She obviously knows that if she goes in the crate, she gets a treat. Try loosely closing the door when she does go in and after you’ve given her treats. Gradually increase the time she stays in with you right there with her before you open the door and let her out. Work up to latching the door, then latching and walking out of sight then returning right away., increase slowly time spent before returning, etc. Get a soft blanket and sleep on it a couple of nights so it has your scent. Put that in the crate with her. She’ll have your scent as well as having learned that good things happen when she goes in the crate.
Hicks Homestead - thank you so much for the great tips and thoughtful advice! I really appreciate it and I will definitely try what you suggested. Hopefully over time she will accept the crate and it will become a safe and comfortable place for her. Thanks again and have a great week! 😊 ~ Josie
She is so doggone cute!! And smart! She is progressing so nicely for only 3 months old!! She'll get used to the crate and it will become her own, private, quiet space in the house. When you give a command though, you should always say her name first. Scarlett come! Scarlett sit!! Your praise is great with the treat reinforcement. Keep up the great work!
Deb's Way - thank you, I appreciate the feedback! I think she’s doing pretty well for only 11 weeks so I’m happy with her progress. Thanks for the reminder to use her name. I definitely forget that sometimes, LOL! 🤷♀️ Thanks for following along Deb and have a great week❣️ ~ Josie
Itty bitty Homestead - Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging feedback! I bet your pup is a doll! Scarlet is definitely a sweetheart and we love her so much ❤️ ~ Josie
Crazed Family Homestead - yes she is! Her mama’s 45 to 50 pounds so that’s kind of what I’m expecting. Thanks for watching and have a great week! 😊 ~ Josie
Don’t give up on the crate, just keep working with her, she will get it! If you can break the separation anxiety now that would be great! She is going to do great with the goats and chickens!! So encouragement for you, Ellie is now one year old and we no longer need the crate, she can be safely left out, even at night!
The Neu Adventure - thank you for the encouragement! I’ll keep trying and hopefully it will get better 🤷♀️ I can’t wait to introduce her to the goats this weekend 😬😳🤣 !!!
Hey Josie. She is doing great. It's been a bit since I stopped by, sure am glad I did. Keep up with the good work and before you know it she'll be there with everything. You guys take care. Dean
R Spryng Farm & Country - thank you Krystol! She is growing like crazy and still wants to go under the couch ... but I usually have to help pull her out!😆. I give her another week and then she’ll have to find a new spot to sleep, LOL!
Mountain Trail Homestead - awesome ! I love the name and thought it was appropriate especially since she was born on Valentine’s Day ❤️ Thanks for watching and have a great week! ~ 😊 Josie
@@OzarkMountainGoats its my pleasurable. I learned a lot about kennel training and it looks enjoyable for the dog...much different than how i have done it in the past.

looks like your doing a great job! They say to put a radio on at night not sure if that works or not. But there is some TH-cam videos for dogs. Check them out and let us know how she reacts. Have a blessed week!
2 1/2 Acres - she sleeps in our room at night and is doing just great so I don’t think I’ll need a radio for that. It’s during the daytime. But I have kept the TV or radio on but so far that hasn’t really helped. 😆🤷♀️ But that’s OK, I’ll keep working at it and put out weekly updates on our little darling, LOL ❤️ have a great week Mark! ~ Josie
The joys of puppyhood...she will be more comfortable in the crate as she gets older. I would say get her with the goats as soon as you can...chickens too. Do you work with a lead? She is lovely.
Fiona C - thank you! She’ll meet the goats when we bring them home this weekend and the chickens soon after that, as they are not fully grown yet. Anyway, hopefully all will go well. I do use a lead with her sometimes but I need a longer one. Have a great day!
Dayana Charles-Joseph - hi and thank you for your question. I actually used a cat carrier for the first couple of nights and then I put her in a 30 inch crate with a divider because the 30 inch was way too big for her as a puppy. Her current crate is 42 inches and it is plenty big enough for her. She’s a standard size golden doodle and weighs about 45 pounds. Hope this helps. Have a great weekend❣️
@@OzarkMountainGoats thank you for the prompt response. I have a 4 month old and just brought a 42 inch and will be using the divider until she get bigger. Did you also use a play pen? We are planning on crate training her and her crate will be in the family room. Should I consider getting another crate for my bedroom? Or should I just sleep in the family room the first couple of nights? Not sure what the right thing to do as to not bring about bad behavior.
@@ForeverBlue75 - no, I never used a playpen. But I did keep her on a house leash and basically didn’t let her out of my sight unless she was in her crate for the first few months. I have a second crate in the bedroom. It’s also 42 inches. It just makes my life easier. Really, I think it’s more a personal preference because there are a lot of people who let their dogs sleep in bed with them. And that’s perfectly fine if that’s what you’re wanting to do. I don’t really think there’s a wrong answer - it’s just whatever your preference is. 😊
@@OzarkMountainGoats I don’t plan on having her sleep in my bed (dh wound take to kindled to that....lol). However I want to make sure she feels decried at night and avoid any nighttime accidents. So I thought about putting the crate in the bedroom so I can be more aware of her movements at night just in case she wants to receiver herself.
@@ForeverBlue75 - for sure! Jim wouldn’t let Scarlet in our bed either, lol, but I do think your puppy would be much happier in your bedroom so I would personally have a second crate. Good luck with your baby 😊
