I didn't like the movie much.. but the music was everything you could feel the agony of the vampires which Anne Rice's books were so famous for. Just because an african american woman was cast , does not necessarily mean Aaliyah was portraying Akasha as black woman the monolithic race is known today. Egyptian rule aside, much like Cleopatra, Akasha married into the kingdom as a political union, so she wasn’t even north African, but this doesn’t mean Aaliyah is incapable of portraying an ethnic woman from a nation long gone.
