By far the best explanation and demonstration I've found on this process! Thanks for sharing! I do have a couple questions about the machine, is the axis of the follow wheel the same as the grinding wheel? also, what are the effects of wear of the grinding wheel?
Glad you liked it, no, the follow wheel is not on the same axis, the wheel is large it wears little, we rough grind then dress and finish grind. No measurable wear.
I really liked this video! Do you regrind used cams? I have a stock magnum 5.9 cam that i would like reground. Is a 108 lsa possible/feasable on one of these? This will be for mild street use and some towing.
Thanks for sharing this video, very informative. What is acceptable base circle variation from lobe to lobe? I have a cam here ground elsewhere with .032 difference from smallest to largest base circle diameter, this is a rocker on cam engine ohc no rhyme or reason on this cam just all over the place
"If " the lift is the same from int to exh base circle should be within. 005, now have said that some times there are other factors, but... all intakes should be the same and all exh should be the same.
Do the lifter center lines always align with the left or the right edge of the cam, or does it vary for different lobes or different engines? Thank you for all this info! Dave
I need a mild roller grind for a Ford 428, 4 speed galaxie 3.25 gear. Edelbrock rpm heads 10.5 compression. I want a CJ style PowerBar, so low .500s lift and around d 220 degrees @.050 on a 112. That's just a ballpark... I'm not a grinder like you and if you have a recommendation I'm going with the expert. Anything off the shelf or do you think I need a custom grind? Whats the cost on a mild street roller?
Funny that right next to the notification I got for this video, was one from Dan at DD's Speed Shop "grinding a cam". th-cam.com/users/shorts6Kvh4DanWSM
Thanks for showing this. For decades I've heard about camshaft grinding but never saw someone run a machine and explain things.
You're welcome!
Thanks for making these educational videos.😊
Glad you like them!
Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Daniel!
My pleasure!

@@powellmachineinc Thank you for taking the time to explain that to me 🙂 I very much appreciate it and will not use this camshaft...
I am surprised the TH-cam experts have not commented and said you have it all wrong.
Will the grinding wheel maintain its dimension for the entire cam? Thanks.
Yes,
Very nice.
How are your journal profiles generated that you use for masters?
Joe
Thank you!, the master profile is ground on a Landis cnc

On roller cams the the lifter is centered on the lobe, on flat tappets they're slightly offset
Have you ever ground a VW camshaft? Having trouble getting a cam ground the way I need
Yes
Would it be a costly project to repair a brand new cam with one lobe wiped ?
Billet?
@@powellmachineinc No its a hydraulic grind

We manufacture new camshafts
