Cyclops has a trigger mechanism for the visor in one of his gloves.
Way more convenient!
Those stupid grooves on his forearms are as you suspected: the result of reuse. They're taken from a mold for characters with long gloves and they sculpted a line for where the glove ends. Pretty crazy that Hasbro doesn't think it would benefit from sculpting forearms for characters without long gloves, but that's Hasbro. Only thing really holding this guy back is their cheapness as those lines are unsightly, he has fingernails on his open hands because they were designed to be ungloved, and the big one, the lack of a second head with a blast effect. It should be criminal to release a Cyclops without a blast part in this day and age. Great review, hope you feel better soon!
Thank you! Appreciate the detailed response. Hasbro does the wildest things. That’s why I don’t touch their stuff really. Took me about 4 figures to realize they are better for their packaging than their figures. Haha
@@NostalgiaUnboxed same! I love the old X-Men cartoon so I’ve been buying this line and the amount of corners they cut is just crazy to me. And the price creep in their stuff puts them close to NECA, who uses tons of new parts, tons of paint, and seems to actually want their figures to look as close to the sour material as possible. Hasbro’s philosophy is clearly, “Meh, close enough.”

The one correction is its a consequence of the no-pins engineering. The entire arm is run through a single mold, as opposed to being run in different molds and need to be assembled. Instead of producing a new forearm and someone on the assembly line just attaches it, they'd need to remachine the entire arm mold.

I ordered a 3-D printed shouting Cyclops head and Optic Blast Cyclops head to go with my Cyclops (and a shouting Jean Grey head) to give my VHS Xmen some more character in toy photography

Yes Cyke can fire his optic blast without touching his visor. In a comic he made note to say he has a newly installed control built into his glove. So if he wants to he can more subtlety control/fire his optic blast with glove.

I've started imagining it like the mcu antman glove button.
If the outside of the box is always done visually interestingly like this, I'd have less of an issue with plastic free, but I absolutely hate the dumb folded cardboard inside. I've gotten tons of things that has a formed cardboard tray to cradle the item. It would look better and be more secure plus I keep my boxes for storage. I'd rather have the accessories properly held than rattling around wrapped in baking paper.

Just got the X-men 97 Cyclops last night and it’s basically this exact figure minus the cell shading but with a blast effect that plugs into an alternate, yelling head. You’re gonna definitely prefer that one.

The head sculpts are completely different on the '97 Cyclops but otherwise, yeah, it is the same figure minus the cell shading. Honestly, the '97 figures are what the VHS figures SHOULD have been.

In general, are figures in this VHS line better than alternatives for completing TAS team? I want to collect the full TAS team, and this line seems like the way to go. Although, I've heard this line is potentially not returning after the pause. That would be really disappointing. Thanks for any info or suggestions folks can provide!
They have the most accurate coloring. If you looked at Jubilee she is nearly identical to here other release, but the gloves are different colors. (Maybe more comic accurate)
Rogue hasn’t been released in VHS, but her previous Retro cardback looks great. However, her jacket should technically be green to match to animated series. So the VHS line is closest without requiring you to repaint the other figures.
@@NostalgiaUnboxed thanks for the info! I've been debating whether I should finish the team using figures from other lines or wait to see if this line continues after the pause. At this point, I think I'll wait. Hopefully prices on the other figures don't skyrocket in the meantime. Thanks again!

It’s definitely a better constructed Cyclops than the Warlock wave and the Love Triangle 3 pk. The fact those yellows bands are finally sculpted on is a huge plus but yea…no blast effect for like the last 5 cyclops releases haha I think the retro card was the only one from recent past.
Which is crazy! There are some options online from homemade sellers, but not sure on who to get or what’s involved to mount
The X Factor Cyclops was like $11 on Amazon for the longest time too! He’s gone up in value since but I think there was a peg to go on the visor

If you can get it discounted, maybe. There’s a new Cyclops coming out for the X-Men ‘97 show that has more stuff in the box (blast effect).

IT IS NOT BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!!! It is better for Hasbro's pocket book because paper packaging is cheaper, AND they can get gullible collectors to pay a higher price for it. It's actually WORSE for the environment as more paper packaging requires more trees to make it.
I’m sorry, that’s just wrong. Plastic is and always will be cheaper than paper to manufacture. Plastic does NOT biodegrade and most plastics don’t meet local recycle requirements. Paper? Well, it degrades over time and can be recycled. While single use paper is certainly still an issue it’s not nearly as invasive as paper (to our food and bodies). Plastic turns into micro-plastic which gets into our blood. In a world of “paper (cardboard) or plastic”? Choose paper. But take reusable cloth bags for shopping and buy a metal water bottle.
