    I’m a book designer, majority of my clients are self published via KDP and Ingram, always best to get a file for each platform you publish to! They may not look different, but sometimes the slightest change in setting, margin..etc can make a big difference like the spine.

    Thank you for this information because I only knew of KDP. Once I setup my first books I will give Ingram spark a try. I would love to see a book I made at a local book shop.

    Hmm, that's interesting. Unfortunately, if we want our novels to sell beyond the net, we have no choice but to use Ingram. But this was worth knowing.

    Even with you just flipping through you can see the difference in the pages. That’s unfortunate! I too was thinking Ingram so other stores could pick up my books 🤞🏾 KDP is working on this on our behalf!

    Thank you, Mari. Love that new cover! That was a very fair and well explained comparison. Does Ingram Spark give you a choice of paper quality for colour print? I am surprised they charge so much for a file upload. I didn’t know that. Do you think the high cost was due to the full-colour content?
    I’m interested to see your Novel comparison. A friend published a couple of non-fiction books using Ingram Spark, and the covers are very good quality and haven’t curled. But the paper is a bit thin and has shadows of the print from the other side on each page, which is not great. But I think there may be a global shortage of paper due the pandemic, so maybe these companies have to cut corners.
    Thanks again!

      Hi there 👋. So, I believe there is a higher quality of paper, but it wasn’t comparable to Amazon. I would’ve had to charge over $25 for the book just to make a couple dollars. If I decide to give them another chance I will do another video comparing the products again. 😃

    Why don't you ask IngramSpark to quote you to use a heavier weight of stock? The real test is to compare their colours and the quality of the text and the quality of the photos.

    • @marisuggs
      @marisuggs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the higher quality paper wouldn't be comparable--price wise--with KDP.

    I saw a another youtube video on spines between the two. The spines have two different widths. I was lead to believe that the KDP one was more narrow, though. So that's something to take into consideration when using both services.

    Hi! I tried to find a video where you may have explained how you made your book companion journal, but I don't think there is one. I was curious what program you used as I am also making a different type of workbook that I may consider putting into physical copies someday. I don't have plans for it at the moment, but as I'm working on creating my workbook in Canva, I was curious about what it may look like to publish it in physical copies later.

    I have tried to find pricing and came across the calculator and it seems high. I have a 200 page custom interior journal and have been stressing about the paper quality so I am so relieved to see this video and to know it is nice paper to write on. My question is - does the paper bleed ? Also, do you think around 27.00 or even 32.00 is a fair price for a full color, custom interior and entirely hand drawn 7x10 journal ? And for that many pages, do you recommend 7x10 or 8-1/2 x 11?

    • @marisuggs
      @marisuggs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nancy Richardson I do think it’s fair! Custom work is always a little more. Besides, sometimes the printing is so expensive that you have no choice but to price it higher.
      Also, it depends on the pen that you use as far as bleed. But I found that mine didn’t bleed, unless I used a marker to color in the coloring pages.

    This might sound crazy, but I'm curious to know that when someone self-publishes with Ingram Sparks, does their book still get posted on Amazon? Or is that an option?

    Thanks so much for this video. I never heard of Ingramspark but I'm glad to know the differences now. It seems like it's just not worth the extra money they charge especially due to the errors and quality which is super important. Appreciate the info! Question, I noticed that in the ingramspark book while you were flipping there was a dark-colored page that had a white border on the side. I was wondering if that was how it was designed, or if they just didn't print your design all the way to the edges of the page. I ask as I am looking to do a book that has fully colored pages (no white) and wondering if KDP does that and prints to the edge. Thanks in advance for your help!
