I trained there from April to June 1971, course No 131, ADO Woolmer was the training commandant, the 60ft escape ladder was heavy, spent 2 nights in Ancoats hospital with strained stomach muscles, and those trailer pumps!!!!! , Mcinties was a claustrophobic experience, loved every minute of it.

I trained there in 1970/71. We all trained on GNB 217, the escape ladder was named Big Lizzie and boy was she heavy. Lot of familiar faces in the video. Best fire station in the world.

Oh come on Sam it's 'increase pressure' in training not 'more power'. That you cannot have forgotten. Besides that 'give it some welly' was far more common. 😂

Brings back.lots of fond memories it feels like it was only yesterday when i trained there in Oct 73 and then was stationed tbere working through my probation period and then spending many years turning out to a variety of incidents driving the pumps and operating the hydraulic platform on high rise buildings.I even recollect the firemans strike off 77 and all the kind people walking past donating food and drinks while we shivered under that picket tent at the front entrance what a Fantastic building will always be a part of me .

A firefighter’s PPE is a uniform. Uniform means of one form, i.e., to all look the same. And their turnout gear looks pretty uniform to me. Most soldiers have three to four uniforms, ranging from combat dress, working dress, service uniform to their number ones - their ceremonial uniform. So if a soldier’s camouflage gear is classed as a uniform then you can bet a firefighter’s turnout gear most certainly is.
