HUGE Response To Fire In High-rise Building - Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service

- Here is some responses and on-scene footage from a fire in a high-rise building in Salford. When crews arrived on scene they found the bin room alight and extinguished it. The smoke traveled to the 14th floor activating this response.

After a few years of been a bit shy with their lighting on the appliances it now looks like they have gone a bit OTT! Great video.
Great shot of the hydrant operation and the pump operator’s panel. I’m a bit surprised at the small diameter supply line.
The reason for the delayed turn out of the second pump can be for a number of reasons, the main one being dual crewing whereby the crews have to interchange and all down to financial cuts. Another being that equipment may have been off the appliance for maintenance, as it very often is and needed replacing. Plus such mundane reasons as a toilet break...they are permitted by the way or making the kitchen safe if cooking was in progress or any combination of the above. There are a great number of reasons but all the keyboard firefighters must have their say and you MUST listen to their the sage advice with their VAST experience of criticising whilst sat nice and snug behind their keyboards. BOLLOX to you, you numpties!

I couldn't help but notice quite a few FFs not wearing helmets. Twenty-odd years ago this was a bollockable offence in the fire brigade. Apart from the driver, every FF had to have their helmet on from the moment they left the station 'til the moment they returned. How times have changed.

No health and safety has changed there are risk associated with wearing your helmet on the run. It’s just we understand more about the risk now and as such is a HS issue
Certainly not true of Greater Manchester where this video was filmed. I served as Sub Officer at Broughton, whose pump also attended, till 1995 when I retired and I never remember receiving nor issuing any bollockings regarding the wearing of helmets.

The reason for this response was in the wake of grenfell. A platform unit is sent to every report of a high rise fire.
High rise big fire trucks is a golden catch for almost anyone else, but in New York City, is part on monthly sightings, and they look really awesome aside of Hazmat fire truck, MCI Ambulance, Police SWAT van and bomb squads.
That old volvo pump sounds awesome think my brother drove that a few times im his 30 year service .
Looking at the darkness out I'd think that they were woken up which would explain the delay. Please don't bash firefighters! Their job is incredibly hard.
I suspect in the first clip the alp and 2nd machine are dual crewed, a stupid idea and seems to take an age to swap gear from one machine to the other, attendance times have all but gone for a shit now has turnout times also. Nice to see an alp turn out to a job, recall a few years back a shout at a station near me PDA of 2 pumps and tl, both pumps went, tl pulled onto forecourt and driver monitored ch21 as it was back then, when oic put a stop message in the tl booked in attendance! reversed back in and when the pumps arrived back booked close home station!

@@TurnerN4tor500 A HP has 2 fixed booms that do not extend, and the basket is stowed behind the vehicle. An ALP has 3 extending booms, and the basket is stowed behind the cab. An ALP has permanently fixed ladders attached to each boom too.

I’ve seen honey drip out of a jar quicker than what they did coming out of the station. I didn’t see much urgency and it seemed a little sporadic too.

Also they may not of been frist due. They could of been sent to back up one on scence already checking out the AFA.

It seems a disjointed fire service. How come they are all wearing different uniforms and the appliances are all different types. I thought everyone needs to look the same and the vehicles similar so you know where stuff is on other vehicles. Not having a dig just curious
you do realise GMFRS have two tunics, the bage one fore firefighting and the orange one for everything else. who gives two flying fucks about the applisnces anyway, some might be reserve etc
Uniforms are mix n match so are the appliances. Its meant to all be the same for safety and equipment reasons no?

The second pump & the TL from the Manchester Central station were very slow to move out of the station. There was a comment earlier on why so many machines were sent out in the wake of Grenfell, so you would have thought there would have been a bit more urgency in getting out.

Paul T and just how long have you got in? Certainly not long enough to realise that on a night shift there are no other staff on station to ensure all is secure and the kitchen made safe plus swapping gear due to jump manning (which is why they responded together) and any other number of mundane reasons, some of them way beyond your comprehension with such limited intellect.
