- Berlin is often hailed as the world's techno capital, boasting some of the best and most famous clubs in the world including Berghain and Tresor. Today, the vibrant night life of the German capital attracts ravers and the best DJs in droves but how did the mechanical beats which merged in Detroit in the mid-1980s end up in Berlin? On this episode of History Stories we will explore the roots of Berlin's techno scene. Why did Berliners adopt the genre as the perfect soundtrack to the fall of the wall as abandoned bunkers, power plants and factories in the east of the city swarmed with clubbers from both sides celebrating their freedom. We talk to world-renowned DJs including Paul Van Dyk and Ellen Allien, nightclub owners and festival organisers to find out how Techno became the sound of Berlin.

6:17 "techno is made in makeshift home studios" - shows a room filled with the most iconic synths and drum machines, each of which now costs several thousand euros
Now....back than in Berlin we had these synths, sampler, HD recorders and outboard effect expanders....the second hand market was incredible in that time.
NOW the hardware synths are expensive....but back in the 90ies we didn't have the octa core multiple Ghz computers with today's vst synths and plug inns.
Need more content about this. The story of techno in Berlin ain't that small 😢

I was 16 in 1990. I live through the rave scene with the next 10 years.. going out to parties Thursday Friday Saturday live for the weekend, on 49 now and still listening to all the old tracks it changed my life for the better 🙂✌️
Beautiful times, the golden age of Rave and Techno music. Like this I don't think anyone can achieve a success like the Love Parade. At that time, freedom was literally in the air on the streets and now... we don't appreciate freedom, health, love...

I love hardstyle techno genres like frenchcore for example, but typical berlin techno has always been insanely boring to me. unless you are not on a whole cocktail of drugs, i dont see how can someone enjoy this music.. its so bland.
