The year is 1994. I'm 13 years old. It's after midnight and I'm watching Headbangers Ball on MTV. This video came on and I missed the name of the band. When the synth came in I was immediately hooked. It was the coolest thing I've ever heard. Halfway through this video I heard the garage door open--my parents were coming home. I immediately turned off the TV and ran to bed. Several months later it was my birthday and my sister bought me a tape. It was NIN. I had no idea who they were. I started listening on my walkman and loved everything I heard. Then March of the Pigs came on! I immediately recognized it several months later. I will never, ever forget that feeling. It was the song that hooked me on NIN and MotP still remains my favorite NIN song. \m/

RIP James Woolley, who lived right across from my Mom and I for years until his death. He's on keys here, toured with them around this time... dude was so nice and encouraging towards me and my little high school band and never name-dropped NIN or anything. He was offering to get me and my buddies in his studio and jam/record with us and then he just unexpectedly died. Such a cool dude. This is such a great video using the live audio here rather than the album version!

A great example of all the things that made NIN interesting.
    The aggressive punk-style drumming.
The confrontational metal/hard rock of the guitar.
The sexy dancey industrial elements with the keyboards, drum machines and synths.
There's a reason why just about everyone from any scene loved this band.

This isn't rehearsal footage at all for the tour. This is the actual music video itself stylised like a rehearsal video - because the band are playing live just like a rehearsal. The played the song 16 times in a row and picked the best performance. Trent Reznor talks about this when he guest host RAGE in early 2000's.

It was 10 times better than any show I’ve ever seen, & I’m not even a big fan. They went absolutely nuts (similar to this video), he smashed so many keyboards, so much equipment, tossing the mic stand (the drummer has been hospitalized for being hit in the head with it), plus he grabbed the curtain when they first came out, lifted himself 10 feet in the air, and dropped all the way to the stage floor (I couldn’t believe he could walk). To a kid from VA, in middle school, it was the awesomest thing I’d seen, & didn’t feel contrived. It felt exciting like going to an old punk rock show. We had such a BLAST!

She went into the station to get a Redbull, and Chad Kroeger of Nickleback was there talking to a very young girl, under 16 for sure. My ex listened briefly and heard him invite her to a party that night, to which she responded, "Oh my god, amazing, I would love to but let me ask my parents first!" and then she bolted from the store presumably looking for her parents. Kroeger was spooked, so he bolted from the store just as fast, got into a sport's car and left.

    Released: February 25, 1994
    [Verse 1]
    Step right up, march, push
Crawl right up on your knees
    Please, greed, feed
    (No time to hesitate)
    [Pre-Chorus]
    I want a little bit

    I think he's losing it
I want to watch it come down
Don't like the look of it
Don't like the taste of it
Don't like the smell of it
I want to watch it come down
    [Chorus]
All the pigs are all lined up
I give you all that you want
Take the skin and peel it back
Now doesn't it make you feel better?
    [Verse 2]
Shove it up inside, surprise, lies
Stains like the blood on your teeth
    Bite, chew, suck
    (Away the tender parts)
    [Pre-Chorus]
I want to break it up
I want to smash it up
I want to fuck it up
I want to watch it come down
    Maybe afraid of it
    Let's discredit it
    Let's pick away at it
I want to watch it come down
    [Chorus]
All the pigs are all lined up
I give you all that you want
Take the skin and peel it back
Now doesn't it make you feel better?
    [Outro]

Now they can all sleep soundly
    And everything is alright

I got the Closure 2 set VHS set on my 11th Christmas, it was a long time ago! I remember getting it handed to me and just being in awe that such a thing could exist! (the box art looked top notch) and i went off into my room for the night.
This video brings back the memories as i must have watched it a zillion times. I remember seeing Happiness in Slavery for the first time and being shocked, had to show it to my pals and leme say it was heavy lol!
Thanks to ultra violence it was a good x-mas

I remember watching this video on MTV when it first came out. I already loved NIN but when I saw this I was like "Holy fucking shitballs"! I ran out and bought this CD soon as it came out. Listening to the downward spiral on headphones to this very day is one of the most moving and intense music experiences of my entire life. The ambient layers and overall sound design created something unmatched to this very day. This album is a masterpiece. To be honest, every single NIN album is. Trent Reznor is one of my true artistic heros.

I've been watching this a lot and l the way Trent forces his supporting performers to play frantically because he is *physically bullying* them is brilliant. He managed to do that in a single take without screwing any of them up lmao
