      So I have a question.. have a 2005 Mini Cooper r50... did a motor swap because of blown motor... I have new axles and all... replaced cvt fluid... when the transmission is put under a load or speed. Cvt fluid / trans fluid will poor out of a small plastic line that is attached to the side of the back of the trans that leads to the top of the trans just under the battery and fuse box... what is that line? It goes to nothing And why is it doing it??? At 46:09 in your video when you flip the trans you can see the same plastic line...

      If I rotate the input shaft manually, is the output shaft supposed to rotate? Or does it only start when higher speed or hooked up to vehicle sensors? I rotate input shaft and out put won't spin. If backwards it does a bit, or if I go super slow it may. It I rotate the secondary drive it does spin the output shaft. All I did was change belt, never knew of it spun before. Please someone chime in if this bimmer expert doesn't. Your video is amazing my brother!!!!

    I did mine about 7 years ago now using this video to help me. It had the main bearing on the input shaft go along with the belt and a few small other items. It is still on the road today with over 35 thousand miles on the rebuild.

    Excellent video. Unfortunately it confirms my worst fears. The seal on my drum is torn up so the transmission needs to come out for rebuild. Hopefully there isn't any damage to internal parts as I saw in your video. I always enjoy watching someone who knows what they're doing at work.

    Awesome video! The CVT and even the midlands transmission isn't as much of a disaster as it gets played out. For the size of the transmission and what it does for even a light car it's pretty remarkable. Sure there's faults but you can repair them. I did this exact method blind 6 years ago (knowing I had a good cvt that I was throwing back into the Mini). I just wanted to learn why it had failed and possibly fix the original cvt for Mini. I did learn it the hard way with the pitot tube but was able to replace it.
    The only thing I would change or make a caveat on in the video is when you're taking apart the drums to not use an impact hammer. If you know you can control the hammer or can make it more controllable by all means. I've seen some messed up gears from someone that tried to use an impact hammer and it got wild on them. You can use a special tool instead to remove it or even make one like I did.

    05 r50 has hesitation when put in gear..drive or reverse from dead stop,would much appreciate your knowledge on this matter...Awesome job on the tear down and reassemble especially what to look for and how to go about it all..once again awesome job!!

    Hello Ben! I am following your instructions and I am rebuilding my CVT which has 260K kilometers (about 160K miles). It had no noticeable issues, mainly significant leaks but I am overhauling both the cvt and the engine. Which parts would you suggest to change now that it is off the car for that mileage (to prevent having to remove the cvt again)? I would like to buy the parts from the website you suggested in one shipping too because I am in Greece. I would greatly appreciate any guidance on the torque values for the assembly.     I have a mini r50 cvt, gearbox loose, I replaced another gearbox which works well in reverse gear, but when I put the gearbox does not D it gives an accoup I have no fault code, I do not know of where does the problem come from thank you for your help

    You forgot something small, yet detrimental. The 2 output seals for the axle shafts. The passenger side one can't NOT be pressed in all the way till bottomed out, otherwise it barely meets the contact on the lip of where it seals the shaft machined surface. It will leak, because the shaft does not go in that far. Press it in with about a 1/4 lip showing, not bottomed inside. The other side can be pressed all the way in, just not the passenger side on American side cars. (The longer sides shaft).

    Wow mate you couldn't make it any easier.Just liked how you specifically noted damages n major fail points.Showed all possible mistakes n major don't n dos.Just can't wait for my 2002 mini cooper to lag.Just one thing,noticed black oily substance when fitting plates on drum sector.Would you have to clean then up.Other than that primo job.Gonna be saving me abit of coin.Whats the price on a full rebuild kit,may I ask.

    Thank you for your video. How much do you change fixing this? I don't if my mini lost his (adaptation)mind or just a transmission problem but my mini doesn't shift gear anymore. After 10 mins of driving, in 30-35 miles speed, the rpm hit 3000. And the faster I try to drive, the rpm keeps rising. do you think my mini lost his mind? or just a CVT problem. No engine light no other light. 2006 mini cooper base 156000

      you [probably need a new primary drum, that is the symptom when it goes bad

    Hi from Fresno! Maybe you can help my mini, 2012 R56 S hardtop. For 2 years the transmission seems to need 5 mins warm up. If I just drive in the morning it won't want to shift well for the first 2 mins or so. If I let idle for 5 mins it is ok. Rest of the day it shifts fine, unless it sits for 4 hrs or more then it needs to warm up again. Any idea? No one can figure it out. If I come down there, whats the cost and time frame to repair? You guys seem so great!

I would like to ask that piece that you mention. The piece that you mention at minute 17 and something in the video I would like to know why they change that piece or because they release it, that piece must have play. It has a Catholic Int, it must not have a game. I would greatly appreciate your help, since we changed the chain, changed bearings, changed fluid, changed O-to-do filters and yet the box still does not pass first.

    I have a 06 mini with the cvt and 170xxx. Last week it started reving out with a max speed of 30 mph. Reverse works fine and in manual mode you can shift it up to 4th but still maxes out at 30 mph. Changed the stepper solenoid and the rotational sensor but nothing. Also there is no codes in the system. New trans?

    Hi Ben I’m juan from los banos ca I have a08 Cooper s R55 and i would like your advice my transmission goes 1 t2 milles speed and then slowly goes increasing speed to normal up to50 60 milles I watch your video on the clutch solenoid but I replace the complete transmission before now Wethersfield this transmission I got no movement at all I tried clear adaptations and gear learning procedure and still the same if you can help me with this I will be very happy

    such a great video.
    i have 2004 r50 with juddering when it accelerated. like when you accelerate, it wont connected smoothly i think at friction disks. there feel like two or three steps to connect completely.
    when the car stops, it juddering too when transmission goes creep mode from low gears.
    i wonder its because of clutch solenoid or friction plate.
    is friction plate going bad?
    id love hear your opinion.

      Hi Emush K It's impossible to diag a car over the internet but it sounds like something is going on with the valve body could be the clutch solenoid or stepper motor

    Hello, i have a mini r50 with cvt. I can choose drive or reverse without problem. When i start accelerating, it doesn't change from 1st gear to 2nd etc. It says that i have 2nd and 3rd in the screen when i choose to do it, but i still have the 1st one.     In my mini , when my car is cold , i take the cvt in drive and my engine stop , i have this problem just for cold engine , hot engine no problem. Change thé oil ? Or it’s big other problem?

      Hi, there is probably something else going on. maybe an adaptation reset or a possible air leak

    HI very nice video.I am from Greece and i have a mini R50 with cvt.When it is cold the gearbox work ok but after some time it start to make wrong changes and to not accelerate the car.What do you think from your experience it is the problem?oil pump?disk?or the primary drum?valve body?

      Might sound weird. But I've seen in forums that bad warm running issues can sometimes be caused by an old battery. Even if the battery still starts the car well. Some people found there was an issue with old batteries that caused the electronic control of the cvt to malfunction.

    R53 with transmission failure
    skate, jump, changes 3 and 4 do not enter
    but the funniest thing is that you turn off the car and 5 minutes and turn it on and it works perfectly again
    after half an hour
    the same thing happens again
    start to fail
    every time more it fails and in less time after turning off and on
    I have seen to exhaustion video and pages on the internet
    and it seems like no one really knows what's going on
    at the mini agency
    They only tell you you have to make a transmission change
    that costs 2 times what the car can cost
    my mini has 80 thousand kilometers

    My input shaft seal is leaking and I notice if I grab the shaft I can move it up and down a little bit is that normal or should I replace the input shaft bearing?.

      yes replace the input shaft bearing and check to make sure you don't need a planetary

    Hi My Mini Cooper after 2 hr drive suddenly gets stuck on higher gear and car just creeps and does not pick up speed. It takes long time to pick up speed. Once it reaches speed it drives ok and the problem starts again when the car has to stop at traffic lights. I want to try to change valve block. Can a valve block be changed in place without lowering the subframe. Can I be able to get access to the pan easily or I have to remove several other items. My car is mini cooper 2002 with ZF automatic transmission. Your reply will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      Yes sounds like you need a clutch solenoid and yes you can do it with out lowering the sub frame

    I have a 2007 106k miles it will drive ok cold but when it gets hot its goes to ep mode i tried changing the fluid no change then tried to preform adaptation no luck it pulls strong but no shift , I have pulled the trans what should i be looking for ?? Is their a tech manual with instructions out their ?

      @@minicooperexperts no only low 30 mph is max , it will not do the adaptation multiple tries , The replacement did the adaptation per the instructions and seems to working ok i have driven it 800 miles so far, My plan is to rebuild the old one so i have a spare.       @@dougowens8526 So its been a little over year after replacement , the only issue is a short time after replacement the transmission it went crazy intermittent bucking not shifting , I discover it was a bad Tach (post on the internet suggested to disconnect it ) I did drove it for 200 miles no issues replaced tach still good

      @@minicooperexperts i think the inner belt or the gears not 100% sure but it locks whenever i try driving it

      no that's a second generation unless is a convertible but even then "S" never had a CVT

    Hi i have a problem with my CVT gearbox. I did adaptation but still adaptation mode is activated. Car drive forward beetwen 4000/5000 rpm. Oil is new, cluch solenoid and plates are new, sealers are new but its still doesn't work. I ask you for help becouse i from Poland and nobody here can't help me everyone want to put new gearbox.     I’m watching this looking for tips how to pull the cv axle out of the drivers side. It’s seriously stuck. If I pull the passenger side axle can I see through to the driver side axle shaft?
