One thing that Dave didn't mention but that is VERY important in tournament play is that when changing phases both players must "agree" to move to the next phase. More specifically the turn player has the sole right to _attempt_ to move to the next phase; they must declare their intention to move to the next phase, however if their opponent wishes to do something before the phase changes they may activate a card or effect at this time. This stops the phase from changing and the turn player remains in the current phase, and may then attempt to proceed to the next phase again. This _does not_ mean that the opponent can simply refuse to let the phase change for no reason, they must have a card or effect that they wish to activate.
You should do the "how to read a card" video first as otherwise people might have more difficulty understanding anything regarding the use and purpose of cards in future videos.

Hey Dave, the video is good and informative but I'm going to be "that guy" and point out a minor error that you surely made just out of distraction at 11:55: the players first play the minigame to decide who starts first, then they draw their 5 cards. Is it possible for Yugioh to have a clock like in chess where you clock out when you want to end a phase and the opponent has to acknowledge by clocking out? Or is this too tedious?
Quick question, I had two cards on the field at the start of my battle phase. One card, I just fusion summond that turn, the other, a monster I normal set in defense position on a previous turn. I attacked with the fusion summoned and the oppenent pulled a trap card which let to a series of set ups for him, once he was done, it was still my battle phase. Okay guys- hear me out. And disclaimer: I haven't even looked at or participated in this game since literally 2008. So what I'm about to say could be complete bullshit nonsense and make no sense and feel free to tell me to get the Hell outta' here (lol)- but a couple of weeks ago I randomly decided to get back into this game. And in my research of all of these new mechanics I'm realizing that there is an element of simplicity that I can already tell that I miss when it comes to this game. Yes, this game is praised for its complexity and I get that. That's why this isn't necessarily a just-for-kid's game and is very strategic and complex. But things can be complex and simple at the same time- they aren't always mutually exclusive. A game can be complex while utilizing the simplest of principles- and I miss some of the simplicity. Again, y'all are the experts and have been playing a lot longer than me- so please feel free to tell me if you disagree. Or maybe I'll be surprised and some of you agree a little bit? Or maybe some of you love XYZ and hate Pendulums for example. But I guess my main point is that it seems the game has evolved so much to the point that there is somewhat of a power imbalance between what type of mechanics/strategy one player chooses to utilize compared to another player. If Player A has an old school deck with mainly effect monsters they won't have a chance when dueling with Player B who is utilizing XYZ, Link, Pendulum, Synchro monsters. Or am I completely wrong about that?? Are there any advanced players out there who choose to not use some of the newer mechanics altogether? Or do most of you just create different decks using different types and play around to see which ones you ultimately prefer? I guess I'm just hoping that the people who choose to use certain mechanics aren't able to significantly be at an advantage in the game. That would seem unfair. Hopefully I'm not talking out of my ass and I think I am. So I will leave now LMAO. I think I'm just getting confused and frustrated in my research of all this new stuff and it's making me self conscious and I just feel desperate for answers. I feel like I would feel better if I heard an advanced player flat out say "XYZ are shit" or "Pendulums are shit" LOL
