- Vito talks about his family owned and operated pizzeria since 1966, based out of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. They serve primarily and are known for their plain rounds and squares with no other specialty slices available, simple old fashion slices. This is the story of how they started.
sicilian looked fire
Incredible.
Long live the old school joints
No doubt
I’m from Chicago, no judging please. But this looks great. Been eating pizza for 65 years. Still remember smelling the pizza outside a “parlor” when getting out of the car. Then walking in and smelling more of heaven. I bet this is the same. With the new places now and $40 pies , forget about it. Price of goods and rent went insane, but no excuse for a bland dough for example. Times have changed no doubt. Milk used to come from cows, now it’s almonds…smiling. I’m jealous, wish I was there. Best of luck.
Chicago Chris
Hey Chris! This pizza is very old school and nostalgic for many people. I do enjoy the new school pizza in nyc but the classics like this one is great
Thank you for sharing your story. It's really inspiring. Wish your business another 50 year of success!!!
I’ll let vito know, thanks! Glad you enjoyed
LOVE Pizza Wagon. Had an ex that lived nearby and honestly I miss this more than him 😂
Unfortunately it's just too far for me to go back nowadays, but will forever be a great memory!
Hahahaha best comment here. Stop by once in a while, the son in law runs this place now
Classic NYC style slice. Took my cousin visiting from Central America here to try a slice. She loved it. She wants to come again when in the USA.
For a classic slice, this is it. Everyone saids joes but I disagree. Pizza wagons the best
Your pizza business is a family tradition keep up the good
Great family and fantastic pizza
WOW I would love to get a taste of one of those Sicilians, It look so perfect and has a good sauce to cheese ratio. Man I miss NYC.
Nothing beats Brooklyn pizza
Use to take the bus that stopped directly in front of the store and always grabbed a slice on my way home from school. Currently live in another state but whenever me and my wife go home (she grew up in Bay Ridge as well) we go to Pizza Wagon and Gino's on 5th and 75th (her spot).
I use to take the B1 bus right in front. Always my first stop as well when I got off. Gino’s pizza is great as well
I used to live around the block from Pizza Wagon! The best no frills pizza spot in NYC for sure. As simple as it comes and it should be because it’s that good. I am one of those people that relocated for work but still manage to stop in when I can for a few slices when I’m in the area.
I love that they are open late too.
This is always my first stop in bay ridge whenever I’m running errands. This entire pizzeria is nostalgic, their slices are so good
I always go there it’s in bay ridge Brooklyn they open until 4 am
I think they close a little earlier now but yes, great late night spot
So relaxing to watch
Glad you enjoyed
Grew up most of my life in NYC never thought anyone anywhere had better pizza until I had new haven, Connecticut apizza. That said, I would die for a pizza wagon slice or two or three + calzone.
The pizzas very different but I agree, new haven has amazing pizza.
Those rolled pizza's at the end look delicious 😊
They’re really good, often overlooked since most people go for their slices
Very cool, I’ve had a few slices from them in my day. Always great !!! But now that I’ve retired and moved away, No more Pizza Wagon pizza for me. So sad !
Hard to beat Brooklyn pizza, maybe come visit one day
Yummy! Pizza Wagon pizza is the best in all of South Brooklyn!
The best, their slices are always excellent
This is exactly how I was trained and made both NY styles, Neapolitan and Sicilian. That place is a winner winner pizza dinner!
Too bad it’s not a Neapolitan
True, but the classic NY pizza evolved from the Neapolitan pie.
A great slice, worth commuting to
@Daniël I see a big pizza oven👀
@@SOLDGREEN its not but they have their thing and I'd enjoy it. I'm an outsider of NY looking at pies and I like all that have history but Naples-style is what I do daily and love most.
I'm pleased by tradition and commitment.
best looking slice of cheese pizza i ever did see
Agreed!
I came out of Staten Island on the Brooklyn expressway, traffic was stopped on the bridge,a pizza 🍕 truck pulled up beside me,sort of like the food truck 🚚,2 guys inside were talking and I rolled down the window and asked for a slice, they looked at each other and the one guy goes to the back, comes back with a slice and hands it to me,it was good 👍. Pizza 🍕 and pastries 🍰 and coffee ☕️ are to be experienced there. Not too keen on Chicago pizza. Craziest thing I've seen yet, cross bronx expressway south, guy gets out of his car, takes a whiz, gets back in his car like nothing happened
A pizza truck?!? Wow thats a first, gonna keep an eye out for that. How was it?
The food looks amazing!
Definitely is. A must try
Great neighborhood pizza spot!
Yes! Simple but so good
Oh Lord, those Sicilian Squares!! ❤️😛😋
They’re excellent but I love their round pies more
Best pizza ever. Always go there . Facts 💯❤🔥🔥👍
Always my first stop if I’m in Bay Ridge
Good stuff, like Jersey shore boardwalk pizza
For sure! It’s excellent
cool. That was fun to watch. :)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed
A beautiful place
One of the best!
That looks good as hell
A must try
I think there are over a dozen pizza shops in Bay Ridge. My personal favorites there are Espresso Pizza and Elegante, both got that old school look like Pizza Wagon.
Elegante is great, haven’t had espresso pizza. There’s so many great pizzerias in that area
Gotta try this spot
So good
2:34. OMG that looks so incredibly good. I wish there was pizza like this in Kingsport, TN, but unfortunately...
with the right practice you can make it home i do every day
It’s so easy to make yourself
Gotta come to nyc for the best
pizza wagon is the best!
One of my favs!
good video
Thanks!
3:19 best part of the video
No doubt
You are not going to believe this and I am not some sort of crackpot. This is absolutely true: 100%. I knew Phil personally. I too worked at Pizza Wagon when I was a kid. I know where Phil hid the cash out of his till. When I worked there, the ovens were on the other side of the store. Now here is something that you will not believe: If it weren't for me, Pizza Wagon would probably not exist. I bet its a story Phil never told anyone. But it has to do with the B-63.
Separate but related, when I got older I opened a small bicycle shop on 86st and FHP. Phil bought three ladies bikes from me.
He was a great man and we remained good friends until I moved away.
Amazing! Ill tell vito when I see him, lots of history in that pizzeria
Dam good looking reg slice
Its one of my favorites for a classic slice
I want the calzone now. That looked amazing.
Their sausage and peppers one is fire
@@nycfoodblog I believe you oh my God I want those calzones
@@robintaylor485try one if you ever stop by. Bring some home to put in the freeze so you can have some later too if you like em
@@nycfoodblog cant you mail me some calzones if I pay you
Hahaha, I dont think they’ll be good by the time it gets to you
Nothing like having relatives working for ya.....
His daughters worked there and his wife. Now his son in law runs it
Love to have a Sicilian pie right now.😉
Theirs is excellent
Yes I’ll have one
Must have at least two slices if you go! 😂
@@nycfoodblog Yes I’ll have a pie 😊
Plain pie, best pie.
No doubt

Yup..... two slice !!!!
Two slices minimum for sure!

🎉
If only they were 2916 miles closer.
😂 damn
Making me wanna crush a 🍕 pizza!
No doubt 🍕
The best pizza in Brooklyn.
👍
THOSE OVEN IS THE BEST , back in my teenager years in 80S worked in pizza place had those kinda the oven was THE BEST pizza comes out of it & then in 90s changed to those oven U put one side rolls out another side ..F*n pizzas coming out dry & awful ,lost alots customers ...NEVER BUYS piazzas from those kinda oven for rest of my life , these oven & fire pits ones IS THE BEST pizza u can get hands down!
Facts!
Why you do this to me and I'm all the way west. Time to take a ✈️
See you on the east coast! 👋🍕
7.3
Deserves higher!
THOSE BAY RIDGE SHEEPSHEAD BAY TOOLS ARE IDK HOW YOU SAY FUGAZZI
😆
why are there wooden pallets on the floor? is that like an Italian thing?
I think it was super popular in the 70s and 80s, they haven’t really changed the layout much
😇
❤
Hello if the owner of this pizzeria watches the video I would like too know you mentioned your wife family from Campania Italy what town my family also from Campania Italy my mom from gallo Italy
Ill let vito know if he’s in next time!
@@nycfoodblog Thats awesome thank you so much
You got it
STOP SAYING "AND"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so much
😂
Pizza is white!!!!! It’s undercooked!!! Needs to be brown!!! Always well-done and use 30% less cheese! Save money at the same time. It’s also too THICK! Typical crap! go look at AmORE pizza in Flushing queens! They only sell 1 type pizza and it’s always sold before it comes out of the over. 6 pies at once all day going in the oven
Have you tried it before? It definitely is quality. I personally prefer a little well done but not everyone else does, you can always ask them to hear it up till it is. I love the amount of cheese on it tbh, theirs is super sharp
That is not a pizza. Certainly not the best pie in New York either. I would have to be starving
Disagree. It’s one of the best plain new york slices, none of this new school crap, none of that basil leaves on too for all the Emilys and Codys from Wisconsin. Old fashion and delish
Born and raised in brooklyn.. overrated place
There’s many great pizzerias in Brooklyn, we all have our preferences too. Where do you normally get your slice from?
Slice from Ginos...Square from Pizza Wagon
@@jerrodhoward9162 Gino's is great too, been around just as long
Mola Di Bari beautiful part of Italy pure majestic ocean front my folks were from there also
Sounds like a lovely place!
You could say whatever you want bad about Connecticut but we got that pizza bro. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I went to new haven last year, their pizza was fire tbh
7.4 , everybody knows the rules .
They deserved much higher

Hi Chris, I hope you’ll visit one day, its a great spot. Not too many old school pizzerias like this around. It does smell amazing when you walk in
