Future comments for myself if I make this one again & of coarse if it helps someone, that's always good. This one was alot of trial & error for me with this; I fixed it over and over until I liked it. I like the outcome alot now. 2 comments were really helpful.... one about removing 1 row of increase rounds.... and another about creating a chain to measure the circumference required for the head. So thank you to those people for those inspirations. I decided to just use a piece of yarn to measure my head circumference (bc I don't have time to count stitches). I pulled off 1 increase round and it was still too big, so I pulled off a second. Once the rim of this circle I had crocheted matched the size I want the brim to be, I started building regular DC stitches to get the height (stopped increases). But thing is.... she does 10 regular + 4 fpdc/bpdc for the brim..... I only needed 7 rows (once it was about to my hairline, for reference) then added 4 rows of fpdc/bpdc for the border. And that is visual preference, it could have worked with 8 rows of dc and 3 rows of fpdc/bpdc for a smaller rim if you don't want it that thick on the border. Anyway. So for me, I did.... Size 4 yarn Size H (5mm) hook R1: The original circle with 10 dc R2: 2 in each R3: 1,2 pattern R4: 1,1,2 pattern R5: 1,1,1,2 pattern R6-R12: 1 only R13-R16: fpdc/bpdc for brim This worked for me personally. I just started crocheting several weeks ago. This is the first beanie tutorial I've been able to complete successfully! I was able to make this in several hours! Thank you so much!!
I have crocheted 5 beanies this Christmas season and this is the most accurate, best fitting, easy and easy to follow pattern yet. Thank you Mindfulknots!!!!!

I started the beanie last year but gave up when I couldn't count the rows as i was a beginner, and i took it up this year again with more determination, and it finished it even though i had to unravel many times, the instructions are simple, clear and short, perfect for a newbie like me, thank you for the amazing video ❤
My son has a big head and a lot of hair. To make this big enough for him, I used a 7mm hook, started with chain 6 to make the center circle and 20 double crochets for round 1. Then 3 in 2 for the first TWO rounds. Then 4 in 3, 5 in 4, 6 in 5, and 7 in 6 for one round each. Then I followed the rest of your pattern exactly (starting at 7:58). It came out perfect. Thanks so much for this!
I read the comments already posted and can’t agree more. I’ve been trying to crochet for years and although I’ve completed projects, they weren’t exactly what I wanted. This is the very best instruction and the beanie is perfect. Thank you.
I made my mom a bunch of these because she went through chemo for breast cancer and her hair has never been the same. Now she's not so embarrassed to go out in public. THANK YOU💗🙏💗🙏💗🙏💗🙏💗🙏
I am an absolute beginner and big proctastinator and this is the first piece I was able to finish EVER 😁 it was so much fun and I loved making it. Your tutorial was amazing and super easy to follow, I'm totally gonna make a second one!
I’ve followed this tutorial so many times it’s so underrated,, it makes the cutest beanies ever and now o strictly use this pattern for them,,, good job girl
This was by far the easiest tutorial to follow for a beanie that I've found so far. I was making one for an adult male, so I ended my last round of increases with 9 double crochets followed by an increase every 10th stitch. Then I crocheted 5 rounds without increases followed by 3 rounds of the pattern she uses at the bottom. It fit perfectly!
These were thorough instructions on how to crochet a beanie; I appreciated you bringing in the camera closer when you showed the front and back posts and I was able to see where you were placing the hook better, thank you. A very good tutorial.
This has been the best tutorial on crocheting a beanie I have ever seen on YT. Thank you so very much for this. I was able to complete in a few hours and it’s beautiful
This is a fantastic little tutorial!!! I've been crocheting for almost a year now, watched many TH-cam videos, done my fair share of diverse projects and learned to read patterns along the way. I wish everyone did their tutorials like this! You can follow whether you're a beginner or more experienced crocheter. It's not to slow or too fast paced. It's just, so well done.
Thank you for making this video, this was my first successful crochet project and I was able to give it to my grandma who liked it a lot! This was a great tutorial with good explanations :D
Thank you sm for such a great tutorial! I’m a beginner and I haven’t been that proud of my projects. But I finished my hat last night and I cannot believe I made it myself! It’s so beautiful and I’m so proud of it. The tutorial was so helpful and straightforward.
Thanks for sharing! It took me two trials to make this successfully as i was using medium yarn and 5mm crochet. The first time I tried it, it was very big and I had to undo everything. So I decided to reduce stitches by 1 from the beginning. I did 9 instead of 10 in the first row, 18, 27, and so on. 63 in the repeated 10 rows. Turned out very well! Hoping that it stretches further but is snug right now. Love the pattern! Finished it in a day the second time!
I completed one beanie in one day! This video is so good, the instructions are clear and easy to follow and the beanie turned out super cute. I used a cotton yarn and still the beanie fits perfectly! Thank you Mindful Knots for this superb tutorial. ❤
I LOVE this tutorial. There is no unnecessary talking for the sake of loving to hear your own voice. You explain things in a matter of fact way without constantly stumbling over your own words due to your mouth going faster than your brain and feeling the need to fill every moment with noise. Many crochet content creators will not edit out their word stumbling, so it makes it difficult to understand what they’re trying to say. Again, I believe they just love to hear themselves talk. I’ve been trying to find a simple tutorial to learn crocheting in the round and the incessant chatter from all the videos I have watched until this one made it difficult to focus. Thank you for getting straight to the point and only conveying what’s important. I now understand the pattern for increases in the round. You have a new subscriber.
Finished mine. I used thicker yarn so I had to adjust the amount of increases and rows. I like this pattern. With some simple adjustments this pattern would can work with almost any weight of yarn.
easy & fun pattern, thank you for slowing down when teaching front post & back post, I couldn’t get those two down but ur example was perfect to understand, Thank You !!!
If you ever need to slow a video down (not this one it's perfect) TH-cam has the option under the three dots in the top right hand corner to slow the video. That's how I learned to crochet.
I love that you jump right into what is needed. I love the colour of yarn choice. I like hearing the soumd of the yarn as the crochet hook weaves its way through the pattern. The patyern is nice and I have learned enough stitches to complete the project. I must not leave out the warm and friendly visitor who was in the video for their cameo appearance. Blessings upon you and your loved ones. Thank you for sharing

I successfully made my first beanie and it’s for my son. The tutorial your step by step so profound made easy for beginner like me. The outcome is awesome. Yesterday I bought a LionBrand yarn for my 2nd beanie project. So can’t wait to start crocheting. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Crocheting is a totally new thing for me as I challenge myself to learn something new to start this year. I wanna prove that it's never too late to learn (I'm now 49 going to be 50 soon!). So here I go! TH-cam is my teacher. I have made my 1st project of making infinity scarf then I wanna extend it to a beanie. After checking out some tutorials here for beginners, then I came across this Mindfulknots! And I am now working on round 4 of the beanie. Your instruction is easy to understand, so helpful for a super beginner like me. I paused and go back many times too. Sometimes got lost with the pattern; did I do double crochet on that stitch? And redo again. 😂 I enjoy this new journey. Thank you so much Mindfulknots! I can't wait to have my 1st beanie done! 😘😘
Just finished my first bennie from your tutorial, I cut back on a few rounds just to fit my head, I love the outcome, definitely will use this again an again...Thank you much!
I do what to make a quick note that almost no crocheter brings up when crocheting in the round. Start every other row off with an increase stitch (2 DC into the same stitch) If you don’t do this, but rather start all rows off with the appropriate number of 1 DC into each stitch first, all of the increase stitches will be aligned and you will end up with a hexagon instead of a circle. I keep it simple and I begin the pattern with an increase stitch on every even numbered row. So here is what I mean. Let’s say we’re starting at row 4. Row 4 has a repeating pattern of one DC per stitch for 2 stitches, then 2 DC into the third stitch Row 5 has a pattern of one DC per stitch for 3 stitches and then 2 DC into the 4th stitch Row 6 has a pattern of one DC per stitch for 4 stitches and then 2 DC into the 5th According to most in the round videos, row 4 will begin with one DC into the first 2 stitches and row 5 will also begin with one DC into the first 3 stitches. In fact, every row starts with this portion of the pattern. Do not do this. Start row 4 with 2 DC into the very first stitch and then do one DC into the next 2 stitches and so on. Row 5 will begin with one DC into the first 3 stitches, then 2 DC into the 4th stitch and on. Row 6 is an even numbered row, so start with the increase stitch of 2 DC into the first stitch then one DC into each of the next 4 stitches. I hope this helps out any beginners who stumble across this video because this tip seems to be the biggest secret that crocheters gatekeep and I don’t know why.
This has been the best most simple and accurate instructional crochet video I have ever watched…. I just started and I was finally able to complete a beanie thanks to you!!!🎉🎉🎉
Super helpful and illustrative! I was trying to wing it from another pattern and kept increasing when I didn't mean to... watching this, I immediately recognized what I was doing wrong. Thanks!
I am almost done with my very first beanie! I am a newbie to crochet and u were one of the easiest and easy to follow how to videos I found! Excited to learn more!
Reading these comments I'm so glad I chose to start with this project and not someone else's, so far so good, and yes, simple and easy to follow, thanks ✌️
I just made this and your teaching made it an easy pattern to learn. My tension must need work because your stitches look tighter than mine. No gaps. Ty for a great tutorial!
THE CAT's tail!!! Yes, I couldn't help but to notice the cat's tail moving, perhaps wanting your attention? I did watch the whole video, very well explained and easy to understand. I am excited to try it now!
I've made about 7 of these now using the Lion Brand Landscapes yarn. They don't take too long to make at all. I like how easy it is to adjust the pattern to suit your size requirements as well. For me, I find using a 5mm hook works best. I also skip the last increase round and do six of the straight double crochet rounds after the last increase round instead of ten, and finish with four rounds of the FPDC and BPDC ribbing. The other thing I like about this pattern is you don't have to make the ribbed edge separately.
Absolutely incredible pattern and video. Thank you x 3 for such a sensible way of explaining things. No-nonsense, effective, crystal clear. My hat came out perfect 👍🏻 I just did 2 more increase rounds and voila. Made my first beanie ever.
Love the pattern. Would help tremendously to know how many stitches should be total after each row so we don't accidentally add or drop stitches! Thank you!
Hi! Since we start with 10 double crochets(DC), each row should have 10 more stitches than the previous row. For eg: row 2 will have 20 (two DC in each stitch), row 3 will have 30 (1DC and then 2DC in the next stitch), row 4 is 40, and so on till it fits your head, and then we add the ribbing Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tutorial making my first beanie without any trouble. Love the tutorial and the close up on the stitches 👍👍👍 easy to follow for a beginner.
I have had the crochet skill but never made anything. This is the third thing I’ve made and I’m currently following along with your video & it is sooo easy. I can’t wait to finish this one and make more! ❤️
Omg thank you!! I would always get confused on the chain two and would think it counted as a stitch and would go into it and my work would be sooo off!!! This helps me understand a lot thankkkkkkkkk youuuuu!!!!
The front post and back post stitch that creates the border really sets this beanie apart! Love the way it looks. Very professional. Perfect for me and gifts! I just did 2 rows of it and it looks great!
Thank you so much for this easy tutorial. I’ve never been able to make a beanie. I’ve been stuck on granny squares for 30 years! You were so easy to follow.
Great video with clear instruction! This was my first beanie and it turned out too large for my head so I’ll be doing some research to figure out what I did wrong 😂
I just made this, took me a few hours but it was imo beginner friendly. The only thing I did differently is 7 rows after I finished increasing instead of 10.. then the 4 rows of the ribbed design and it came out perfect ❤
This is by far the best beanie hat tutorial out there! Being a beginner, I could follow the tutorial with ease and I did make my first beanie!!! ❤️ Great job , love the video!
Best super simple yet creative beanie pattern I’ve seen. Going to give this a try! So glad I don’t have to do it in pieces and stitch it together. Thank you for posting/sharing.

Hi I commented a year ago when I made my very first hat, it’s now a year later I’m revisiting this video many hats later💓💓💓thanks for the best tutorial ever
@@danielle5355 You might be increasing when you shouldn't. Count the number of stiches after each round where you need to increase. I think that here we're supposed to go 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. Good luck!
I love the ribbing done this way. It's beautiful and simple. And I appreciate the detailed demonstration that made it easy to understand. I did it today on a beanie I made and I love it!
Hi. Beginner here! I like the video the up close shots and how well you go over things. The beanie is big. I even reduce the last two rows. But I am glad it was have to make it.
I used bigger yarn and mine turned out to look like jolly the green giants beanie LOL I think I make it into a pillow. But yes great video, easy to follow.
I love how clear you make the process . Something that seemed so tricky makes sense with your tutorial. Question though, what size would this be considered and how do you adjust the sizing for smaller or larger heads?
There are charts showing how big to make the top of the hat for different sized heads. I think I looked up diameter of a hat. When you reach the indicated diameter, you quit increasing and switch to the crochet stitch you are working in. Hope that helps.
No music, no 4 minute intro and no long talk, simply straight to the crocheting! Great video thank you

Size 4 yarn
Size H (5mm) hook
R1: The original circle with 10 dc
R2: 2 in each
R3: 1,2 pattern
R4: 1,1,2 pattern
R5: 1,1,1,2 pattern
R6-R12: 1 only
R13-R16: fpdc/bpdc for brim
This worked for me personally. Hopefully this is enough info to help anyone troubleshoot who is struggling too.

Thanks!
I love this pattern. I just made my son a rainbow blanket in this pattern and it looks so cool.
This is the video that taught me how to start my first hat 😍
I 5mm hook, but when i finished the hat it was like circle
What wrong with me ?
Thanks for helping me make my first crochet hat. Your tutorial is so easy to follow and understand.
Thank you!
Yes please
Hi! Since we start with 10 double crochets(DC), each row should have 10 more stitches than the previous row.
For eg: row 2 will have 20 (two DC in each stitch), row 3 will have 30 (1DC and then 2DC in the next stitch), row 4 is 40, and so on till it fits your head, and then we add the ribbing
Hope this helps!

Exactly I was just thinking the same thing, because I’m notorious for adding stitches , I must count them
@@ShehzeenKhan13 it does thank you very much! Because I must count stitches or I’d have a messed project
Thank you for these instructions. You did a super job! I can't wait to wear my hat!

I have had the crochet skill but never made anything. This is the third thing I’ve made and I’m currently following along with your video & it is sooo easy. I can’t wait to finish this one and make more! ❤️
Made this today and it came out wonderful .Thank you
Omg thank you!! I would always get confused on the chain two and would think it counted as a stitch and would go into it and my work would be sooo off!!! This helps me understand a lot thankkkkkkkkk youuuuu!!!!
thank you.
clear, straight to the point...you showed all angles well
The front post and back post stitch that creates the border really sets this beanie apart! Love the way it looks. Very professional. Perfect for me and gifts! I just did 2 rows of it and it looks great!
Thank you so much for this easy tutorial. I’ve never been able to make a beanie. I’ve been stuck on granny squares for 30 years! You were so easy to follow.
Thank you so much! Made this beanie for my nephew today. Your instructions are FANTASTIC! I've never been able to make a circle until now. Thank you!

Great video with clear instruction! This was my first beanie and it turned out too large for my head so I’ll be doing some research to figure out what I did wrong 😂
Thank you! This was my first project! Very easy to follow and my hat came out great!
Thank you. I am a total beginner, and I make this hat. I love it.
I come back to this video every time I decide to make a beanie! it’s the most helpful tutorial! thank you for that
I just made this, took me a few hours but it was imo beginner friendly. The only thing I did differently is 7 rows after I finished increasing instead of 10.. then the 4 rows of the ribbed design and it came out perfect ❤
Great tutorial, so easy to follow. And I love the landscapes yarn. Scarves and hats turn out so beautifully with it.
Amazing simple pattern very well explained!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I am making it for my mom, she will love it!!!! Greetings from Vancouver!
This is by far the best beanie hat tutorial out there! Being a beginner, I could follow the tutorial with ease and I did make my first beanie!!! ❤️ Great job , love the video!
This IS SO EASY to follow. Your VIDEO was PERFECT. Thank you
Best super simple yet creative beanie pattern I’ve seen.

I absolutely love this tutorial! I struggle so much with patterns or other videos. I've been able to follow you with no issues!
This tutorial was outstanding. I'm about to go see what others you have done!
Thanks you it's my 1st crochet project and turned out awesome!!!! Thank you again
idk what i did wrong but mine is not curving at all its like a mat totally flat
Same, I think the stitches are just not tight enough, because I have done this before and it turned out perfectly
@@danielle5355 You might be increasing when you shouldn't. Count the number of stiches after each round where you need to increase. I think that here we're supposed to go 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. Good luck!
this is probably the best tutorial i’ve watched
I love the ribbing done this way. It's beautiful and simple. And I appreciate the detailed demonstration that made it easy to understand. I did it today on a beanie I made and I love it!
Hi. Beginner here! I like the video the up close shots and how well you go over things. The beanie is big. I even reduce the last two rows. But I am glad it was have to make it.
@Martha Johnson Haha.. Yes, very big. Trying to find another beanie that I make, an easy one.
@Martha Johnson Thanks!! Will do. I just started so trying to build up confidence.
Love this pattern so much! Just made my first one and I’m so happy with the outcome! Thank you!
I have been trying to follow this and looks so nice, neat and it's perfect beanie for a Barbie doll right now.
I’ve made so many of these for gifts I don’t even need the method anymore! Tysm!
Best tutorial I’ve done made a beanie in a couple hours 😍
I used bigger yarn and mine turned out to look like jolly the green giants beanie LOL I think I make it into a pillow.
But yes great video, easy to follow.
Made this yesterday, accidentally with that exact yarn and it turned out awesome!
What was the yarn?
Found the yarn used at the beginning of the video!!
