    As an American who moved to Finland, I can say without a doubt that Finn's live better than Americans. In America, everything is designed to put you in debt. Getting higher education puts you in an insane amount of debt, hospital bills from having a child will put you in debt. In Finland, higher education is free, in fact the government pays students a stipend for studying. Having a baby they get the baby box as shown in this video and the hospital bill is almost non existent thanks to their universal healthcare system and parents are given as she said 9 months of maternity leave. The living standard here is great and the companies provide great benefits for their workers. As long as Americans keep electing people like Trump that will further keep people in debt, the people in the US will never get to live so nicely.

    There are 3 things that foreigner would say that can annoy Finn:
    1. Finland is socialist
    2. Finland is in Scandinavia
    3. Sauna wasn't originally from Finland

    • @janikarkkainen3904
      @janikarkkainen3904 4 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Only the 3rd one triggered me. Not because I think Finnish are the only people to have a culture of bathing and/or spiritualism in some kind of heated rooms or tents, but because the word "sauna" itself is the most Finnish thing in the world. It's an original Finnish word, that only has some relatives in languages that are closely related to and/or derived from Finnish, and it's really old. So, sauna is from Finland - end of. A place to heat rocks in a pit closed with a tent or a room, might not be - although the tradition of Sauna in Finland goes at least as far as ~1000 BC.

      Sauna has remained an important part of the culture in the Baltic-Finnic (Baltic as the Baltic Sea) cultures. Yet peoples all over the arctic and subarctic have steam houses of some sort. North-Western Russia belonged to same cultural zone with Finland from Stone Age to Iron Age, rise of Novgorod finally cutting off that culture connection. So North-West Russian sauna or Baltic-Finnic sauna, same origin.

    Spent a summer in Trondheim, Norway. I come to the realization Scandinavian citizens come together and demand to be treated with respect and dignity. Healthcare, education, housing, safe public transit, walkable cities, etc. In the US we get cheap gas and the worlds largest military trifold.

    • @eric123abacus

      It's hard to do those things with an open borders immigration policy. Finns pay nearly 50% of there income in taxes, whereas the majority of Americans pay ZERO dollars in tax. Scandinavians (and I am one), have a deep sense of social responsibility, whereas Americans demand more and more yet are not willing to be responsible to their fellow citizens.

      Wuuff Enough to pull my weight and hopefully soon enough to leave in wealth. But what does my contribution has to do with the fact that immigrants from middle-east and Africa have very much lower employment rate than finns? Jobs where government is paying part of the salary are not included. Why would you even be offended? Its a fact we can't deny and which will cause problems. I can not imagine a situation where an African country or wealthy arabic gulf state would take in people in a scale that would drive down living quality of its own people.
      We are like a man who gave loans to people he didn't know because he wanted to help them. He used the money that was reserved for his children as inheritance. "They will pay back" said he. He even used money his children had put for safe keeping. Years passed and his treasury was almost empty. Only few people had returned the exact sum he had loaned. The man died of old age and his children inherited only a small sum of money. Their savings were likewise gone. They were forced to leave their father's house and comfortable life they had saved their moneys for.
      If you want to help poor people become a godfather of some child in Africa and fund his living and education.

What was more eye opening was that US citizens seem oblivious as to the extent of the stagnation. New Zealand runs a surplus ( not a deficit) and still has free healthcare, education including university liveable wage on top of minimum wage, a strong economy and near the top of the happiness index. Electric generation is 90% renewable and we are on track to be carbon neutral by 2050. It’s not all fabulous- we have our dark spots but ... Fathers get 9 weeks of which 3 weeks can be shared with a mother.

    • @JK-rw8zn
      @JK-rw8zn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's even better than 9 months maternity leave. Parents of a new baby are entitled to the following paid leave:
      * Around 4.5 months of maternity leave, starting from 5 weeks before the baby is due (or earlier if necessary), which can only be taken by the mother except in special circumstances.
      * Around 6 months of parental leave which can be taken by either parent or split between the parents (starting after the maternity leave ends).
      * 9 weeks of paternity leave (taken by the father), of which 3 weeks can be taken at the same time the mother is on maternity/parental leave and the remainder must be taken at a different time.

    I went to Finland for the first time in 2018 and went to a public sauna. I thought it was too hot and opened the door slightly. Another guy in the room scolded me in Finnish (which I couldn't understand) like he was about to murder me, and started to put WAY too much water on the hot stones and making the room WAY too hot, like he was protesting to me.
