You are going to love it! I teach kindergarten at a K-3rd grade school. The upper grade teachers are always telling me they don't know how I do it and that you couldn't pay them to teach K. I love it though, I wouldn't want to teach any other grade. Those kindergartners are my babies! They are so full of love and it's awesome watching them grow and become more independent. I was told when I first started you will have to be very clear when talking to them. You literally have to show them everything from walking to when to sit down lol. I'm so excited for your new journey. You will be an awesome kindergarten teacher!

Jessie Crisp let me know what u find good on TpT and sellers so I can check them out. I’m in Texas so we use TEKS & I’m sure other adoptions but the skills r the same! I just purchased the Tara West toolkits and am prepping those soon for them to have in class & a set for their backpacks in case. I have been told anything Kindergarten Smorgashboard has is amazing too! I have created a digital stations rotation board since they can physically rotate around the room they will rotate what they work on from their seats. I have a list of things to figure out & prep like morning meeting/calendar time, and what each subject time frame will consist of.
I’m so bummed you’re leaving 6th grade! I was so excited when I found out you taught the same grade and subject as me! I wish you best in kindergarten though and am thrilled to watch you go on a new adventure!
That's a huge jump! I loved teaching kindergarten! I taught it for 5 years! I taught first for one year and now I'm moving to second! I'm so excited! My kinders love The Learning Station, Koo Koo Kangaroo, and Jack Hartman in TH-cam for fun learning videos!
Just a thought about the LED lights. I think it’s a cute idea! Do you have 2 bathrooms in your classroom? Usually for K, there is a bathroom inside the classroom so distinguishing between girls and boys may not be necessary!
Jessie Crisp 🤣 how about using a light to distinguish when you are approachable or not - for example, when doing small group work, light is on meaning you aren’t available for questions? Or, you can use it to identify “quiet time” in the day. When the light is on, we are collecting ourselves, calming down, etc. I would do that after recess, or in between activities before jumping into learning activities. With covid, not sure how that would play out if recess isn’t offered, but just a thought :)
