When I finish round 3 I’m ending with a single double stitch instead of two double stitches and I don’t see where I might have gone wrong. After you do the split stitch you chain 3 on the first stitch, do you also do a single double stitch on the first stitch and then 2 double stitches on the following stitch?
Hi, sorry you're having trouble. To clarify the first stitch is only the ch3 which counts as the first dc. Then it's 2 dc in the next, the repeat is 1 dc, 2 dc. Usually if I end with only 1 and it's supposed to be 2 then I've accidentally missed one somewhere in the round. Alternatively it could be an incorrect stitch count from the round before so you can double check that you have 24 stitches to start round 3. I hope this is helpful.
I have a dumb question, when someone makes a MR and makes a number amount of stitches inside the ring for a hat, does that represent the amount of rows you will have in the hat until you increase to 12? I ask because some patterns ask for 10 inside the MR, or 5 and it increases till the 5th round and then you don’t increase anymore and continue the hat for the length wanted? 🤔
Usually the number of stitches inside the ring corresponds to the stitches themselves and their size. For sc it's usually 6 sts, hdc 8 sts, and dc 12 sts. If you're working with a stitch pattern or a different style hat then those numbers can vary according to the design. The number of increase rounds is targeting the crown size of the head you're making a hat for. So again this varies depending on what size hat you're making, style, yarn weight and stitch. So basic hat design is increase the crown circle to head size, then crochet to length. I hope this helps!
Can someone help me understand how you properly begin the next round of double crochets (once you start bringing the sides down) after the slip stitch ends the previous round? Each row ends with a slip stitch and my seam is drifting further and further over and it also dips down like a small V. It feels like I'm missing something- like you're supposed to chain one after each slip stitch. Or maybe you do the first double crochet in the same stitch you did the slip stitch. After I end a row with a slip stitch, I am not doing any chains (because she doesn't mention it) and I am beginning the next row in the next stitch with a double crochet.
Sorry you're having trouble, I'll try to help. It sounds like you might be missing the ch 3 alternative I use (or you can just start each round with a ch 3 that will count as the first dc if that's easier). You can see the ch 3 alternative at 4:46 this is how each round starts. Here is the ch 3 alternative tutorial if you need it th-cam.com/video/IB2WG7vRGUM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pg-uGiUbSHNTHbt2 I hope this helps.
Thank you for the reply! I did the ch 3 alternative throughout most of it. But once you got to the part where you’re “bringing down the sides” and there’s no more increases, you mentioned joining with a slip stitch and doing DC around in each stitch. So at that point I dropped the ch 3.
Thank you for the tutorial! Your video helped me to crochet a beanie in the round successfully!
Great job! I'm so glad it helped!
