We had an adopted Beagle Maggie who lived to 17 . We were both blessed. The hardship of loosing her was one of the worst pains I’ve ever had to deal with. While I tried to convince myself to wait a year before getting another…..well something just happened and BOING I found a perfect little girl. We have always adopted dogs and we spend loads of money on animal rescues. In fact we helped with that big Beagle rescue of thousands of dogs from lab testing. That simply makes my blood boil. Now it’s been maybe 45 years since I’ve had a puppy. OH BOY! Yep you nailed it. You can’t let a piece of paper hit the floor without her chewing it. Oh boy the joys of puppy teeth . Her breeder was absolutely WONDERFUL! She’s helped us so much. This along with these type videos are helpful to say the least. The breeder named her Roudy Girl. For a reason . We kept Roudy but it’s now Roudy Piper. Pure AKC registered . Parents are simply beautiful with a great temperament . The biggest problem is getting her crate trained as she is SOOO attached to me but we’re slowly making progress. Frozen soup marrow bones are the very best baby sitter. She has a plethora of toys. Big back yard to run free. I walk her everyday and my wife will try to as well. We’ve been able to socialize her and that’s going well. She’s a smart but sassy one. 3 months old now and she’s pretty good at commands of come, sit, stay , paw and roll over. A little help with a few. She knows potty. Fortunately she is HIGHLY treat motivated. All I ever use is freeze dried liver treats. She about jumps out of her skin for them. So many mistakes we made with Maggie but then again she was around 7 when we got her. Abused and we just wanted to spoil her, which we did. We did keep her in good health and regular visits to the vet. Now Roudy doesn’t and never will get table scraps or anything besides her kibble and liver treats. She’s loaded with energy as all are but. She sleeps through the night at least. Thank you for an informative video. Sorry this comment turned into a novel 😂
Beagles are wonderful ❤ I have had beagles my entire life and never had an aggressive beagle - always wonderful companions. Beagles are used in research labs in the US and around the world -- they endure painful experiments and life in a steel cage. Please speak up for Beagles ❤
Please support the Beagle Freedom Project which works to close labs that test on beagles and then re-home the poor dogs once testing is over, as labs will generally euthanize the test dogs after they have been used for a test. Beagles (indeed no living thing) deserves the kind of treatment lab beagles get.
Beagle is the most docile dog and i love mine so much! I really hope there's no experiments using them anymore! They deserve sleeping beside their human, walking and sniffing everyday, delicious meals and explore the wild world!
@@daniellekennedy8118 I have a son who is a scientist and it is the one thing we argue the most about. He has never worked with beagles but they have them at labs where he has worked. They use Beagles because they are the most forgiving breed. It is awful what they do to these precious dogs who only show and want love. It makes me want to go and get every single one of them but I can't.
My beagle, Dixie , we believe is 9 years old. She was found by friends and given to me after my dachshund died. She had breast cancer and heart worms. My vet has restored her health and I love her very much. She snuggles with me and sleeps a lot. We are buddies. I’m 77 and a widow. When I got her I needed her and she needed me. I love watching Oliver. I learn a lot from watching him.
I adopted my beagle from a shelter about 2 months ago. He is very sweet but extremely stubborn. He doesn't want to go for walks. He is afraid of cars, kids any loud noise. So housebreaking him has become a real chore. But I'm giving him my all!!!
My Beagle loves his bed & sometimes he seems like he doesn't want to go for a walk, but once in the forest he 's very lively & loves meeting his friends.😊
Your dog was in a loud, scarey, strange environment called a shelter. Each dog is different some can take up to 6 months to decompress from that situation. You have only had your dog 2 months. Let your dog learn to trust you and feel safe in your home before you can expect them to be comfortable trying new things like walks in the world with strange new smells and sounds and no one likes loud noises!
I tell my beagle the words for different sounds and things she notices. You see the kitty? You see the doggy? Say hi. You see the big truck? Big truck, get back. When I feed her I have her sit. When I open doors I'll tell her to get back. I'll tell her "good girl" bout 20 times a day. It's amazing how many people at the dog park dont say anything to their dogs except yell their names and random long monologues where the dog has no idea what the owner is saying. Speak to your dog, provide small treats (even his food), you can lead him around the house a little for practice and make sure they are happy experiences. Just make sure he's loved. Everything will work out. Cesar Milan videos are great
We got our Beagle from a farm where AKC ones are bread at 8 weeks. She gave us a run for our money and is beautiful. She does have a mind of her own and we had to keep all doors closed. She is 6 months now, still biting a little, very loveable, loves to play and always begging for people food which we do not give her. We are older but would not give her up for anything. Love u Sunshine.🌞🌞❤
I will give male beagle free but now he got injured but happyly recovering fast playing eating everything fine I think 1 year or above I don't know age n name few days back rescued near my house if interested I will give sir
Dolly is our third beagle. They are sweet and kind and each one is different. Wonderful family dogs! If you have a fenced yard you might want to concrete where the fence touches the ground. They love to show friends how to escape. Dolly is a rescue found wandering around a farm. She was skinny and hungry. She was a breeder and probably spent most of her life in a cage. When she cries it is the saddest thing you could ever hear. I can see her doing that and no one ever coming to help her. So, her teats hang down and strangers think she is pregnant or nursing but no, she was a mom to way too many litters. Now she is our baby and after 3 years with us, I can't imagine a life without her.
Dolly is blessed to have such a loving, caring home with you. My beagle Bella is four now, and I can't imagine my life without her either. Beagle love is the best. Have a wonderful life with Dolly.
My first beagle. She is 2.5 years old. She is my baby! Spoiled, rambunctious, curious, likes to snuggle, stubborn but sweet, noisy, never met a stranger and keeps me on my toes. She is beautiful (red, heavily ticked, white and brown). Sending a huge thank you to her previous owner for choosing me to raise her!
Ben is the first Beagle we own. 2 previous dogs were Jack Rusells, which were characters in themselves. However they did not prepare us for a beagle. Bought as a pup in 2008, he proved himself to be an escape artist. When he was fully grown he would open the back door and let himself out to do his business. Soon learned by rattling the locked utility room door that the key in the faulty lock would jiggle the lock open. He can open most doors baring the lounge and den. If by 6:30pm if he is not fed he will out stare you until he is fed. If food is out he will look at it then you indicating "I'll have some if that". Don't mention walk, unless you are prepared to take him out. Of course if the weather is bad you get a look of are you serious I'm not going out in that, but is also capable of "saying" whats wrong it's only rain. After 15 years we wouldn't be without him.
We had a beagle Jack Russell mix. He was the best boy. Now we have another beagle. Both so sweet and good boys. Had hunters tell me the best hunting dogs they had were beagle/Jack Russell mix.
I have my third rescue beagle. They have all been over 7 years old and have been a joy! I need a dog who’s child friendly and all three have been that and more! They love everyone and other dogs as well. My first dog, when I was five, 68 years ago was a beagle. Then my brother got a dachshund and we continued to have them over the years even when I was married. After the loss of our last dachshund, we decided to rescue and I decided to try a beagle. My husband and I have been sold on them and in rescuing ever since!!!💗💗💗
Yep, I am a beagle lover. Had 4 beagle puppies at one time. It was a challenge to say the least! It was like a 3 year old daycare with 20 kids and only me! LOL! Such sweet dogs I’ll forever love them. Yes, they are very stubborn at times!!
My beagle taught me a lot of patience, it's been the best experience having a beagle at my home. She can sit and I can get her to shake for me. She's got a nose and she thinks everything that's in a bag is for her. We got her when she was 7 years old from an old woman that had died and at first I wasn't very nuts about her, but now there's an umbilical cord between me and her and she brings me and my girlfriend and my parents a lot of happiness and joy. She has become quite the verbal talker too and she's not afraid to bark to let you know that she needs to go outside to pee or that she wants something to eat. ❤
Mine is too. As soon as the phone rings. She's up on her feet and looking for things to get in too. Much like a toddler, when mom's on the phone. But I love her. LOL
My beagle Mr Dexter is fantastic. Had one as a child so when I retired six years ago I had to have another. Came from a rescue centre abs took a while to settle. They had tried six times to rehome him but everyone gave up. Made me more determined to have him. He is loving and very active. Lots of walks so 17kg at 13. The best companion ever. Far preferable to my ex spouse!
We rescued a six year old Beagle in 2021 and he is the best dog! We had him neutered and soon after he was so good. Never tries to leave the yard, even though he easily can. He is best friends with Jill, our big American Bull Dog, we all work from home and he is never lonely. We live near a big river and loves running along the riverbank!
I rescued a beagle mix from a shelter a few months ago. He certainly loves to sniff and eat. I am training him and it's kind of difficult to get him not to pull on the leash especially on the way down for a walk, jump at elevators, and react to other dogs. He is a sweetie though. Good with people and some dogs. Sometimes I walk him on a long leash so he can explore.
Hi, I have a rescue beagle who was used in a puppy farm. I acquired her when she was 7 years old and didn't know she was a dog. She was in good condition but had never had love or any sort of attention. Maggie is very gentle full of love and very stubborn. I have taught her many commands and she learns easily (when she feels like it) She loves to play with my Shih Tzu. I found her to be very difficult to train but she now responds to many commands. She is now a very well rounded dog who is very loving with me and I with her.
Hi! Beagle owner here. Have to say "good advice". Zora is typical. We are over 65 yoa so we're not always keeping up. She's a beautiful puppy and did well in puppy class. Like you said, don't forget the training. After she's spayed soon, we plan on dog parks and day care. She's 6 mo now. Love her to death, loves to run in the yard, but she bites when she plays with our other older dog. Peppy is 8. Unfortunately when biting starts, we separate them. I've had several beagles in my lifetime and loved each one tremendously. They fill my heart with happiness. Yes, find a beagle, and keep your eye on them!!
I've had beagles most my life And find there is no better breed to have as a companion. They love children... play... and are loyal to their owner. Mine is a princess and loves compliments and praise.
My beagle is a sweetheart, rarely barks, loves to snuggle and follows me around while I'm home. Whenever I work on my car she always goes inside expecting a ride. Whenever I sit on the bench she jumps beside me, brushes her head on my side and lean. Gentle and playful with kids, not aggressive to other dogs. Knows some tricks too. As much as I can afford I take her outside to the park to play with other dogs or visit my relatives. Right now I'm training her to walk off-leash around our compound.
Aw you see my beagle came from a abisive family so when I saw the family beating him. I waited for the family to go inside and i untied him and took him called the cops and etc I asked them if I can keep him I took him to the vet the same day for his shot and etc other than that he’s a good dog still training him he’s a good dog 🥰
Our rescue beagle had the beagle beat out of him.😢 Took a year before he would sit by our feet or get near you if you had anything in your hand and wouldn't bark. However he not only got his voice. He was bossy, persistent and loving. Unfortunately he had to be put down due to old age and health issues just recently. He had 11 great years with us though! ❤
Haha!! I've been saying that about my beagle for 11 years. 🤣 This past year he almost died and gave me a genuinely FRESH pain in the ass. SADNESS LIKE IVE NEVER KNOWN. He's currently snoring under a pile of blankets on the floor so no worries, but geeeeeez.....🐶
Always had large dogs (rottweilers, ridgebacks, shephards, etc) Thought I would HATE having a small dog, but my daughter wanted a beagle.... I tethered the dog to me for potty training... Now, the darn dog never leaves my side... and I love the thing. Who knew? Great, spunky little dog. A slave to her nose....
We adopted a 6 year old male beagle last fall and he can be quite destructive, to say the least. He had always been an outdoor kennel dog previous to us adopting him. He's adapting pretty well, overall, but he has separation anxiety and destroys his bedding whenever we have to go somewhere and have to crate him. 4 beds so far, at least 10 fleece blankets, and I don't know how many towels! He's also chewed through 2 harnesses. He was bred for field trials, but he's too tall by AKC standards, plus he's gun shy. On the plus side, he's very entertaining and affectionate and we love him to pieces! ❤❤❤
My Beagle Beau is now 16 years old. A very old lady still going strong. I have had a lot of dog and different breed. We trained her well and till today she is a lovely dog. Easy in handling well social and still naugthy when on search for food we lover her very much.
Yes beagle is a wonderful companion, i trained my beagle in her young age she never destroy anything in our house thats why im thankful to have a beagle. During pandemic me and my husband do camping until now, we tried to go in riverside camping because our beagle loves to swim ❤.
We've had 4 beagles in 25 years, two pairs of two. The 3rd one got very sick three years ago and we had to put him down. Now the 4th and last one is 15 and not likely to be with us much longer. He was a BRAT and probably more food obsessed than any of the other three, but he was a very special, lovable boy, and we still miss him. I never thought I would cry so much over a dog. Their personalities can be very different. One can love to go for walks and get very excited at the word, while the other one goes and hides and then drags his feet. They are all clown dogs, and absolutely food obsessed. I made a clock once with 8 at all hour positions, and labeled it "Beagle feeding time is 8:00." They love their blankets, just like little kids (smaller, dog blankets). I'm convinced Charles Schultz had a beagle, but confused Linus for Snoopy. One of our beagles would drag blankets all over the house in his mouth, and then steal blankets from the other beagle. Then he would drag his bed up on the couch, and then all of the blankets he had stolen. They absolutely will get on top of their dog house or anything else about that height, just like Snoopy. The remaining beagle we have now has always just covered herself with a blanket no matter the time of year, and then she will jump down to go to the kitchen to get for food, and walk all through the house draped in her blanket, and even go outside with it. She chewed holes in every sheet, blanket, bed comforter we had, and my wife's underwear! She's a garbage eater and a poop eater. She had eaten Q-TIPS out of the bathroom trash that got stuck sideways at the other end and had to be removed by the vet. So we have to keep all trash bins up high, or covered and weighted in the bottom so she can't drag them over. She will still sometimes try and shred the edge of the bag hanging out that she can get a bite on. She's getting where she just sleeps most of the time, but she will still get up and run to the kitchen to beg for the smell of any meat cooking. She's always been more lazy about where she drops one, but she's getting worse in her old age, and especially when it's -5 or snow on the ground outside.
@@thecagdot So much more I could write after 25 years with these dogs, but only so much time in my day! My late MIL was a breeder, and these dogs as puppies were gifts to our boys when they were younger. We also have now the toy people that my in-laws adopted from a shelter, and we inherited caring for when they were both gone. We don't know what our next dogs(s) will be other than that we will adopt them from a shelter or the local Humane Society. I would like to get a bigger dog now that we have a bigger house and bigger yard, but we'll see.
Thank you for this video..we have 4 months old beagle and he's very active and smart.. your right he needs proper training with your video is a big help to us
I have my second Beagle ,the 1st i had to let go because off cancer. I had him for 13 years. We named him Ozzy, this one i called Iggy, and yes after the rock stars. As far as i'm concerned it fits them well😅😂 But i just love Beagles there so sweet, funny,Joy and playfull. There youre best friend❤❤❤❤
I'm a very happy beagle mix dad. My new pup is currently 13 weeks old. No kidding on having a mind of his own. No matter his temperament he's learning the basics. From play time with the big boys ( larger dogs) he wrestles with his 2 yr old Labrador cousin and Chase's his sister a 2 yr old Strafford shire dog around the back yard. His favorite chew toys are stuffed tigers and squeaky toys he's adapted very well with cats too. My pup loves car rides and walks too. Going to do my best to be there for my puppy and be a great dad too. My pup is a real blessing ❤. Especially since my family took it pretty hard after losing our first dog Snoopy in November of 2023. Snoopy reached the age of 16 years Our new puppy came to us as a stray our family named him peanut after the charlie Brown characters as a whole. Just like the cartoon. He brings us joy and smiles and his special treats 💩 that leaves us looking like this 😲😳.
This is my second beagle he has a service puppy in training just as my other beagle was a service dog unfortunately I lost him due to cancer earlier this year both my beagles I loving kind and caring dogs and they love everyone I use a beagle as a service dog for the nose because I have a lot of brain injuries some people do not understand why I use a beagle and not everyone will agree
Our loki is 4 he has brought so much personality to our home. He’s stubborn he’s very vocal he loves everyone can’t go a day without his walk loves treats but they are limited lol. And to all who are thinking of loving one pls pls if your not consistent or patient or hate cuddling or being followed around DONT invest in one.
Same here. Mine saved me from a bad place in my life. Very first dog and she kept me busy and her constant affection and attention is what I needed in my life.
I just received my Bella about two weeks ago. She will be 13 weeks old Sunday. She is a typical beagle puppy 😂. We are working on training her to eventually work as my psychological service dog. It's a process that takes on average 2 years. You have to start them as puppies.😊
My bagle is sweet loving nice and has never met a stranger. However he’s stubborn but smart at the same time loved outside and cuddling/kissing/hugging But bc his teeth are STILL coming in he loved biting and his chew toys. He’s great with other dogs/people the dog hasn’t ever met a steamer period.
They are not stubborn. Yes, they need training as do all dogs, but they are hounds bred to think for themselves in the field. Fit training to the dog. Indeed, they are foodies, so watch their waistlines. Avoid allowing your Beagle to get fat or too thin. They are great hounds! My remaining last Beagle is a 5 min foster fail pocket Beagle who cares for himself if he’s sick: decreased his activity so I knew something was wrong: IVDD, crate/prednisone. Fully recovered. He’s a brave, older Beagle.
I missed the opportunity to get my youngest beagle socialized. Not because I didnt want to, but because here in the city there are very few dog parks that are membership only that require a monthly fee to visit. I often have to break the law and let my dogs off the leash in large parks so I can get them to get their exercise, but thankfully people are somewhat understanding of them since they're friendly dogs...that and they usually just stay hidden in bushes looking for squirrels and what not while Im babysitting them. Im getting old and its hard for me to keep up with them, so thats the best way for me to get them to stay in shape, just let them chase rabbits and deer for a few hours every other day.
I love my beagle! He was found in 2016 on the roadside, bloody and thin. He was cleaned and fed by finder, fostered by a couple that does beagle rescue, then adopted by my son, then by me. Veterinarian said at the time he estimated the dogs age to be around 7 years old; I've had him half his life.
We have had five beagles. They have each had personalities that are all their own. They agree on one thing. They are smart and bored easily and when they are bored, they get into trouble. At the same time, we have loved each one enormously. Each has lived to 16-17. One let us know she was ready to take over running the household should we ever wish to relinquish control. Another wasn't really a beagle, a golden retriever in disguise as a beagle. We could let her off the leash and she never got very far from us, very unusual for a beagle. Our latest one has the middle name of Diana the Huntress. She has a very strong prey drive and regularly brings dead rabbits and chipmunks into the house through the dog door. Not so nice. But, when she snuggles with me at night, I forgive her for everything. Because of their breeding, they are encouraged make decisions away from the handlers, and they do. They are not retrievers who are bred to come back to you and make you happy. Fortunately, they are quite food motivated so that makes them easier to train. They are basically stubborn and independent-minded and that fits our family persona. We don't have kids, but I will say they all have been great with kids. Not great guard dogs because everyone is instantly their best friend. A great dog or we wouldn't have had five!
I unfortunately had to put my best friend down on the 3rd of January 2023, definitely not the way I hoped to start the new year. He was such a great boy, he saved my life, and I saved his. I miss my boy. Thanks…
David, I'm so sorry to hear that you had to say goodbye to your best friend. It's very hard and the heartbreak is tremendous. As I am writing this to you, my beagle is snoozing next to me, and I can't imagine being without him. You are strong and your dog loved you and the life you and he shared. Prayers for you both my friend. 🐾🐾💜
All true and super beagle advice. We have 4 now (ages 11 to 14)., but at a time we had 7 (ages1 to 11. The greatest advice is to give them love and play with them A LOT! It’s good for you and the pack. We are blessed to care for such curious, stubborn and loving hounds. BEAGLES NOW AND FOREVER! Kelly K 💗🐾🦴🌭🩷
My beagle is the pickiest eater! She only like chicken and vegetables. Won’t touch anything else except bones. She hates every treat I’ve tried and all dog food. I got her to eat fresh pet for about a week but it gave her room clearing gas! We cook chicken and different veggies every few days. She also like eggs and bacon for breakfast!
Strider (Lemon Beagle) will turn 3 soon! He is trained to be left alone for a few hours while my wife and I are at work. But I make sure that he gets his walks before we leave and when I get back. He loves playing fetch as well and waits patiently for our command before he eats the food we prepare for him.
Wow that's great same here me and wife go to work so as of now iam wfh but I btouaghtvthis beagle puppy of 40 days old now iam getting little worried as how to manage it you know sometimes in middle nite around 3 am it wakes up andd start barking what to do how to train for potty please give me some tips thank you
No idea why this popped in my stream....but......I have had ~25 beagles in my life. When I was child we kept a pack of them for hunting. The one thing I will say is that you should never have just one. The separation anxiety is real. At leas have a pair so they can comfort each other. We have two now and every time we leave the house you can see their faces in the sidelights by the front door. Every time we come back home their are two little girls looking to love on you.
After over 25 years of forever homing Labs, we were asked to give a Beagle a home. We did and It took over 5 years to turn him into a Lab. That's a funny, labs and Beagles share a wacked sense of humor!
We had adopted a beagle and Australian hound a little over a year ago. We have a 14 1/2 year old chihuahua/minpin and a 3-4 year old Pomeranian who are both little brats , good dogs don’t get me wrong both great dogs . I have been around dogs all of my life, and I have never met a dog, so loving, so happy, so gentle and all-around amazing until this guy came into our life‘s.
It's nearly a year ago when I lost my beloved Tommy at 11 years old. My wife and I had seven children and when the last left home they gave us a beagle. Thanks kids, giving us a perpetual teenager!!! Yes good advise. If I can add one suggestion, get pet insurance. Our Tommy had cruiciate ligament damage, epilepsy, spinal problems etc etc. We ended up getting far more back than our premiums. A lovely breed, but with a lot of problems.
Our beagle,Linus, lived to be 18 years old. The day he passed away was the same day our new beagle was born. I did not find that out until about a week prior to picking Schroeder up. We have him crate trained and he knows about potty training but he does not like the cold. Once in a while, he’ll poop outside, but he prefers to poop on the puppy pads instead. He is however peeing outside so we’re about 50-50. Today we’re gonna work on the word drop. He is the first pet to bite me. He is a very stubborn dog. Our older dog Sally plays tug and wrestling with him. They go out every two hours, at least until Schroeder is properly potty trained.
I have a going to be a year old beagle great pyrenees in Sept. He's very loving, and yes demands lots of attention. We have set a great routine with him, and when the time of day comes to go out as a family in the backyard with his bro (casper), he let's you know by getting frisky and loud barking. I look at Jordy and say, let's burn off that energy and he's the first at the door. He is truly my best friend. He tries to play with the cats, and they won't have it at times. I'll look at Jordy and say, Jordy, leave your friends alone for now, he'll turn around and walk away. He's very responsive yet has those "stubborn" moments as the video indicates. If his bowl is on the floor, he'll scrape in the floor next to it, right after eating, and we'll pick it up for him to stop that behavior cause that gets annoying. He loves his ball with treats inside, cause he'll use his nose of course to roll it to get the treats out, and it stimulates his drive. My pup had a seizure in Aug, scared the hell out of us. He's in special care with our vet. Found out his sibs get them as well but with different owners. We're loving Jordy to the fullest, and I truly can't get enough of him. ❤😊 also to mention, a very good hugger. Ive taught him to give hugs by putti g both of my hands out indicating hugs. He'll jump up and put both of his paws around my neck. ❤
I grew up with beagles and have had them my entire life. My current one is a male I got when he was 2 1/2. He has issues with behavior that I expected after talking with his previous owner. His previous owner had no clue what he was doing as far as beagle behavior is concerned. He is progressing well. I have never had an aggressive or destructive beagle.
Hi, I got my new beagle Max when he was just 34 days old. He’s now 64 days old. He’s very active, but obedience isn’t one of his strong suits 😁 He often bites my wife and my younger daughter who is just 3 years old. He runs around the house, pulling out the leaves from the plants and shredding paper with his teeth
God i love beagles, i think god did a great deal by creating them, they brought me so much joy and my love is still going strong 12 years of age! Beagles are the cure to loneliness or depression, just make alot of time for them and do what they tell you in the vid and you have a friend/partner for life!
@@AnnMarczak They are all of that for sure. My beagle (Bella) is a real cuddle bug, and yes a bit greedy. I share my cookie with her, she never shares hers with me. LOL
My beagle is 4 and she is very loving and gentle/behaved when my husband and I are present. But a real sneaky brat when left alone. She will do anything to steal food off the tables. Love her to death. Planning on getting a second beagle soon. Always wanted a pair ❤
I'm on my 5th beagle and the best! She came from our 4th that we bread and I cut her cord and she has been with me everyday since. She was easy to train, seemed like all she wanted to do was please daddy! So much personality and she loves to talk what we call beagle talk! People don't realize she's a beagle because she's a black and tan. 15 pounds of 5 years old awesome Bella! She loves to go camping to the Nascar races with my buddies, just got back from Charlotte. I'm a lucky dog owner!
Yep, I'm a Beagle Mom, my boy Jesse is a handful and my best friend. He is an indoor and outdoor boy with a massive yard to run, play and explore in. Nights are.for cuddling and when I'm at work he's indoors watching Paw Patrol or something similar, he has TONS of toys and a sister who is an American Foxhound to play with. They are quite the pair! They love hunting in the yard, watching TV and yes raiding the food pantry. Lol I put locks on my cabinets and pantry door. I was raised with Beagles and American Foxhounds so I know all the above is not only true but you have to be one step ahead of them, at all times! I can't imagine not having one of each at all times in my life.
I can add a 6th thing you should never do with a beagle: BREED them. If a female beagle has even one litter, her chances of later developing mammary tumors sky rockets. We adopted two older female beagles who'd obviously been bred many times. They each got mammary cancer. Beagles have the finest temperament! To me, they are the perfect combo of affectionate, smart, goofy, snuggly and on and on. I'll never say they are perfect. We just adopted our 9th beagle. A-roo-roo-roo, to infinity and beyond!
I've had many Beagles in my life, all females. None have been stubborn or hard-to-train. They are incredibly sweet and smart. They learn "No" easily and want to please. They are great with children and with other pets. Don't believe this silliness that Beagles are stubborn -- they are the best dogs!
My Beagle was a so sweet beagles are the best she was beautiful, friendly. We had to put her down she was 15 I miss her so much. I want another beagle .
Yes Beagles are definitely stubborn and slaves to their noses and greedy but they are friendly, mine loves people, children and other dogs (unless they are unfriendly and growl at her) She shows a lot of interest in cats but once she gets close she doesn’t quite know what to do ❤
Postulates for a perfect Beagle: 1. Spoil your beagle rotten. Hugs and smooches are good ways to do this. Ensure that the television is tuned in to their favorite programs. MeTV is a popular station that beagles love. Matlock, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Wagon Train, The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, and Columbo are programs that appeal to a beagle's sensibilities. 2. Deliver your beagle's meals in a fancy waiter-like manner by holding the dish up high with one hand. Having a cover over their food and lifting the cover in a dramatic fashion is a classy practice that your beagle will love. Elegance in the serving process is vital. 3. Serve your beagle's meals on the family couch with your beagle's dog bowl on your lap. Sing to them in a melodious voice as they regally dine. Slowly turn the bowl as needed so that the lavish breakfast/dinner you lovingly prepared is easily within their mouth's reach. Beagles like to make mealtime a dignified occurrence. 4. When you give them snacks, ensure that your Beagle is lounging on the family couch as well. The couch will soon become their personal nest of authority and privilege. The hound will be able to communicate with you in a quiet, intelligent, and understandable level. Your mental paradigms will match due to the love that you and your beagle will share. 5. Never use a crate. At the end of the day, gently carry your beagle to bed and tell them a story followed by a goodnight snuggle and smooches. If it is your bed that your beagle wishes to slumber, allow your pooch to lay down wherever he or she pleases. 6. First thing in the morning, give your beagle a belly rub, kiss his/her nose to ensure that it is cold, and say "Good morning my baby beagle". Senior Citizen beagles love being called "my baby beagle". 7. Lavish your beagle with a variety of stuffed animals so the hound can hold Board of Directors Meetings while you are at work. Remember, your beagle is both the Chairman of the Board and the CEO of your household. The common theme of all of this (hence, the Mission Statement) is YOUR BEAGLE IS THE ALL-WISE, PAMPERED HEAD OF THE HOUSEHOLD WHO WILL GIVE YOU THE BEST YEARS OF YOUR LIFE!
I got my beagle as a companion/buddy to take hunting with me. The prey drive is subjective. Never seen mine go after anything other than squirrels and rabbits. Not aggressive the way she does it she's more having a blast doing something I taught her to do. Fantastic around people and other animals.
As a beagle owner: it's true that many beagles develop obesity and epilepsy. My beagle has had obesity, but lost weight, especially after her first epileptic attacks. Also, they are prone to hearing loss. My beagle is deaf by now.
We have a beagle puppy temporary while his owners are on vacation. Geez, he is a hyperactive creature. Wakes me up at 5 a.m., does his things literally anywhere he sits or plays, including carpets and sofa, and never does that while we walk him. When playing, he bites very hard and painful and does not understand anything that may let him know that's not ok to bite that hard. He is in his teething fase and chews everything, including curtains and plants. He is not trained yet. We are kind to him and do not yell or hurt him, but he is exhausting because of his activity, biting and toilet problem. Can't wait to give him back to his owners :)
For the biting, the easiest way to stop this is to stop playing once he bites too hard and say a quiet “NO” Do this enough and he’ll quickly pick up not to bite as hard. Then anytime he does it right, praise him and offer a treat. For the Potty problem, potty training is required.
I love my 🐶 I rescued him 8 months Previous owner Crated truck driver My older dog lab mix at first took to him Than She became aggressive toward him and severely attacked him with injuries Required Total Separation Poor Joey had been on Trazadone for some time by His Vet Doctor Socialization is impossible as he feels he must be aggressive to be safe. So his contact with others in neighborhood is zero However When he goes to PetSmart for Grooming Treat He is most docile unbelievable And Is so for few days . I guess it’s because he is out numbered that he doesn’t get aggressive. At home territory however he loves the Birds Conure and Budgies hmmmm
I have a year and a half old beagle. I’ve been training since eight weeks and have had hardly any progression extreme leash, pulling, and anytime he sees another dog. He goes into animal instinct mode and ducks down and starts trying to stock the other dog, and then pause at the leash towards the other dog is hers you can or lunch at the dog, but just to play with it not to be aggressive
Get a copy of Winifred Gibson Strickland's "Expert Obedience for Dogs". There are several editions, I have the first which I find very good. Also, if you're using a harness, they're absolutely useless for leash training any dog. You need a collar, a slip collar to make them pay attention, and you have to hike the collar up behind the ears sometimes so they get the message that they mustn't pull And look for a good trainer who can come to your house and work with you and your dog. Costs $ but it's worth it.
Beagles are stubborn, but very very smart, and happy to please. But…you must be consistent. Yelling doesnt work but they ARE tuned in to your energy and tone of voice. Works best if you have more than one. Ive had 5, and everybody loves them. Pancreatitis and spine issues are common. They will eat themselves to death so secure the food, monitor their weight and walk or work them daily. Like any smart dog, you train them or they train you!
Have 3 beagles and old retired one, a rescue which I will never do again, and my little 1 year old got as a pup from a breeder of hunting beagles. They are all different personality’s. The pup,is one the best hunting beagles I ever had
My beagle is 2yrs old...he barks alot on another dogs..and its very tough to manage that time while walking and he is not foodie kind...we always feed him forcefully. 😢
Mine grew up with someone at home. I can't work from home. He can't be alone. He barks the whole time when I'm not at home. Had him for a few training lessons, toys, puzzle eat time, etc. Still no luck. I'm so tired of neighbors complaining
I adopted Prince when he was a out a year old, have had hime for a out 5 years now, he is a quiet beagle, and I have trained him on the basics(k9 good citizen test) he is spoiled rotten and we are working on his weight. He is dog aggressive towards uncut male dogs and black men( been like that since day 1) I'm trying to break him if the aggression and shave his weight down. We don't go walking everyday like we should and I have cut his food down to just 1 cup a day as he is almost 40lbs. Any help?
I enjoyed reading it, thanks for sharing 😊
I had no idea!
We've had many Beagles and never an aggressive issue. They don't seem to even care that people exist because they've got their own agenda.
You have a true an devoted companion.
Your beagle loves you unconditionally!!😅
I took on a rescue Beagle 9 months ago & he's 1 of the nicest dogs i've had in 49 yrs.Very well behaved off lead & very friendly with dogs & humans. 😊
I adopted my beagle from a shelter about 2 months ago. He is very sweet but extremely stubborn. He doesn't want to go for walks. He is afraid of cars, kids any loud noise. So housebreaking him has become a real chore. But I'm giving him my all!!!
Everyone's beagle is stubborn bro...😅 Even mine too
My Beagle loves his bed & sometimes he seems like he doesn't want to go for a walk, but once in the forest he 's very lively & loves meeting his friends.😊
Cesar Milan videos are great
They are the sweetest! ❤
Chase was 16 years old when he passed. He loved to play, we would walk for miles and socialize at our local dog park. Best dog I’ve ever had.
Sorry, Dang my beagle just died 3 weeks ago. Miss him, loud obnoxious but loving
I will give male beagle free but now he got injured but happyly recovering fast playing eating everything fine I think 1 year or above I don't know age n name few days back rescued near my house if interested I will give sir
Have had Beagles since I was a young kid. Now have number seven and have loved them all so much. They are a comfort and a joy.
My beagle is a brat! But love her more than anything in this world! ❤❤❤
My beagle is a rock star He is healthy and happy thanks for letting people know about beagles👍
I've had beagles most my life
And find there is no better breed to have as a companion.
My beagle is a fresh pain in the ass, yet I love him more than I could explain
I said the same thing about my beagle.
Me too, I have a pain in the ass beagle also, he is my best buddy
No need to explain! MIne is such a brat but he is the just the sweetest puppy.
Beagles : The most BEAUTIFUL dog in the whole world!!!🐶🐶💗💕
Always had large dogs (rottweilers, ridgebacks, shephards, etc)
Thought I would HATE having a small dog, but my daughter wanted a beagle....
I tethered the dog to me for potty training... Now, the darn dog never leaves my side... and I love the thing. Who knew? Great, spunky little dog.
A slave to her nose....
I have a beagle and he is challenging but a joy too. ❤
My Beagle, barks all of the time. She also trashes my closet and bathroom cabinet. I still 💕💕💕 her very much.
Thanks for sharing. That's what I need.
I made a clock once with 8 at all hour positions, and labeled it "Beagle feeding time is 8:00."
They love their blankets, just like little kids (smaller, dog blankets).
I enjoyed reading this, thanks for sharing 😊
Snoopy reached the age of 16 years
Our new puppy came to us as a stray our family named him peanut after the charlie Brown characters as a whole. Just like the cartoon. He brings us joy and smiles and his special treats 💩 that leaves us looking like this 😲😳.
I loved reading this!😊
This is my second beagle he has a service puppy in training just as my other beagle was a service dog unfortunately I lost him due to cancer earlier this year both my beagles I loving kind and caring dogs and they love everyone I use a beagle as a service dog for the nose because I have a lot of brain injuries some people do not understand why I use a beagle and not everyone will agree
We just got a beagle a month back, he is almost 2 and a half months old. Very naughty and mischievous, but we all love him. He has his moods too.
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my beagle. They are the best dogs.
Same here. Mine saved me from a bad place in my life. Very first dog and she kept me busy and her constant affection and attention is what I needed in my life.
Me too!!! My beagle was the best dog ever. He actually took care of me and my house while I was working.
However he’s stubborn but smart at the same time loved outside and cuddling/kissing/hugging
But bc his teeth are STILL coming in he loved biting and his chew toys.
Diego was 13 years old and he was like a human! I loved him so much!
Love my beagle! Remember ear infection are common in beagles too. Keep their ears dry and clean.
Yeah my beagle has constant ear infections
Yes and he is a good boy and we don’t neglect his regular veterinary visits
Yes I have a wonderful beagle but have made many mistakes with him try so hard with him he turns two today
@@pamk5620 thank you..

I am a happy Beagle owner. His name is Joey and he loves attention, food, sleep cuddles and lots of playing time.🥰😘
My beagle is the pickiest eater!
Excellent presentation and good advice
SNOOPY : the official Ambassador of Beagles🐶🐶💗
I have a beagle. She’s the best. Playful, eats and sleeps well. I don’t want her to be too friendly to strangers what I should do?
God i love beagles, i think god did a great deal by creating them, they brought me so much joy and my love is still going strong 12 years of age! Beagles are the cure to loneliness or depression, just make alot of time for them and do what they tell you in the vid and you have a friend/partner for life!
I'm older now, and mine keepings me going on my feet. She is a blessing to me.
Well said,Beagles are lovely hilarious, greedy, lazy & my Yogi is a big cuddly boy.
I have a beagle I love him so very much he is my buddy❤❤❤❤
I have a beagle/Redbone mix.looks like a very large beagle,85 pounds!!Rascal is a fitting name for him.
I have a begel and I love her
I have three female beagles. Early training is key.
thanks a LOT for the USEFUL information and to be TOTALLY honest i did do and/or PROBABLY will SOMEWHAT like beagles
My ‘Copper’….
She’s so cute,cute and cute.. ❤
When they are puppies they are so cute all you want to do is hug them.
@@cooldog60 yeah 😘
Yes Beagles are definitely stubborn and slaves to their noses and greedy but they are friendly, mine loves people, children and other dogs (unless they are unfriendly and growl at her) She shows a lot of interest in cats but once she gets close she doesn’t quite know what to do ❤
Soooooo cute
Postulates for a perfect Beagle:
Buster is 15 and we have to put him down soon he is not doing well, I don't want to let him go, carlie is a great and loving dog. she was a rescue...
I got my beagle when he was 3 he's 5 now. He seem to be set in his ways. Still trying to get him to socialize better. Othe than that we love him.
I love my 🐶
I rescued him 8 months
Previous owner
Crated truck driver
My older dog lab mix at first took to him
Than
She became aggressive toward him and severely attacked him with injuries
Required
Total
Separation
Poor Joey had been on Trazadone for some time by
His Vet Doctor
Socialization is impossible as he feels he must be aggressive to be safe.
So his contact with others in neighborhood is zero
However
When he goes to PetSmart for Grooming Treat
He is most docile unbelievable
And
Is so for few days .
I guess it’s because he is out numbered that he doesn’t get aggressive.
At home territory however he loves the Birds Conure and Budgies hmmmm
For some reason my beagle is very afraid of dogs and tends to run away as soon as anyone gets close, but love all humans :p
Try and take him to a doggy day care they can introduce it to others slowly
Oscar is 16 and still going strong. Few health conerns but he's ok.
You need a collar, a slip collar to make them pay attention, and you have to hike the collar up behind the ears sometimes so they get the message that they mustn't pull
And look for a good trainer who can come to your house and work with you and your dog.
My rescue beagle is 2 years old mellow house trained why spend $500 get a rescue they will love you for ever ❤❤
Try leaving for 5 mins then come back and try making it longer and see if that works
I have some problem with my beagle
FREE THE MBR ACRES BEAGLES, PUPPY CONCENTRATION CAMP
I still have a few issues with Mt beagle and he is a 11 years old.
Any help?
I also got him because he was in the corner while all of the rest played 😊
