  • I open up the radio and add a bit of tape below the battery for my own piece of mind.

It was nice to see the inside of the KH1. Thank you.

I was tempted to disassemble the top as well but haven’t done so yet. Maybe soon! Thanks for checking out the video.

Nice innards views. And, yeah, I agree: some sort of extra battery protection with the K tape seems necessary. Amazing amount of stuff crammed in that box. Definitely a temptation. Thankee fir the run thru. 73 de W8IJN

I think the 3.5mm jack is intentionally angled so that the key "wedges" itself in place to make a tighter fit.

Yes! Such an interesting design aspect. Thanks for checking out the video Allen.

@@N5FY I'm sure their PCB design rule checker balked at that ;-)

I did exactly the same thing to mine as soon as I got it!

Thanks. They need to make some sort of cage for that to protect the knobs.

For a radio that is too damn expensive, you would think that quality control would be of a higher quality.

tks for this - ordered 10/20, still waiting... which apparently is a good thing due to parts availability

Wasn't it easier to just put kapton tape on the battery ?

Won't the tape cause an overheating issue? No air can circulate around the components,

I can’t comment with any authority on behalf of Elecraft but with the tight tolerances in the rig and more specifically the flat area I covered, I seriously doubt air cooling internally on the direct surface of the board is needed. The PA actually sits on the backside of the front face at the top and used the top housing as a heat sync. Very cool design all around. Another fantastic rig! Thanks for checking out the video.

Is there ESD risk with the tape???

    • @N5FY

ESD is a concern anytime you are working with electronics. Precaution should be taken no doubt. Thanks for checking out the video.

Ha! That was my first thought. We used a lot of Kapton in the lab and we always passed the strips through an air ionizer before applying.

Too much expensive for what's inside, too too espensive !

I can’t say it’s cheap. I also can’t say it’s over priced. And obviously it’s worth every penny for me. No way will I be parting with this one! Thanks for watching.

Calling it too expensive doesn't make you a connoisseur, it just makes your wallet seem more philosophical than practical.

@@jeffdhartmanAs a survivor of the 60s, my wallet - and sense of financial security - has never been either practical or philosophical. Most of the time I am simply in awe that I still have most of my teeth (motorcycle gang ‘picnics’), am nominally compos mentis (Owsley’s lab), breathing unassisted & not dead. Which explains why I have something like five QRP POTA/SOTA rigs of various manufacture & complexity. And that makes the KH1 tempting. If it came with paisley decorations & recommendations from Wonder Warthog & Inspector Lee . . .
