    Gabe, I am thinking about salmon now for 2023. 2022 was brutal to me. Question, do you run from main line braid, to a top shot of flouro carbon line to rig, if so, how many feet do you recommend? straight braid was not flexible enough I think, to many fish did not stick. You FBR setup worked. Thanks Mr Q

      Hey brother, man I'm sorry to hear that 2022 was not good to you! I hope you have an awesome 2023!!!! So I will give you my whole run down. I run 65lb. braid to 50 feet of 40lb. Mono, and then I run several different lengths of mono, and different pound tests for my hoochie leaders. So If I have Salmon that are not being aggressive on biting, I will run a mono leader from my flasher to hoochie with a length of about 4 feet, and a pound test of 60 to 80lbs. If they are biting pretty good, then I will run a mono leader about 2' to 3 feet with a 40 pound test from my flasher to the hoochie. I don't use flouro carbon, because mono has always worked well for me, but you certainly could use it! I'm glad to hear the FBR. setup worked for you!! On a side note, I had a day out there last year that was really tough, I mean I tried everything. The clock was ticking down, and I had no fish, so I put on a watermelon apex, and within 15 mins. I had hooked into my largest Salmon of the year which weighed in at 32lbs. I have a video on that if you haven't seen it. I hope you found some of this helpful, and thank you for the great question, and your support!!!!!!

      Gabe, I found the answer to my question below. 50 feet of mono. I am going to do this with flourocarbon. Also it will keep my line in the the DR clip. Thks

      @@baldeaglefishingadventures FY2022 was mostly due to main motor issues getting to and from the grounds. 3K later, issue was found and resolved after the season. Yep got the apex, when one was on didn't stick, lost a few. Thanks for the info. I am killing them this season....😁 Hope to see you on the water this season.

    The cork screw affect I think probably doesn’t matter since you put so many bead chains in just a thought.

      Hey brother, so yes you are correct, the line does not keep twisting the hook in. However what I'm referring to is the off set bend I put in the hook so on the initial hit the hook gets twisted, and buried into the fishes mouth. I've seen this over and over again on the fish that I catch! Thank you so much for checking out one of my videos!!!!!!!!!!!

    If you are using 60 pound leader what pound is your main trolling line?

    • @baldeaglefishingadventures
      @baldeaglefishingadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Cathy, thank you for the great question! So my main line is 65lb green moss Power Pro braid, toped with 50 feet of 40lb clear mono, and they are attached by a uni-knot. I typically use 3 different pound test on my Hoochie leaders, 50 pound test on my 24 to 30 inch leader, and 60 pound test on my 36 to 40 inch leader, and 80 pound test on my 42 to 48 inch leader. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Interesting, The `whole leader length thing your commercial buddy is wright I dont run anything less than 50 inches and 30LB leader what i do though is pick up my speed nothing less than 3MPH and more importantly is the angle of my downrigger lines.
    So I fish on the east side of central Vancouver Island if you think 100 feet is deep you should try up here we fish 200 t0 250 and we are dragging our balls in the mud. I've played with every new gadget that's come out in the last 50 years and i know now its the uv thing everything is uv and I find myself always going back to the old stuff.
    Hot spot flasher red and or green, white/purple hoochy (like the one in your video) or army truck, spoons Tom Mack two and half or 3 inch with or with out a flasher, cop car anything always works. I usually buy pre rigged hoochies but i will rig up a couple with the hooks further back makes sense always looking to learn something new and thats what lead me to your video. Good luck out ther and be safe

      Thanks brother for the great comment, and for checking out my videos!! Today I was out, and I actually was using a hooch with a leader that was 18" inches the shortest leader I've ever used, and it was getting hit, but they wouldn't stick. All other lengths they wouldn't even touch it, and yes I even had to raise the speed to 3mph. Today they wanted Water melon apex, I put that on and landed a 32lb on the scale, video to follow soon!!! Thanks again!!!!!!!

      @@baldeaglefishingadventures very cool looking forward to the video. 32lbs that gets you Tyee status in these parts. I was limiting out in under an hour on the white Hoockies up until saturday past and now they won't touch them went to spoons and only hooked small fish going to try the cop car apex next time out
      Good luck 👍

      Thank you so much brother!! I have done side by side lures, one with scent, and one without, and they perform about the same! No I have not added any bait to the hook, the method that I use seems to work well without adding anything to it. Thanks for watching, and the great questions!!!!!!!!

      @@baldeaglefishingadventures So if I understand right, the 60-80lb mono is stiffer so on the longer leaders it still gives action to the bait from the flasher? Have you thought about using the snap releases on the 360 flasher I see the river salmon fisherman use? It releases one end of the flasher so you dont have the drag from it anymore. Main reason I have never used a 360 in ocean, is fighting the fish with that on seems like a challenge.

    • @baldeaglefishingadventures
      @baldeaglefishingadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrisPfish2, yes that's correct on the mono. I used 80lb in the very beginning just as I was told by the commercial guy, and I did catch fish, but a few years back I tried 60 lb. and I still had good action on the hoochy. Length of mono between the flasher, and the hoochy should be around 44" to 60". The shorter the leader go with 60lb. The longer the leader you will need to move up to 80lb. I run most of my hoochy leaders at 50" and 60lb. and that seems to work well, but I do have longer, and shorter leaders ready to go just in case I feel that the Salmon are wanting a little bit different action. No I have not tried those other types of flashers, but if they give a good amount of action to the hoochy then they should be just fine.

      Hey brother, you are very welcome!! Yes this old timer commercial guy that was my neighbor at Spud point marina a few years back was the one that told me about the heavier # test, that's what he was using. I've done both with good luck on them, but I still get decent action with 60#, so that is what I mainly use, but only on the Hoochies, everything else gets 40# test. Thanks for watching!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I use a bead swivel, about 18”-24” up from the bait or lure, on all of my rigs…so the mechanics of the offset hook point are negated on my set up…

      Using a sinker release setups

    • @baldeaglefishingadventures
      @baldeaglefishingadventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Freddie, thank you for the great question, so first of all it sounds like your going on a charter boat, and if that is the case, I would do exactly what the Deckhand, or captain suggests! The reason being is they know what the Salmon are biting on, and if they are using anything besides bait, they know pretty much what other rigs work, and they should have it already put together, and ready for you to use. The other thing is a lot of times Charter boat Captains may not want you to use a large flasher with Hoochies if there are a lot of fisherman on board due to that it may tangle up a bunch of lines. Six pack Charters are a bit different due to they only have six fisherman. Now to answer your original question, I all ways use Mono, that has always worked for me. So for leaders rule of thumb, and what I use is pretty much 3 leader lengths 24", 36", and 48". On my 24" I use 40lb, on my 36" I use 60lb, and on my 48" I use 80lb. The rule of thumb is the longer in leader length the heavier the pound test, so that it still gives good action to your Hoochie. If you have any questions at all please ask, and thanks for watching my videos, and great fishing to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great information in this video. I will have to find and buy some of those plastic line stops, that is a great little gimmick!
    Regarding the whole flasher rotation topic. The chain swivel on your leader to me negates any rotational leverage generated by the flasher. Yes I can see the hootchie rotating but as soon as the fish grabs the hook I think the rotational force is lost due to the chain swivel and the fact that mono twists really easy.
    I used to just use a smooth file on my hooks but then I came up with the idea of using fine 400-600 grit emery cloth glued to popsicle sticks. Give it a try, you won’t be sorry!
