    The 'one more chance; one more' scene is more heartbreaking when you realize something like that actually happened in reality.

      @hellokafkiana  7 ปีที่แล้ว +275

      yes you're right, something like that really happened in real life, I don't recall the source now but I'm sure a very similar scene was described in a letter to Elizabeth, even though in that case Anne was begging, while Henry was looking from a window

      hellokafkiana it didn't actually happen. Elizabeth wasnt at court at the time. Her mother did buy her a lot of clothes before she died.

      Alexander Ales's letter to Elizabeth claimed that it did happen on April 30th (a little early than what was showed in The Tudors), here an extract
      "Alas, I shall never forget the sorrow I felt when I saw the sainted Queen, your most religious mother, carrying you, still a baby, in her arms, and entreating the most serene King your father in Greenwich Palace, from the open window of which he was looking into the courtyard and she brought you to him. The faces and gestures of the speakers plainly showed the King was angry." (J. Denny, Anne Boleyn: A New Life Of England's Tragic Queen)
      As you can see it's not exactly the same scene but that part was surely based on this event

      Elizabeth wasn’t at court around that time. nothing shows it. and even if she was henry wouldn't care, because he only looked at his children as an extention of himself. that's why he was so proud of his first son by bessie blount, because it was a proof that it wasn't his fault, it was katherine's.

      Fun fact??? The wanted a son thing is not even the bigger picture. Of course he wanted one, but he was more worried about his wife catherine's uncle, who was very close to the catholic church and would have rule England after Henry's death. I'm not justifying Henry cause, you know, he was horrible. But he found himself in front of two choices: get divorce of Catherine or leave his dinasty died with her family. He was to selfish to follow the second option.

    Oh, I would have given anything to have had Henry VIII know that his despised daughter by Anne Boleyn, was a better monarch and ruled the country much better than her father, brother, sister, and most every monarch until George VI. She brought education, literature, and the arts to the forefront. Without Elizabeth I, we would have no Shakespeare or the modern day Church of England. She also defeated the Spanish Armada. I bet Henry would have been pea-green with envy.

      FYI which is a well known fact written everywhere, all the achievements Elizabeth I had done where all the seeds Mary Tudor had planted but didnt live long enough to see her seeds grow and blossom. Elizabeth took all the credits from Mary. the only thing she stopped doing was Mary’s trials to stop protesnatism and her promotion to the Catholic Church. And Mary was left to be remembered with her Religious conquests. Not the literature arts etc. Sadly.

      DRW1107 Mary- bloody queen- lived hell too. She was rejected by her father and forcibly abandoned by her mother. Queen Catherine was dethroned in shame and sent back to Spain, ever since leaving GB Catherine was obliged to never again see her daughter. Henry never cared about her future, when he married Catherine Howard,princess Mary was forced to be one of her maid of honour and constantly made fun because she was still unmarried. Elizabeth was a toddler when Anne was executed and she became a bastard, Mary on the other hand was the apple of Henry's eye for 17 years, until Anne came into the picture and ruined her life, her mother was cast aside, she was demoted from Princess to Lady, she was called a bastard, she was removed from the line of succession, she was also forbidden to see her mother, not even when Catherine was dying was she allowed to see her mother one last time, despite her hatred towards Anne, Mary actually cared for her little sister, Elizabeth, the relationship between the sibilings was actually pretty good (Mary, Elizabeth and Edward) despite having different mothers, it wasn't until Edward died and Mary became Queen that things got tense between Mary and Elizabeth, even though many snakes around her tried to persuade her to kill her sister Mary did not, so she still must have cared for her

    Anne Boleyn was honestly very ahead of her time. I think she wanted to be seen as an equal to Henry and was headstrong enough to be vocal about it. I think if she had stayed quiet and just acted as a servant to the king as Henry wanted, she may have survived. Even if she didn't give birth to a son, she may have just been divorced. There's a really good documentary by Lucy Worsley about Henry's six wives that's really interesting and paints a different picture of them than I had originally thought of.

Okay it's not really what they were wearing at the time, but they modernized the clothes in a beautiful manner, and added their personal touch of creation to their serie. Otherwise to comment the video, it's a good idea to do this mixture, I mean, sure those series are different from one another in terms of style, but in terms of history I can understand why you would want to reunite them both !

      I humbly disagree. Season 1, 2 and 3 of 'The Tudors,' debuted some of the most heart-wrenching, awe-inspiring and passionately performed scenes to date. In fact, the acting on 'The Tudors,' was on some next level shit. In terms of the performances delivered by actors such as Natalie Dormer (Anne Boleyn), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Queen Catherine), James Frain (Thomas Cromwell), Sam Neill (Cardinal Wolsey), etc...comparing the performances delivered by these actors to what was produced on 'Reign' is like comparing Denzel Washington in 'Glory,' to Mark Whalberg in 'The Happening.' The level of pathos delivered by the aforementioned actors, was simply absent in the 'Reign.' Anyway...going back to this video, I think the tribute to Elizabeth and Ann Boleyn was deeply touching.

      We have no idea what Anne's mother looked like, so there is no way to know how much or little they resembled each other. Facially Elizabeth appeared to resemble both her grandfather Henry VII and the Howard side of her family.

      susan webber indeed. but it can also be because of Anne Boleyns dark hair, and henry's lighter hair, that Elizabeth is a redhead. You need 4 genes instead of 2 to get red hair, and somehow, the combination of blonde and really dark hair have the highest chance to get those 4 genes.

    In our modern times, these old lovestories from the middle age, it is a bit difficult to imagine the pure beautiful romance, and the glowing passion, our beautiful actor's perform's today in the movies. King Henry was not a hot guy acording to painting's, neither was Anne, and because of the bad hygiene and body-fragrance, I dont find the hot passion, as it is painted today. Henry was after his accident very fat and had a bad smell from a wounded leg the rest of his life, it must have bin terrible to jump in his bed. Elizabeth ruled many years spite her mother's destiny, but she was no angel in her reign. Anne Boleyn became a victim during times, but she took great benefit from the kings lust for her, and the power the king gave her, had a high price for the churches in England, sorry, but I can't find any purity at the English court.....

    • @NALEtheridge92
      @NALEtheridge92 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      In his youth, when he was in the first decade of his marriage to Katherine of Aragon, Henry was epitome of hot. He was exceptionally tall, muscular, handsome, intelligent, and athletic. By the time he harried Anne Boleyn, he was middle aged, but still athletic and handsome. It was after the accident in early 1536 that Henry's mind and appearance began to radically alter. I believe the best evidence for why he turned on Anne Boleyn to come from the results of the head injury he suffered. The leg injury never healed, became a suppurating ulcer that kept him from the sport he loved, and his weight began to increase. After Jane Seymour, it is really unlikely that Henry engaged in much, if any intercourse, with any of his wives.

    • @susanwebber9247
      @susanwebber9247 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Henry VIII got his leg ulcer in a fall from his horse in 1528. He began to turn on Anne months before his jousting accident but was content enough to wait and see if the child she was having would be a boy. Unfortunately the news of Henry's accident frightened Anne so much she miscarried the child that was indeed a male foetus. It was Cromwell in fact who used Henry's disappointment and personality change caused by the jousting accident to turn Henry completely against Anne, the reason being a major argument between Cromwell and Anne about the use of the revenue from the dissolution of the Monasteries

      Henry was known to be very good looking! The paintings is the portrayals of him when he made an accident and gained so much weight and the smell came from the wounded leg from that accident. As for the bad smell, EVERYONE back in that time smell bad according to our standards if everyone was smelly perhaps the really dirty ones at that time were called the smelly ones not the normal smelly ones if that makes sense. And if u jump into couples of centuries after such as the 18th c they view the 16th c people‘s hygiene was really bad, and us in the 21st c we view the 18th are very smelly with bad hygiene ! Hence in the 18th century people rarely shower but at that time it was viewed fine and normal. Do u get the idea? So we’re in no place to judge their hygienes or how the smelled because those people in everyway arent the same as we are.

    There is a general thought that Elizabeth never mentioned her mother to anyone but one got to wonder what she may have thought of her. Did she miss her, feel angry at her or at her father for what he did? Did she ever think about giving her mother a more worthy grave? Did she ever shed a tear for her when no one was looking? Was it Anne's memory who kept her so determinded to become the Elizabeth we all know and remember? We will never know but what I am sure of, is that Anne would be damn proud of Elizabeth for proving Henry, in every aspect of her reign, wrong.

    Henry VIII would've been surprised (and proud, hopefully) to see how well Elizabeth succeeded as Queen, but he would've been disappointed that she had no children of her own and the direct Tudor line would die with her. Queen Elizabeth II is descended from the Tudors through Henry's sisters, Margaret (through the Stuarts/Hanovers) and Mary (through the late Queen Mother). I read recently that Diana was also descended from Princess Mary Tudor (not Bloody Mary). If true then Prince William and his children have a bit more Tudor blood.

    Brilliant video. I've recently watched a bit of The Tudors and Reign, and generally I am interested in history, so I really appreciate your video.By the way it's a paradox that Henry had six wives, every one of them was supposed to be some kind of a broodmare to bear him his desired sons, and in the end there were his two daughters to rule and contribute to the greatness of England anyway. What so is more, his dynasty suffered extinction, after him being husband to six different women! Just think about it, after all the troubles - breaking off the ties with Catholic Church, condinct the reformation brutally, ruining the relations with the emperor, divorcing two wives, and bathing in blood another two, having only one sickly son (I don't count the bastard son, Henry) who reigned just for few years to be succeeded by his half-sisters. That's insane. If Henry only had known then...
