The riff that never gets old
Richard Patrick tells us that this song hit like a bolt of lightning. Here's the story:
"'Hey Man, Nice Shot' was the 'aha moment,' where you're like, 'That was so easy.' Coming up with the riff and chorus was one of those things like, 'Well, how the f--k hasn't anyone ever done this?' Like, in the last 500 years of music, how in the hell has someone never just pieced this together? Because it makes so much sense, such a perfect little never-ending riff that you could just play forever and ever and ever and it would never get old.
He MAN good RIFF.
EVER!
This song will still kick ass 100 years from now.
thats why i say hey man nice shot.
@@TrevorHamberger good shot, man
This song will stick in my heart and head long after I'm gone.
Agreed.
you do know what the song is about right?
Rest in Peace Bud Dwyer.
Yes, Lulu, A Sad Way To Clear His name When rational Means Would Not
Much better than the radio single version
RIght? Super curious as to where this version came from.
There was a commercial break in the song‼️Not cool🚫😎
I couldn't have said that better myself, man.
I love this mix version WAAAY better than the original! And that's saying a lot because I love the original like crazy!🤟🏿

Other than live, this is by far, the best versiion I've heard so far.
How about now?
the long version is so atmospheric
The best part of a solo road trip. Hot summer night. Driving on the with windows down. Blasting this track.
Filter from CLEVELAND...drive the Lakeshore frwy with Nice Shot blasting across Lake Erie to Canada. Natural high
Nice song to listen to when you are depressed and or moody.
or suicidal.
Anyone here ever hear of Bud Dwyer ? Well that's what this song is about ! A live suicide on national television ! RIP Bud....
I wish I would have met him, now it's a little late...
A couple facts... as the state treasurer, he uncovered unlawful uses of money by the governor, for example, the governor used state police to transport his children to boarding school, or something of that nature. Budd committed suicide because, had he been convicted in a corruption scandal involving a contract (who could say whether he was innocent or set up), his family wouldn't have received his pension. Because he died before the trial went on, they received it.
Filter should have stayed hard like this. Crowning achievement.
Thank you Altdan still have my vinyl of this. Amazing now 2023
man that riff is so sick
finally i found the uncensored version of this song
you can say that its the unfiltered version huh
That's why I say nice shot
there's a censored version...?
Aria Britton yeah, the US and UK release of this version (called Big Mac instead of Full Extension) has “early ending” and “gun” edited out. The uncensored version was released in Germany and Australia.
😏🔥💨
Frank Cavanaugh (currently Sgt. Cavanaugh, serving overseas in the army) was the original bass player, and in my opinion, the man who put the 'bad-ass' in the driving bass spine of this song. Checkout the videos from Filter going overseas for the USO, and getting joined by Sgt. Cavanaugh on stage for playing this song in front of the troops.
I saw "Budd" take that shot on TV in 1986. Even adults can be driven to suicide by Bullying and False Statements.
Tick tock is in my conscious mind. ..
Truth that I'd like everyone to take to heart. Poor Bud.
What comes to mind these days on the topic of false-accusations are the little chicks who think its fine to cry rape when in fact all that happened was
a few too many non-cohersed drinks a little drunken consensual fun.
Budd was guilty tho
lasyke3 actually he was innocent...supporting evidence came out a while back...he was a good man who got played by the same system we all get played by everyday, the government...
@@georgeducady2351 thanks
Hey man nice version! Filter is one of the heaviest bands in rock history. Take it from a veteran rockhead who has seen the following bands in concert: Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Creed, Linkin Park, Staind, Evanescence, Chevelle, Oceans ate Alaska, Aerosmith, UFO, Brian Adams and other great bands.
Robin Trower, RUSH, Journey, Bad Co, Aerosmith, Alice In Chains, Foghat, Eddie Money, Johnny Lang, Peter Frampton, Cal Jam 2, Blue Oyster Cult, Metallica, Cheap Trick and Oz Fest...
I seen them blow 2 pa’s live yes you are right filter was heavy af…mint🔥

Have you heard Meshuggah live?
Thread is gold!
Still got my vinyl after following them everywhere in the 80s
very cool version!
nice alternative to the original.
Came for the drum machine stayed for the looped feedback.
There's a documentary about Budd Dwyer, which this song is based upon, called "An Innocent Man" which is about the circumstancing leading up to his suicide and is pretty sad, I highly recommend people see it.

david johanson facts
Depending on what the 'purists' say, would probably call this Harsh Pop/Aggressive Pop. But to me as long as it's Rock and Electronic, with enough harshness, it's still Industrial.
BOOM
Im over here now
I have been looking for this version for so long...never thought the obvious place.
This song reminds me of last summer when I stayed up all night a lot and listened to this while doing it and now I'm almost tearing up of nostalgia.
Yeah it comes around shows you the best of something then takes it away
With teeth
Just completely ruins something for you
Got you shaking a fist at the sky was it better to have bitten from this apple?
4 hours of flopping around being reborn waited all my life to have a taste of it now I've been broken by it
Endless black hole of suffocation stagnated by memories of what it really ment to be alive
Like a lightning bolt trapped in a broken windshield painted by a painters brush trapped in a memory by you and one other person
I met her in a dream 3 times one night 3 months before it happened she's gone and I'll never be the same
What the hell do you mean "while doing it"?
@@Alexander-nc4vy this was one of the songs I was listening to during that time

Doing what? 😂
That is kickass, serving my ears and my country!
its been a year now and i think its going to continue to stick in my head
I hear that. There have been a few times that I've woken up to the instrumental playing in my mind. Lol
When dat bass kicks in.
Once you see it, you can never UN-see it. Just a warning man!
What can I say about this song? It's absolutely amazing and one of my all time favorites!

Hey man nice song
Love filter! hay man nice shot!
+Chris Daugherty eye agree
This is by far, the best ever version of the song.
I wish I would've met you
Now it's a little late
What you could've taught me
I could've saved some face
They think that your early ending
Was all wrong
For the most part, they're right
But look how they all got strong
That's why I say
Hey man nice shot
What a good shot man
Thats why I say
Hey man nice shot
What a good shot man
A man has gun
Hey man, have fun
Nice shot
Now that the smoke's gone
And the air is all clear
Those who were right there
Got a new kind of fear
You'd fight and you were right
But they were just too strong
They'd stick it in your face
And let you smell
What they consider wrong
That's why I say
Hey man nice shot
What a good shot man
Thats why I say
Hey man nice shot
What a good shot man
A man has gun
Hey man, have fun
Nice shot
A man has gun
Nice shot man
Hey, nice shot man
I wish I would've met you
I wish I would've met you

Thanks for posting this song, becau *BANG!* thump....
Why isn't this version on spotify and if it is I can't find it!!!
I'm no expert but I believe it has to do with something of either money or rights. some songs especially extended or additional release have special copyright protections. (Have you viewed how many companies get paid every time this song gets played the list is at least 11 plus for one song)
@@willt1443 Interesting.
It makes sense that Filter would want to try and make more money off of the single. I like this song but they're sort of sellouts.
The beginning is epic o_o
“Steven I’m open!!! FEED ME THE ROCK!!!”
Sniper Elite 5! "That's why they call me ELITE"!
Filter...Cleveland I hear you
Hey man greaaat song. -rip budd
this is what our government will do too honest people....he had no choice and he did it live on tv
It is what your society does to people. Stop blaming the government for everything.
Jostipi you must not live in the states or have an understanding for what really goes on in office.
Samuel Sullivan Oh I do understand.
Jostipi I don't own any society either
Samuel Sullivan How do you mean?
I never heard of his story. I watched 4:43 of color version bud dwyer's speech and then the uncensored end. I know the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem word for word (lots of americans do not-they don't care) and this made cry 1-2 tears. I'm a 37 yr old grown man. Nice to see politicians smoking on tv when we were a free country too. Like how the witnesses recanted and his wife was burried at his side-never remarried. Nationalism>capitalism
Fascism is the only thing that can save us from a really shitty future

im making a halo montage this year - this is definitely gonna be the song!
sounds like ya got a lil trent in there. i like
Absolutely FKN love this version of the song ! Windows up foot to the floor “ LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO !!!!!
This song confused me for a long time, not because I was unaware of Budd Dwyer's suicide, but just because of the vocals - It sounds like the chorus, where he sings "A man has gun.....NICE SHOT!", is actually "Hey man, nice goin'.....NICE SHOT!", and the part where he ACTUALLY sings "That's why I say: Hey man, nice shot" goes "That's why I'm saving the nation...." So until I started paying closer attention to the verses, I thought it was a song about one of those shooters who decides they're an angel of death and their choice to kill OTHERS -not themselves (necessarily)- is somehow "mericful".....
I thought it was "That's why I'm saving damnnation" and Aaaaamen that's good, Amen, that son - likes ya!"
I understand why you were confused. lol Wow that would've been horrible if that were the case.
Its the designating link belt that did it.
Well, i heard this Song, From this Movie Soundtrack " Demon Knight " From Tales from the Cyrpt The Movie's, and It's Suits With the Movie's too !!! It's about Bud Dwyer
david johanson all the drums for this album were programmed lol
What version is this available from? I've been looking for a full quality version of this tune without the vocals for something.
It's from the 'Hey Man Nice Shot' CD single.
This version should've been in Short Bus, not the castrated version.
Demon Knight.
This is not a extended version. Its just the Big Mac remix
Who knows the history behind this song
@KayoteThunder Or working out?
singer is actor robert patrick's brother
@xXStrWbrrYsToneXx glad to hear similar opinion. I was home on a snow day when it happened, watching tv. I'll never forget it. And not only did he not bow....he risked what some may consider damnation for his family. I don't condone suicide, but if there is a God...I hope Budd gets a pass.
Richard Patrick s still the shit!
It was a nice shot because of the training 8 days before the the shot.tired As hell who can shoot.
