Chester sure was nice enough guy, but his band was super cheesy. Now Incubus can now be lumped in with early-mid 90s bands. As can The Strokes and Silversun Pickups. If he killed himself in an attempt to be included with the greats who died young? It didn't work.

I saw Filter open for White Zombie in 1995. They were unknown. Richard came out with a cast and sat down. "We're Filter if anyone gives a shit". Sang. Got super pissed at everyone. Was pissed at the crowd because nobody was really paying attention. Threatened to stop the show about 6-7 times... then left. That's when I became a fan.

Filter and helmet had a feel to them that I didn't see in stp or Cornell, not that they were bad but these guys nailed grunge in an energetic way.
