    Scriabin's 24 preludes were modeled after Frédéric Chopin's own set of 24 Preludes, Op. 28: they also covered all 24 major and minor keys and they follow the same key sequence: C major, A minor, G major, E minor, D major, B minor and so on, alternating major keys with their relative minors, and following the ascending circle of fifths.
    This set, which covers a period of eight years and comprises Scriabin's largest collection of keyboard works, and as such contains a wide sampling of the music from his early years. These preludes are often played in piano recitals, since it features preludes ranging from very easy to difficult.

      He has the same problem as Schubert, Schumann, and Debussy: Everyone presumes that their orchestral works are the most important thing they wrote. Those three composers as well as Scriabin wrote some of the most brilliant and imaginative keyboard music in the repertoire, but folks would rather hear something prosaic for orchestra rather than something challenging, and ultimately stimulating, for the piano.

    Adding my many thanks for the sheer effort of matching sheet music with audio. Scriabin is perhaps the one composer I wish we had recordings. It's so enigmatic with its continual "rising", odd rhythms, strange chords and philosophical mishmash. His synesthesia allowed his to literally "paint" the music he "heard" as colors which explains a lot. Despite the fact that this was an early opus, all the Scriabinesque characteristics are present - the long left hands (with the 5-1-5 fingering), the floating quality, frequent off notes, the beauty. I could listen to this all day and as for playing my wife says it sounds like music written for a single person, not a crowd.

    • @derby2510
      @derby2510 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scriabin's synesthesia is philosophical, not something he experienced. He did not paint music. It's people being confused as to how literal to take his music and color theory.

    [Very similar to Chopin's Etude op 25 no 3 or to second moviment of the third Chopin Sonata op 58 : scherzo molto vivace]

    That change between mm.12-13 in the Eb major Prelude. It's little things like this that I'm only starting to notice after about the 100th time listening through these pieces. For context, 26:35-26:45, but it's that key change. He does something VERY similar in his 4th Sonata (2nd movement) where there's this feeling of ascending. It's just this pure satisfaction. Hard to explain... anyways... listen to that part in that Prelude, you'll know what I mean :PP

    The first Prelude has always fascinated me ... if Scriabin only knew that decades later one could compose without a time signature or bar lines - this would a perfect piece for such a concept. It's almost like he was a musical time traveler stuck in his own period ...
