So I've watched all the Mixi reactions. From a guy who's been playing and writing since 78. 25 in Nashville. You need to go to Japan Mixi. They'd love ❤️ you! The Japanese girl band thing started with the Runaways in 78. It was bigger in Japan than the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. Changed the culture. Band Maid favorite. But totally get why you favor Nemophila they're awesome! Can't wait for the Hanabie reaction! Thanks Joel 😊
Doobie - The problems for Mixi is that they really do not like tattoos in Japan. Tattoos is the mark of Yakuza, the Japanese maffia, and you might not be let in at certain places. Or you might have to cover them up, and Mixi has tattoos that are hard to cover up, mainly those on the throat. I am not sure if they can make exceptions for obvious foreigners.
That's true about what you said about tattoos, but people's perception is changing quickly especially toward the western style tattoos as opposed to traditional Yakuza tattoos. I see a lot of young guys with tattoos these days in Japan.
As a Japanese man in his mid 60's, I vividly remember the impact that the Runaways had on us. Their song, Cherry Bomb, was a huge hit in Japan. I would not be surprised if they inspired many Japanese young women to get into rock.
I'm really glad they cleaned up the solos in later iterations of this song, but Mixi's absolutely right. Seeing them have so much fun together is what really sets Nemophila apart.
With a first original song as good as Oiran, it's no surprise that Nemophila continue to make great music. I really enjoy drummer Tamu's radiant pregnancy smile in this clip as well. So good!
YES!! Thank you for listening to your subscribers. SHE LOVES NEMOPHILA!! Good song to pick. I would've gone with an actual live version, but I'm cool with this. Meanwhile I'm sitting here saying to myself, I hope hope, HOPE he suggests Hanabie next. Aaaand he goes straight to it!! YES!! ANOTHER WIN!! Can't wait to see that one. Best guest. Best series.

@@GaryHolloway-810 just priced tickets to London $2000ish or 1000 pounds (cattle class) so cheaper than I thought but the next step up is $5000 or 2500 pounds (premium cattle class) so i'm thinking I would need a second band to see to make it worthwhile
@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook Yep that'd be some damn expensive concert tickets especially when no one even knows how long the set list will be . Newcross Inn is an adequate venue but it only holds 350 people, i was hoping they might've played at the Hammersmith odeon instead :(
Mixi is great 🔥🤘 Talking about Nemophila..Imo..they are the most talented band out there..They have it all: Passion 🔥 Work 💪 Heart ❤️ Talent 🙏🏻 I just wish that western world discovers this wonderful band ❤️
Once again, I love that Mixi reacts the best way at each great moment of the song. Important to make her know it was actually their first original song (and the one that cemented a strong fanbase from the start). Ok, next Hanabie, she should love 'em.
Joel, there is a series of live videos from Nemophilas appearance at Whiskey A GoGo. They are really good. I especially liked that one of my under appreciated favorites, Fighter, was included
Nice! This version of Oiran is probably the best one, no matter studio and live version. Just because they have so much fun and give it all. I think this was quite early in their cooperation and it was also new for them. You can see how much Haraguchi-san enjoys it, but also the other members. Nemophila is magic. Five super talented girls that found each other in Tamu's rehearsal studio. The chemistry is soo good between those girls.
The video did them justice. It is obviously in a rehearsal studio and it is obviously live. Mixi commented on that. She liked that it was a rehearsal that was so good. So - I see no problems having this version as a reaction. It is also very well balanced between all instruments, including singing, so you can hear everyone.
This is more raw than most of their Blu-rays or Studio albums ever after this. The closest you can get to a "real" live sound next to see them in person is catching a streamed liveshow or I guess some of the Naon No Yaon videos. All the rest is post-processed, the live Blu-rays aren't overly processed in Nemophila's case, but they certainly aren't raw. This video might have some production, but there is no way they would have left in all the mistakes if they went though it completely, it actually sounds pretty genuine to my ear. Their albums (especially Seize The Fate and Evolve) have a large amount of production on them.
@rolandkarlsson7072 Don't get me wrong. I think this song is fine. I was just saying that I think it's difficult to capture the energy and wall of sound you'll experience at one of their live shows. I suppose that's true for most great bands.
A MIXI ROCK/METAL CRUISE IS THE ONLY KIND OF CRUISE THAT WOULD BE AWESOME AND PERFECT FOR ME. THE MUSIC FANS ONBOARD WOULD BE AS AWESOME AS THE SETTING.
MIXI, in your last reaction to Band Maid you asked why there are so many exquisite female metal musicians in Japan. There are many reasons, here are the maybe most important (spoiler: it's not the local water): -- Many grew up in wealthy middle class families where work ethic, discipline and commitment was a normal must. -- Many started learning piano in private lessons at the age of 3-5. Normally they learned at least a second instrument at the age of 12-15, maybe later a third or forth instrument. A good example is Nemophila's Tamu (first name) MURATA (family name) who plays piano, drums, saxophone, xylophone, flute and maybe other instruments which I forgot. -- Many of them continued playing music at specialised schools and universities. Some are financed by the J-pop industry. -- The huge Anime and J-pop industry offer enough possibilities for young musicians to earn money and make a living out of their music. Typical example is Misa, the bassist of Band Maid, who earned her first money in a back band of a J-pop singer, famous in Japan. -- Anime expositions open the doors for international appearances. -- Specialised concerts for female-only bands. -- Several changed the genre. Tamu e.g. already had a career as a jazz drummer (in this period she learned sax) before she joined Nemophila. Asami, the singer of Lovebites started as a trained classic ballet dancer. After she had to give up due to an accident, she became an R&B back-up singer and finally came to Lovebites. There is a nice anecdote about her knowledge of the metal scene at the time. They band wanted to make a cover of Judas Priest's "Painkiller" and Asami asked "Judas who?" (btw one of Lovebites' best songs). The most striking example probably is Lovebites' Miyako, the dark haired guitarist and main composer of the band. She has a university degree as a classic piano player. At they age of 18 she self-taught her guitar. Listen to Swan Song with Chopin intro, where she switches seemingly effortless from piano to guitar. Nice is also the studio version (Corona years) of "Burden of Time" where she plays guitar than starts playing keyboard with the right hand while continuing guitar with the left hand. In many Lovebites songs one can find elements of 19th century classic music. -- A last point I want to mention is their motivation. Metal always had to do something with rebellion against something. Here is it the tight role of women in the conservative Japanese society. A way of women's lib., emancipation.
PS. A very last point is that most of these ladies are well educated in Japanese culture and traditional music, another source of inspiration. As an example listen to Band Maiko (= Band Maid) were they (fake) play traditional Jap. instruments, e.g. the shamisen. Most famous for this fusion of modern western and old Japanese instruments is the Wagakki Band. Listen to 焔 (Homura) + 暁ノ糸 (Akatsuki no Ito) / 1st JAPAN Tour 2015 Hibiya Yagai Ongakudo. A must know.
you should show her jinjer pieses live session or jinjer perennial or another band Seven Spires Gods of Debaunchery Music Video i think she would like them please let me know what you think
@@TheCyberMantis Not saying this wasn't cool in its moment but they have become so much tighter since then, without losing any of the fire or enthusiasm. And this version doesn't even have SAKI's dramatic back-bend at the end of her solo! Sheesh, without that it's not legit 'Oiran'!
I still enjoy this one and it's still worth checking it out imo, but it's basically a demo of the track. Some of the solo's in this version and some of the tracks of their Yaon performance in the beginning of their career are pretty muddy (honestly, there are lot of mistakes in the solo's in this version), probably because of them not really being used to each others style yet and still figuring out how they want to perform the song. But this is still one of my favourite tracks by Nemophila (it might be number 1 actually) and any version is worth chekcing out in my book. I do think this video shows how well they work together though and how much fun they are having and that's a really important part of Nemophila as well.
Sorry guys - I think this version is fire! It has so much enthusiasm. And the proof is in the pudding. Mixi loved it. So Joel made a perfect choice. Yeah, sometimes Joel make strange choices. But not this time IMNSHO. It would be nice if people stop to complain when the result obviously was a big hit. It is OK to have suggestions to Joel and maybe tell him when the choice was very bad. But just whining over (in your opinion) not 100% optimal choices is not cool.
they had so great Official Live Videos recently, and you took one out of the practice room for introduction ? Thats not a great introduction to a band, not that any of their music is anything but great, but I'd rather shown some good quality stuff for introducing someone to the band.
Why would you show this when there is a top quality live version of it? I get wanting to switch it up, but when that comes via showing shit quality, it definitely is not worth it. And no matter how the fanboys want to see this through their goggles, this is shit mixing and shit sound. And can't even argue that this is better because they "have fun", they definitely have more fun and more interactions in the real on-stage live version. Also, Zen would obviously have been the song of choice to show a guest that is a harsh vocalist herself...
