    Chris is a country music singer/songwriter from Kentucky. He's written songs across different genres for other people. His wife, who is also his backup singer, talked him into performing his own music. With a voice like that, we are most grateful that he listened to her.

      Well said!! I did a deep dive into that once, and both go all the way back, way further, than I expected, to slavery, Ireland and Scotland!! Just before the turn of the century, after the slaves were "freed", many fled to bigger cities in the North, where they weren't exactly welcomed with open arms. Scottish and Irish immigrants weren't looked at very favorably at that time either, so all three shared blighted areas, or slums, of the big cities. There and then is where a convergence of cultures happened, that gave us some of the greatest gifts ever, in the Arts, that are solely U.S. born.
      The convergence of traditional Irish dancing (think Michael Flatley) merged with Hambone, a style of dance/music created by the slaves, who were rarely allowed instruments, where they would slap their thighs, stomach and chest to get different sounds, while also stomping their feet, while others sang. The combination of those two created tap dancing. Similarly, the combination of Scottish and Irish folk songs, merged with field, or work songs, the former slaves would sing, created Bluegrass music. After the turn of the century and all through WWI, Bluegrass took off like wildfire, not only in big cities, but into the honkytonk little bars of the rural areas of the country. Unfortunately that was in part due to Bill Monroe, a great Bluegrass musician, but a white man from Kentucky, who happened to write the first Bluegrass song that was a radio hit, so he alone often gets the credit for being the grandaddy of Bluegrass music.
      After WWII, Bluegrass was huge, but it started to fork, one leg of the fork stayed out in the rural area and eventually developed into Country and Western, and some Blues, the other fork migrated back to the urban population and also became the Blues, which quickly morphed into Rhythm & Blues (R&B) which then forked again into rockabilly, then rock n roll, and so on and so on and so on.....lol. Pretty cool stuff huh.

    • @wvob6752
      @wvob6752 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Didn't get its roots only from black folks. It's derived from a melting pot of cultures. Mountain or hillbilly music (Appalachian), in particular, combines the ballads and folksongs brought to the South by Irish immigrants and other immigrants from the British Isles in the 18th and 19th Centuries and the rhythmic influences of African immigrants. Great combination of all the folks. It wouldn't be much without the blues, at least in my opinion.

    If you're a singer, you'll appreciate the fact that Chris is one of those few freaks that can actually sound BETTER live than his studio efforts. He's ridiculous. You'll also notice that he's a fairly serious guitar player. Check out his "Live at the Bing Lounge" performance of Sometimes I Cry and also his song I Was Wrong from the Austin City limits show. You won't be disappointed.
    Another Stapelton nugget is that the on-point female harmonies are Chris' singer/songwriter wife Morgane who's performed with many big name artists. Like his wife, Chris has been a ghost-writer (for other artists) for years with over 170 recorded songs to his credit. Morgane has written hits (including a #1) for country greats such as Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Pickler, etc.
    With FIVE kids sharing that DNA, the future of country music is looking pretty good.

    Yes, Chris' live performances are amazing! His wife sings that harmony with him a lot of the time and they blend perfectly. I watch a lot of music reaction videos, but this is first time I have run across your channel. I like your reviewing style and you can sing too by the sound of your voice singing along and your runs were good. I subscribed to here more of what you have to say.

Try ANY of these live performances by Chris Stapleton: I Was Wrong (Austin City Limits) ; Nothing Compares to U (performed in tribute 6 hours after Prince's passing); (acoustic) Barely Alive; (acoustic) Fool Me Again; Nobody's Lonely Tonight (Jimmy Kimmel Live); (acoustic) Sometimes I Cry; (acoustic) What Are You Listening To; It's a Man's World. The inspiration for this song is actually Etta James, in fact the only thing the same drom the original song released by David Allen Coe, is the lyrics, the music is almost note for note, "I'd Rather Go Blind" by Etta.

      DUDE YOU HAVE NO CLUE!!! COVERS ARE VERY MUCH A PART OF COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!!! MANY OF THE GREATEST SONGWRITERS IN COUNTRY MUSIC HISTORY HAVE SCORED #1 HITS WITH SONGS THAT THEY DID NOT PERSONALLY WRITE!!!!! 1 SUCH EXAMPLE. IS AMARILLO BY MORNING (GEORGE STRAIT) .

    • @josemelendez517
      @josemelendez517 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikebeasley6447 Mike Beasley listen bud, I did not say Coe wrote the song, but he is the original singer of it. Dean Dillion and Linda Hargrove are responsible for writing and creating it. Coe was the merely the first to sing and release the song, therefore every rendition of Tennessee Whiskey that followed was a cover song. So the next time you go to leave a snarky comment and jump down someone's throat, maybe you should read what was said carefully, or else you'll come off looking like a jackass....again.
