    I can tell it isn't your first time doing this, cause you sure make it look much easier than it is for a firstimer! Had to pause for a few minutes a few times till I get it right while you were doing it in swift motions. Thank you a lot for the video 😊

    i found that tethering a thin thread to the end of the black wireless wire and threading it through the game slot made it very easy to tug the wire underneath and saved a lot of time. great video thx

      Same thing happened to me. It happened with a laptop using the same switch too.Those switch are cursed its not your fault. My laptop and ds lite turned to trash afterall. I resoldered a new switch but it didnt work. So I bought a new motherboard for ds lite.

    I got so lucky with the black wire. It went right through on my first attempt with no resistance at all. I had a harder time pulling it through when I took it apart.
    Edit: on my second time doing this (trying to clean up my gf’s old ds) I ended up bending the little tabs on the top pieces and they wouldn’t go back together. I had to buy new shell pieces for the top. Make sure you’re careful when snapping the shell pieces together

    Worked perfectly. My DS lite has had a very, very minor problem ever since I was in high school, and that's that the power switch got pushed in at some point so it didn't glide properly (basically, it fell off the track that you snap it into when you put the button back into the shell during reassembly). You could still switch on the system, but it didn't look or feel quite right. Thanks to your tutorial, I was able to easily open the system, put the switch back in place, and close it up again with no problems. Still works perfectly! Thanks man!

    It did thanks! I managed the little dinky ribbon, it was hard to tell which orientation to insert from!

    I did this because my top screen wasn't working, I was checking if the ribbon cable was connected all the way, it was but I took it out and put it back in just in case. when I put it back together everything was working just fine, (thanks to you) but the top screen still wasn't showing anything, it was just blank. I'm gonna buy a new screen, and this video and your tear down video were so helpful I'll be coming back again when I get a new screen. Thanks for making such a descriptive video!

    Hey I’m not sure if you still reply to comments, but your videos have been really helping me with replacing the shell/hinge on my DS lite. Though I’ve run into a small problem that I was wondering if I could get some help with. On 13:45 you’re reattaching the left trigger and putting the spring in place. So I notice when I do that I fell like I can’t put down the trigger+spring and have it stay in place because of the black wire in the way. Do you have to put it in a certain way? I would appreciate any help with this since I’ve been having trouble for a while.

    • @JonathanRichards2
      @JonathanRichards2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I reply from time to time. I know what you mean. I've run into that problem many times, and it's always the left trigger. I would make sure that the motherboard is sitting flush with the plastic. I've noticed sometimes that some motherboards had a slight curve to it due to warping. Try pulling on the black wire a bit, sometimes there's a bit under the motherboard. Other than that, the other thing I've done was just to keep pressure on the left side so the spring stays in place while I place the bottom plastic on. Once that's on you should be fine, just tighten down the screws. Not sure what else to say on that other than keep trying.

Idk if I want to make the insides completely white with blue button(or a mix of both)or if I wanna to like u did here and make the top white and the bottom screen base blue with white buttons(or a mix). I'm gonna keep the outer case all ice blue,but idk if there's a combo that should have been done beside the ice blue and white

    I have no idea why but when I screwed in the phillips head screws into the corner lights like what you did at 7:43 and placed the motherboard into the case to put on the triggers, the screws weren't in all the way, even though i screwed them so tightly that i ironically need to go out and get a better screwdriver to unscrew them. They arent flush with the case, and are higher. Why is this? Did i install something wrong to cause them to be uplifted, or are they touching a wire, or was it the 3rd party case's falt? Any help would be appreciated.

    • @JonathanRichards2
      @JonathanRichards2  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what wires would be in the way. Is the light bit sitting flush against the top? You mentioned that you're using a 3rd party case. Did they provide the screws or are you using the screws from the old case? These are the longest screws in the DS, and if you're using a 3rd party case then there's a chance the screws won't fit properly. Do you have any shorter screws available you can try?

    • @fuzzyregirock
      @fuzzyregirock 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jonathan Richards it actually looks like my corner light fixture is tilted forward a bit and isn't linear with the top hinge, how do I fix this

    • @fuzzyregirock
      @fuzzyregirock 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      And do these screws need to go all the way in

    • @JonathanRichards2
      @JonathanRichards2  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two different DS molds that I'm aware of. When it comes to this corner light fixture, if you look at the bottom, some of the screw holes are recessed a bit, and some are flush with the bottom. I'm guessing that yours is the kind that is flush with the bottom. Corresponding to these two different molds are two different bottom screen fixtures that the light fixture fits onto. The area where the light fixture fits will either be completely flat or have a couple of bumps. So if you have a light fixture that is flat on the bottom, you want to attach it to the bottom screen fixture that also has that area flat. If your light fixture has the two recesses, then you want the bottom screen fixture with the two bumps. If you have a light fixture that is flat and a bottom screen fixture that has the bumps, then your light fixture won't be flush. I don't know if that helps or makes things more confusing. And yeah, the screws should go in all the way.

    Hello! I broke my DS lite about a decade ago. 10 years later, I'm now gonna take a jab at it in fixing it and this video, as well as your others, have really helped. Unfortunately, it seems I'm going to have to replace the top screen. I have the classic "bottom screen flashes for a second and then turns off" problem.
    I was wondering, would there be another reason why the bottom screen would just flicker and die? (Besides the loose ribbon cable) I want to be 100% sure that it's the screen that needs replacing

    • @JonathanRichards2
      @JonathanRichards2  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would also check the fuses. There are 2 main ones you want to check. I think they're called L1 and L2. You can just get a multimeter and check for continuity. They are pretty hard to replace, you'll need some high level soldering skills. I would at least buy a top screen, you can get them for fairly cheap, just to make sure that's the problem before taking a soldering iron to the motherboard.

    Can I buy a ribbon cable for the upper screen? I have torn it a little for putting it back.. When I tried to turn my ds lite, the lower screen was darker(dim) than the original brigtness of it and the upper screen is darker than the lower screen.. Letters on the lower screen are hard to see but I can still touch it and it flickers a little (the flickering is not dark)..

    • @JonathanRichards2
      @JonathanRichards2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can buy ribbon cables for the upper screen, but I would not recommend it unless you really know what you're doing. I've tried several times to replace the upper screen ribbon cable, and it's just more hassle than it's worth. You're better off just buying a new upper screen.

    Hi, I'm new to all this but learning!
    First question, have a DS lite that will charge , but when you try to power up, green lite comes on for a few seconds then off. What do I check or replace?
    Second, can ds reader be resoldered at the corner ,(loose) if so can you do a video?
    Your videos are awesome keep them coming for D's lite
    Thank you. Ken

    • @JonathanRichards2
      @JonathanRichards2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoy them. I need to do more, but get busy with work and life.
      For your first question, I would check the connectivity of the fuses with a multi-meter. There are two that are pretty fickle. It's hard to explain, but there's a lot of info about these fuses. You can either replace them or bridge them.
      For your second question, I've replaced DS card readers so yes, you can resolder the corners. It really only needs to be connected to the pins in the back. There are four corners where it is soldered to the motherboard for stability, but not for connectivity. In your case, is one of the corners not connected to the motherboard?

    • @JonathanRichards2
      @JonathanRichards2  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like the ribbon cable for the top screen wasn't inserted all the way. Usually if the bottom screen flashes on then off, the problem is with the top screen and vice versa. I would open it back up and make sure the ribbon cable for the top screen is in all the way.

      I would check the battery first. The battery may be completely dead. Even if you use the charging cord, the DS won't turn on if the battery is dead. The light will flash on for a second then shut back off as you described. Batteries are really cheap, so get a new one and see if that works.

      You mean the little metal tube shown in 1:00? What do you mean it won't connect? Was the tube originally with the DS you're working on? There are two sizes of metal tubes in DS's. When you put the metal tube in, it should be poking out a bit. If it is flush, then pop it out with a flathead screw driver or needle nose pliers.

      Thanks! Glad you like it. I'm a bit unclear what you mean by the 4 hook thing. The touchscreen connects to that tiny connector near the DS card slot. It has a black tab that you raise and lower. Is that what you mean? If the touchscreen cable is not connected then just raise the black tab, insert the touch screen ribbon cable, and then lower the black tab to lock it into place. Let me know if that helped or not.

      So there's just one dark spot on the screen or many? I'm curious because I've never heard of this before. Was the DS functioning correctly before taking it apart?

    I disassembled and re-assembled it perfectly and wondered why the power button was so loose when I tried to power it on, took me hours to realize I broke the tiny plastic tip that allows for the console to turn on lmao fml. I have to replace it with something else or else I'll have to replace the whole motherboard and I'm not really down for that

    I know I'm pulling on it a bit rough but its just cause I've given up at this point, upon trying to refeed the wifi antenna under the slot it gets stuck and I have no clue what to do now. It's REALLY stuck. I'm an idiot.

      Yeah I've been there. My only advice is to just keep playing with it and not pull too hard. I've pulled it hard enough that I broke off the metal piece. Try making sure that the metal bit is as flat as possible with the open part facing up. Then try to make sure the wire is as straight as possible. Good luck!
