- This is Canyon High School's 2016 Night of Percussion Concert!
These are the Canyon High School percussionists performing the famous Chicago tune "Beginnings," arranged by Brad Arnold and Dave Eskridge. This piece features the original drum set artist of the band Chicago and rock-and-roll hall of fame artist, Danny Seraphine, with a killer drum set solo!!
The percussion program is under the direction of Brad Arnold and Rene Gonzales. As always, use headphones or good speakers for the best audio quality. Enjoy!

This young drum group did beautiful job with this song. the whole group Chicago couldn't have done a better job. Danny Seraphine was always one of my favorite drummers. Buddy Rich once called him one of the best drummers in the business. which is a great compliment from one of the best himself.

He, Terry and Peter were, what Chicago is all about...He was like their pulsating and tasteful heartbeat. One of the few drummers, that i describe as artists...Danny was irreplacable...

Danny Seraphine, Buddy Rich, Gene Kruppa, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Neal Peart,,, all greats in a league of they're own... Just turned 65 yrs old and have watched them all...going all the way back to the movie,,, The Gene Kruppa Story...yep, that would be on the old black and white tube tv with the indispensable rabbit ears!!!

Passing on to the next generation the 'greatest music' our Baby Boom generation are blessed. No greater gift then Seraphine is giving them. Also we Boomers were blessed with the coolest cars ever made and the most beautiful ladies.
Just came across this. Thanks for posting! The "kids" did a great job and adding the horn section was a great idea...and they played well. I first Chicago when I was a freshman in high school listening to Chicago Transit Authority on our bandroom stereo. That was indeed a "life changing experience." Danny has been one of my favorites ever since that day in 1969. I think some of the music of Chicago will be played MANY years into the future and Danny will be influencing young drummers for ages.

Good to see some of the students seeming to have an idea what's going on, while others sort of stand there.
Some are definitely more shy than others, but I’m sure all of them appreciate what they are playing and who they are sharing the stage with! 🙂

What a great opportunity for these guys, was a Chicago fan from the beginning and especially of Terry Kath and Danny Seraphine. As I started playing with garage bands in the 70s and 80s, I was mostly a bass player but developed an interest in drumming and studied styles from John Bonham, Danny and later, Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart. There's been so much great talent develop since the days of Fred Below, Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich - it's been really exciting to watch the development of technique as well as equipment. Well done, band!
Sounds like you put a study on some really great and legendary musicians - that's the way to do it! Hopefully these students do the same, which is why Danny Seraphine was brought out to give this concert with them - to inspire the same aspirations of study with this younger generation. You can really tell how much the apprenticeship under the legendary Joe Porcaro paid off for Danny's technique. It's as though he has reclaimed the famous chops of the first seven Chicago albums and gave them a tune-up. This was such a joy to watch. And those kids will have a story to tell their kids and grandkids.

@@artistaloca4 More videos like this to come this May! These concerts are annual, and take place after months of preparation by the kids. However, every year is a different theme/drum set artist, so don't expect another Chicago/Danny Seraphine concert every year haha. You'll just have to keep these videos on repeat until then! :)

Legendary drummers like Danny and others come to my home town every year where my percussion director hires them out and puts on a percussion concert with all of his students. I am VERY lucky to come back and play and record the concert every year!

Various musician friends for hire and local band directors who can still throw down!
Do these kids have any idea what they just experienced? Hope so.
Steve Covello I’m not sure if they understand the brevity of it (I didn’t when I was on that stage) but it’s a memory that will mature with their wisdom as they learn more from life. Looking back on those playing opportunities, I only grow more and more appreciation for what I had there on that stage.
Danny Seraphine can't have pants with pockets ... otherwise he'd always be in 'em. ;)
Which Canyon High School is this? There are four CHS's in the country.

my kids HS band doesn't sound anything like that........for instance that whole "everyone in tune" thing.....what's up with that?
fasteddie4145 lol! Well, percussion instruments usually stay in tune, and the horn players are “hired guns” that are monster players to help fill out the sound. It all comes together to create an awesome event!
they must be getting paid about a dollar a piece for a band this huge, lol...
