People are allowed to make military/war and historical anime (as long as making references) as long as they're not directly or indirectly promoting and spreading purposeful hateful messages and all that. For example: Saga of tanya the evil whilst the setting is based on WWI/WWII it doesn't promote hateful messages whilst still being a war/military anime.

Your answer is as badly informed as the video. The German-Japanese true friendship started with the Meiji Revolution, when lots of Japanese statesmen intentionally went there to study in order develop Japan, as the country was renown in Europe due to its scientific, philosophic and political development. The resemblance between Japanese anime military uniforms and German attire stems from their historical connection. Anime's German-inspired uniforms are primarily based on: 1. Imperial German uniforms (1871-1918): Influenced by Prussia's military style, Japan adopted similar designs, so they aren't based on Nazis (Unless the plot and lore is set on the 1940s) 2. Imperial Japanese Army uniforms (1871-1945): Creators often draw from Japan's own military attire. This aesthetic nod reflects: 1. Post-WWI exchanges: German POWs and civilians in Japan shared cultural practices. 2. Meiji Restoration (1868): Japan modernized, embracing Western military practices. 3. German advisory role: Advisors like Major Jakob Meckel (1867-1936) reformed Japan's army. Examples of anime inspired by Imperial German uniforms: - "Hetalia" (2009) - "Girls und Panzer" (2012) - "Strike Witches" (2008) Examples of anime inspired by Imperial Japanese Army uniforms: - "Grave of the Fireflies" (1988) - "Barefoot Gen" (1983) - "The Cockpit" (1993) Anime creators blend historical references, showcasing their fascination with cultural exchange and military heritage.

I agree that some (maybe) have its political agenda and other message. But most of I know, they are mostly for drama, fun story and even just a joke (like GuP for example). Should we go into Gundam lore where people do g*ssing and do gen*cide by dropping an entire colony to earth? That cause nearly half of the human population on earth and space died because of that war alone? Heck, even same theme of story can be seen like Halo lore, which have the worse human casualties that cost 23 billions dead. Yes, those multi species aliens that called the Covenant which blinded by religion do a gen*cide to every humans they met.
This documentary is very poorly made, as it does not truly show the reality of the situation. Traditional media, both in the West and in Europe, have always talked about World War II, of course, from the aerodic point of view, on the part of the Allies. Now, it must be understood that what they are showing does not truly reflect the content in Japan. While we understand that it is a country that committed atrocities during World War II, the content exposed in the anime is not truly revitalizing or strengthening extremist ideologies. The anime Girls und Panzer is not exalting Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union. What it does is highlight tanks in a fictional sport that, at its core, celebrates respect for others. This is something that can be easily verified by researching on the wiki or watching the first episode of the anime. Yōjo Senki is an anime based on an extended World War I, not World War II, in a Germany that was under a king. This is established almost in the first episode. Therefore, what this documentary does is fail to address the real issue of extremist internet forums that target autistic otakus who are not very connected with reality. That is the real problem, not the content itself, since many of these do not reflect reality. This documentary is completely false and does not show genuine research on the topics."

@rthe2006 shut up millennial
How DW is obsessed with that topic and projecting their obsessions into manga.
The old DW back in 2022 was way different from it is today they used to talk about beautiful sights around Germany, about topic such as musics and arts if they were to stick to that route and not switch to this ragebait kind of reporting they would be loved.
First Vice and now DW
The consensus is complex, and combining so many cans of worms into a monolith is simply a textbook generalization.
You know it's serious when Deutsche Welle post smth like this.
Ofc it doesn't pose a danger lol. Anything goes. Youjo Senki and Girls Und Panzer are awesome.
Yeh they do not even promoting it just fun story stuff
Yall are the problem.
Where’s my GuP fans???
Please, don’t make a political issue out of it
Unfortunally we do the wrong mistake of Censuring and manipulating history to help to shape a "Perfect" Society and "Superior" race, that today is mostly motivated by Cultural Nationalism and exceptionalism (Nihonjiron) key Japanese policians like Taro Aso, Sanae Takaichi and others do not hide they symphaty to National Socialism, and it is still a thing in here. (ours Coporate and work Cultures was inspired by it, when the Shinto State beilives that merged with Japanese society after WWII)

Loved to watch! It is an amazing doc. The way DW approached the subject is good.
Thanks for your words! We're glad you liked it! 🥰

Once again, the ridiculous and pathetic German double standard in all its glory...
yup
@@neuromanteteatro and now theyre pointing it, it's now bad? What's worse, not noticing country A's reflecting country B's genocidal regime in media or that country or correcting it? Idk bout you but the latter makes more sense to me
another clear case of german guilt pride
I'm a german, dude, and most of us aren't like this. There are woke people in every country, yours included. I'm cringing so hard about this video, you wouldn't believe, but then again this channel is the equivalent of some american antifa page, so what to expect other than wokeness?
Which schools that produces these people with the same train of thought in your country? Were they WEF approved?
They're overthinking it. There is no conspiracy theories. We just love the aesthetics.
The resemblance between Japanese anime military uniforms and German attire stems from their historical connection. Anime's German-inspired uniforms are primarily based on:
1. Imperial German uniforms (1871-1918): Influenced by Prussia's military style, Japan adopted similar designs, so they aren't based on Nazis (Unless the plot and lore is set on the 1940s)
2. Imperial Japanese Army uniforms (1871-1945): Creators often draw from Japan's own military attire.
This aesthetic nod reflects:
1. Post-WWI exchanges: German POWs and civilians in Japan shared cultural practices.
2. Meiji Restoration (1868): Japan modernized, embracing Western military practices.
3. German advisory role: Advisors like Major Jakob Meckel (1867-1936) reformed Japan's army.
Examples of anime inspired by Imperial German uniforms:
- "Hetalia" (2009)
- "Girls und Panzer" (2012)
- "Strike Witches" (2008)
Examples of anime inspired by Imperial Japanese Army uniforms:
- "Grave of the Fireflies" (1988)
- "Barefoot Gen" (1983)
- "The Cockpit" (1993)
Anime creators blend historical references, showcasing their fascination with cultural exchange and military heritage.
Manga is the most cool thing ever.
Deal with it. 😜
Freedom of speech I guess?
Freedom of speech is not being questioned 😊
13:28 13:43 woah woah woah there
It is VERY much so a far leap to say that
i think amore pressing issue is why manga are obsessed with medieval isekai
The loser of the second world war glorifying another loser of the second world war. It's pathetic 😂
"How can young japanese people do this"
In art scene, the artwork of nazi girls were drew by westerner and character were edited to wear nazi uniform.
They show the artworks weren't japanese drew it (some arts i know who draw but forgot the name).
They use google as show these character with nazi artworks were japanese artist drew it.
They don't do western stuff/actions so I don't fall into stupid believe this.
I feel the “early life section” energy off them.
I love when DW sees the mote in the other's eye🧐
@14:40 yes, IT IS quite a far leap. If you read Atack on Titan and what you understand from it is that it fuels antisemitism, then you should not be allowed to read anything more complex children books.
なぜ日本の漫画がナチスや軍隊に執着しているのかと言う議題だけど…多分明治時代まで遡るほどの深い意図は無いと思うよ()
Code geass anime is also fascism tail but it has very good ending and has also valuable lesson
Love how free speech folks clearly haven't even watched the video and just spewed out their absolutist view as always. It's literally just a historical review of use of such symbols and where they came from leaving the judgement at the end for each individuals, something you free speech folks love to champion but love to silence.
Ikr? Weebs goin' crazy with this one!
You don't even need to watch the video, because the title alone is misleading at best, downright malicious at worst.
Manga is not obsessed with National Socialism in any sense of the word. A handful of series that grab German aesthetics does not make for an entire industry.
Trying to pin this on the "free speech folks" is a delusion cope, I'm sorry to say.
"You don't even need tô watch the vídeo because of the title" ah, come on! What a lazy excuse! 😴
>manga is not obsessed with national Socialism
>look at all the blonde hair, blue eye protagonists
It's funny that the US & some Western military wasn't depicted that's why they felt offended.
Bruh, then why things like War Thunder and World of Tanks exist, heh? Isn't it just to see what old military fights be like? - it's the history to be remember, to avoid it in the future. None of them are promoting and glorifying the Nazis.
Shame on you DW, talking about the Japanese obsession with Germans and not mentioning Asuka Langley Soryu😂
Gup mentioned rahhh 🔥🔥🔥
Crazy that child of WW2 vet hate on GuP because it would be "disrespectful" to them because tank don't move that fast and people actually die in there. In that case they should have on Airsoft as well because people died during gun fight in WW2, but of course they don't it just because they hate girls driving tank.
Do you people have real problems

Thanks for your Feedback! Glad you liked it 😊
Crazy there are weapons in manga and people feel offended by that or can't handle it,
Also funny how gup is probably one of the most innocent animes out there with literally not even a single death
@@Katyusha862 People that have their dad or grandpa serve WW2 especially as a tanker really hate GuP they say that GuP is disrespecting the hardship that they went through during the war and the anime make it into a sport.
The thing I'm confused about is why don't they hate on Airsoft as well I mean that is actually a real sport and hobby shouldn't it be disrespectful to their veteran too?
@TylerNPTOfficial honestly good point, I could understand that some people would find it disrespectful seeing an anime about ww2 if close family members served in it, but at the other time I think its good that it's shown as a tank sport like airsoft and not an actual ww2 battle.
This is a serious topic, but the English accent and manner of speaking in the narration is identical to the sensationalist and fake news paparazzi press in England. That is, it’s not a serious manner of speaking English. It seems bizarre and wholly inappropriate, and distracts the listener from the main discussion. The translators of individual Japanese speakers are appropriate.
About the topic: Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat the mistakes. Many comments from ignorant people here. Sad.
Before you trash others see yourself first, you're clearly the ignorant person here you know, while others where pointing their criticisms on this sloppy work of a journalism, you here were commenting on the voices they used on the video, i.e. the irrelevant stuffs, while also trying to boost your ego looking down on these "ignorant people", providing a generic quote that adds nothing substantial to the discussion.
Man nazis had the best uniforms and anime and manga make such good nazi uniforms and vehicles
Hey DW I recommend anime/manga "Hellsing" they have Nazis, Robot nazis Vampires,Dracula, Zombies, Catholic zealots, Catholic deathsquads, Catholic priest super assassin, Maniacs, Secret Organizations, Swastikas, Guns, Blood, Gore, etc etc.. It got everything..the only thing it doesnt have are DW's ignorance and stupidity..

Why Hollywood and German makes a movie about Nutseesm?
Because to show the world how it was and how horrible it is. Please, differentiate which one is fantasy and a real world story.
Whoever made this definitely has a hatred for otaku culture.
meh, funny reporting.
This says a lot about society
if you seen the 3 stooges american show theres some episodes that has nazism in it
What I care about most is that they look so beautiful in that uniform hehee
I can't believe it's not bait
I, for one, think you guys are just over-thinking literally everything.
But they are actually one of the best anime mangas 😁🤣👌
It's similar to westerner who think the imperial Japanese symbol is cool, although it has a horrifying meaning among Asian nation.
