I tried it yesterday and it works like a charm, thank you. Yours was the first video I saw and at first I was very scared of the tiny size of that thing. Anyway, I have some suggestions: I used finger nails, not a razor to get the hull of, and it worked just fine, and is probably less dangerous. For cleaning, I used a nail file. I used a bit of tape to have one half covered, and then went on to clean. The soft, blunt edges of the file worked great, even if it took a while. It is very important which side faces inwards, I put the wrong side first in, and it wouldn't click, but it was stuck, so I used the spring of the L button to get it out, since the space where I could stick something was very small. That caused the contact to flip out. So use a very long and wide table, so it lands there. Also, be careful when you try to put everything back. I dipped the DS to the side, so suddenly the contact was gone from the inside. I looked everywhere, until I thought, maybe it slipped inside the Ds and it did. Last, the hull outisde actually broke off, however I just pushed it back on, it fits and stays there, and like I said the thing works perfect now.

When i turn it back on it asks for my name, the date, the time, and my birthday, but i already told this long before.... so is it cleared, becouse im afraid to complete this menu in case that completing it might delete my save files...

Nothing like a 5 year old video to save the day. Bit by bit I've been having to take apart my ds lite to clean whether it's the volume or the touch screen, but the LR buttons I had no clue bout this little tiny disk inside the casing I just always would assume clean with some IPA and a tooth brush not realizing it had more to it on the inside of the metal casing. Thank you dude they were always sounding nice with the clicks but didn't really register unless I pressed down super hard usually by the cartridge area now it's amazing.

Thank you! My R button stopped working on my old DS lite. It was exactly this issue. Corroded foil. It took me a lot longer than in this video, but the operation was a success! It's easier to use needle nosed tweezers to get the foil out and back in than using the magnetic screwdriver head. Didn't bother cleaning the L button contact since it still works and this is a REALLY delicate operation with a lot that could go wrong. Thank you, brother!

I bought the iFixit screwdriver, much better than those flimsy cheap screwdrivers that you see online, and it’s really magnetised so it helps tremendously with the very small metallic parts.

It is best to go slowly. I also suggest using a tooth pick hold the metal plate when you're cleaning it and it'll help move the metal plate back in place. I found the metal plate to be very magnetic.
