      Merritt thank you for serving.
What do you recall from this deployment?
I thought the boxing matches, fanta drinks, and projects looks exciting!

Well we worked about 12 hours a day and since it was in the summer, blazing hot and lots of bugs. We were ready battalion that year so add the extra military readiness training too. That was the year they had that bad vaccine for the Hong Kong flu, made a bunch of us sick. I could go on with the bad stuff but it was the best of times too. Like the fight in the enlisted men's club when a French Naval ship came in with a couple dozen sailors picking a fight with some seal team, marines and seabees. Yep the French Navy lost that battle. Lots of good times when we got a day off too. I think the previous deployment to Okinawa was better though, just sayin.

@@thecelt471 I had never been so sick! If memory serves, it knock about 1/2 the Battalion down towhere we lost readiness status. Great memories of Puerto Rico. Thanks for serving.

@@tobyschield5784 yeah I was pretty sick too. I remember we were already not at full strength anyway, then everyone seemed to get sick. But it was my last deployment and due to injuries it was the end of my military career as they say. But good memories anyway.

Hey! I was part of MCB 6 who built that base in 68 and MCB40 who came later and made the rock crusher as well as the extension of the phone exchange. It's good to see crazy Sea Bees was still the norm in 76. I heard the whole place was washed away by a big hurricane than came ashore at that exact spot. I haven't seen any more pictures of the base since yours, but it was good to see them. Can Do, Carry On!

As far as I've talked to my chiefs and 1sts, it sounds like we've deployed there as recently as the 90s. I can only speak on behalf of west coast bees, but we rotate the pacific, mostly homebase is shields in okinawa.
Yes I agree, its really wild to see how the Bees some things don't change even until today... barbecues, goofing around, drinks, project dogs, and alfa company always working (not Charlie 🤣). A lot of changes too. Ill be uploading a crewserve weapons course i just returned from thursday, in addition to a ton of videos i need to get on my butt and upload/edit sometime from Timor Leste, Thailand, and Okinawa.
So Fred, what do you reflect on your building the rock crusher and barracks at PR?

I see where parts of this deployment were to Diego Garcia, GTMO, and Andros Island. When I was in the Bees ('70-'74) my deployments with NMCB-71 were to GTMO, Diego Garcia, Andros Island, and Naples Italy. I thought every one of them were great. BTW, we were the 2nd group to go to The Rock (Diego Garcia).
