRA. Boss9 like Hemi sucked low end out of the box and needed constant high rpm to really perform. 100+ with 3.91 and the Boss9 was in its world and very stable at speed. Boss9 head coolant leak was a PITA but an experience I don't regret. The $1,201 Z engine option was hell of a bite in 1969 & then sold it for $3,000 in 73.... The Torino was a boat like Goats Chevelles Skylarks Runners & Coronets. Best thing was the room to work on the engines vs the Stang chassis. Kept the 67 for 24 years and my 9F02R has been in my garages since June 69.. Recently started it after 11 yrs & took less than 5 min - damn CJ just won't quit. Gotta change the Hookers and a T pan for the 7qt but I just don't seem to work as fast as 30, 40, 50 yr ago...

    1980 I was looking to buy a mustang for my wife. We went to look at one. A 67 with "pony package". He had to show me the chevy he had in the garage. A 68 Chevelle SS with 396 and only 18,000 miles. Then he took me across the street where there was a 68 Ford Mustang GT500KR. White with red stripes. He was asking $4500 for it. At the time I thought it was too much for my wife who had never even driven a stick.
    A few years prior to that I purchased a 428 Cobra Jet engine from a high school friend who had wrecked the mustang it was in. It came complete with shaker scoop and bell housing. I paid $385 for it.
    Transplanted it into my 76 Ford 4x4, put the shaker scoop in the barn and never saw it again. Such is life.

    • @413x398
      @413x398 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Speedo redlines were mandated by the fed so the driver could "see" that he was surpassing the national speed limit without actually reading the numbers themselves. Tach redline was ascertained by the manufacturer to tell driver he was exceeding "safe" operating parameters of the engine in question.

    Come on Ford guys, you should know this, that is a Cobra not a "Torino Cobra". There are no Torino badges on those cars anywhere. I believe they actually have the same body code as the Fairlane 500. I know, picky, picky, picky. School me if I'm wrong! I have never seen a title for one, so I don't know what they were legally registered as. I always lusted for those cars but never got close to owning one. I remember seeing a 70 1/2 Fairlane 500 with a 6 cylinder automatic running around where I lived in the 90's and often thought that I should have bought it based on it's probable rarity. Ford to the core but I like the uncommon stuff so I vote for the Cobra hands down, even though my first car was a 65 Mustang coupe with a 351w. Or how about a nice 70 1/2 Torino with the Drag Pack option?
