Terms not mentioned but were considered in the discord:
Armades - A monster that prevents the opponent from activating cards/effects when battling, or during the battle phase (Armades Keeper of the Boundaries, Utopia the Lightning, Ancient Gear monsters)
Book - A card with an effect to flip another monster face-down (Book of Moon, Book of Eclipse, Ultimate Conductor Tyranno)
Mistake - An effect that prevents a player(s) from adding cards from deck to hand (Mistake, Thunder King Rai-Oh, Thunder Dragon Colossus)
Honest - An effect that would greatly boost a monster's ATK when a given monster battles (Honest, Aleister the Invoker, Elemental HERO Honest Neos, Zushin the Sleeping Giant)
Foolish - A card/effect to send a specific card from deck to grave (Extra/Foolish Burial/Goods)
"On Legs" - Usually used to describe monsters based on their effects if similar to a spell/trap effect (Evolzar Dolkka = Solemn Strike on legs)
Floating - effect that triggers in the GY after being sent there from the field

@@thatman666 any continuous spell or trap or field spell that is not on the field at time of resolution if it activates an effect on placing the card down will resolve without an effect, this ruling came into existence in fire fist format when you mst the opponent's Tenki, they don't get to search, so effectively, MST negated Tenki. Similarly with Union Hangar, and Fiendish Chain in response to your effect activation, Call of the Haunted, etc.

Yeah inherent vs non-inherent confuses me a lot still. Glad I'm not alone.
To help out, it has more to do with problem solving text than if a card can Special Summon itself or not. So, a inherent summon is an summon effect that does not have " : " or " ; " (example, Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan), any other is a non-inherent summon so they start Chains. To understand " : " and " ; " search for "condition, cost and effect" to learn more.
It's stupid to have the distinction in the first place. It just adds an extra step that's unneeded, and makes it harder for new players to get into the game. Especially children, the main focus of Konami.

Honestly I prefer "unrespondable" to "spell speed 4" I've found it's just easier for newer players to understand, and it helps me help them learn what to look for on a card that they can or can't do something about
Bounce is definitely MTG as well, for a similar reason as Mill.
Speaking of Mill, as of their upcoming Core Set, they've officially made Mill as an action word to mean...exactly as we've taken it to mean.

I think people use "Towers" instead of Venominaga because 1) Towers was much more relevant during its time and 2) it's easier to say. My 2¢ on the matter. But you're totally right, Venominaga was first, and super lit haha

Infernity Barrier more specifically usually refers to searchable counter traps in an archetype (tho you will hear it used for non-searchable ones as well, just not as often). Infernity Barrier was the original searchable in-archetype counter trap for the most part.

Fun fact: In Duel Links, Neos is a pseudo-Garnet, since a shit ton of decks use Neos Fusion, but it can be used from hand so it's not a term.
Faced an invoked mekk-knight deck today and saw Neos when I got to Drones them (there's another term that could have been used, since I wasn't playing Spyral) and put it on top so they'd draw it. At least it technically -1 them

For inherent vs. non-inherent summons I have a weird one for you. I think Parallel eXceed has both inherent and non-inherent summons. Because it's first effect is "If you Link Summon: You can Special Summon this card from your hand to your zone that Link Monster points to." which looks kinda like an inherent summon to me. But it's second effect "If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Parallel eXceed" from your Deck." and that looks like a non-inherent special summon.
I'm probably completely wrong and both are non-inherent summon, but I wanted to check with the community because we're probably going to see lots of Parallel eXceed play coming in the future. I know the first effect has a : in it, but the wording sounds like an inherent summon to me.
Edited: Upon looking up more cards I am pretty sure both effects are non-inherent summons. The first effect is pretty similar to a BA monster only changing "If you control no spell/trap cards" for "If you Link Summon". So it looks like Solemn Judgment can't negate either special summon effect, but Solemn Strike can negate the monster effects.
"Inherent" summons are officially referred to as "summons that don't start a chain" so the video's example of BLS banishing a LIGHT and DARK doesn't have a colon or semi colon, even though the banishing is the cost. Another one is Ultimate Conductor Tyranno banishing 2 Dinos.
For 1 example of each in 1 deck: Cyber Dragon has an inherent summon. Galaxy Soldier's ability to summon itself is not an inherent summon, it activates. So as an example Toadally Awesome can't negate Cyber Dragon but can negate Galaxy Soldier (and set it) Solemn Strike could negate either of them
Hey Dave huge fan despite us having differences in our new UA deck profile (would love to show you mine) but the best way to describe inherent and non inherent is the card has either summoning conditions or summoned via effect, generally a card with summoning conditions do not have a colon or semi colon, this makes things easy to discern for example QuickDraw synchron states “You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by sending 1 monster from your hand to the Graveyard.) whereas galaxy soldier says, “You can send 1 other LIGHT monster from your hand to the GY; Special Summon this card from your hand in Defense Position.” Both have similar ways to summon but QuickDraw synchron is summoned via a summoning condition whereas galaxy soldier is summoned via an effect
One that confused me when I first ran into it was "tutor" which apparently is a Magic the Gathering term originally that means search
One of the five colors, Black, has lots of cards like Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, (the recently reprinted so it's no longer ~$400) Grim Tutor that all search any card from your deck. All for different mana/life point costs

I would like to add a quick addendum to the number 1 spot on the list: ROTA can also be described as an "E-Call," which is in reference to "E - Emergency Call," a normal spell card that let's you add 1 Level 4 or lower Elemental Hero monster from your deck to your hand.
The two terms are interchangeable, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
I dont ever use that because it makes no sense to call a card by one that is newer.
No, rota was the first, and therefore supersedes e call. If anything it would be fossil dig instead.

Was expecting to see terms like "floating" in here, ngl that's the term I struggled mist figuring out when I got back into yugioh a few years back after a long hiatus

so, 2 things.
First: I feel Floodgate should be used as a multi-game term. in MTG, they are commonly called Stax pieces, referring to the resource denial card smokestacks. This term encompasses Hate Bears, (creatures which have effects that lockout abilities, usually at low cost) Soft Stacks pieces, (stuff that slows down the pace of the game, without actively crippling your opponents resources, with the chance of turning off whole decks. this is most similar to yu-gi-ohs floodgates. cards like Null Rod or Blood Moon are examples of that) and hard Stax pieces. (Stuff that actively attacks/deprives your opponents of resources, like smokestacks or winter orb. Rivalry of warlords in yu-gi-oh could compare to this, due to its second effect actually destroying each other type of monster) I feel soft Stax pieces in MTG should be called floodgates, and am fine if you adopt the term Stax for Floodgates that actively remove resources from opponents.
Second, you are 100% correct on the origin of Mill being millstone from MTG. Fun Fact about the term though: despite being a fan term for years, WotC Refused to use it as a keyword, trying to find one that would better fit the Idea of the mechanic flavorwise. It was only with the "playtest cards" in the Con exclusive versions of mystery boosters, and Core 2021 (which is only just being released when I write this) that it finally won out and became an official game term. all because of Millstone.

How I explain it -
Inherent summon: all extra deck monsters (except fusion monsters that can't "contact fuse" [another term you should have mentioned!]) are inherent summons, as are main deck monsters that can special summon themselves without activating an effect (there is no colon in their special summon text), such as Chaos monsters and Infernoids. These are the special summons that can be negated by Solemn Strike.
Non-inherent summons: fusion (except contact fusion) and ritual monsters, spell/trap effects that summon a monster, or a monster effect that special summons another monster are not "inherent summons" because they are activated effects. Also, a monster that can special summon itself and there *is* a colon in its text regarding the summon (e.g. Burning Abyss..."If you control no Spell/Trap card*:* You can Special Summon this card from your hand). These summons cannot be negated by Solemn Strike because you cannot negate a resolved card effect (though you can chain Solemn Strike to the activation of a monster effect that would special summon a monster).
Also: ROTA = Spell/Trap that adds a monster of a type/attribute/archetype to your hand, Stratos = monster that adds a monster of type/attribute/archetype to your hand.
It's funny how the standard pop/spin/bounce/mill terms are basically standard TCG terms everywhere...we used those in .hack//ENEMY for the same effects (including the much-despised "Fish Bounce" deck that Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground field spell banned...one of only 2 cards to ever get banned in that game).
I mentioned extra deck summons.
@@davinator1212 The hard part I had getting across to players was what actually *is* an effect and not a (as is the official term) "summoning procedure." The TCG should do what the OCG does and flag monsters with summoning procedures as "special summon" in the type line (along with Toon/Flip).
Funnily enough "Mill" was just keyworded in the latest Core set for Magic the Gathering. Only took them, what, 25 years of it being slang to adopt it?

High Priestess came out with the non-inherent effect of summoning herself by revealing 3 spellbooks in hand. Ok that's cool, makes sense that Konami would just make all summons like this non-inherent...

I really dislike the term, 'Spell-Speed 4'. There's no such thing as a Spell-Speed that cannot be responded too. Spell-Speed 3's can still be chained to by cards of the same Spell-Speed. But 'Spell-Speed 4's can't be chained too by a 'Spell-Speed 4'.

Addendum to the Garnet thing that has annoyed me for years. So many people used to call *Speedroid Taketomborg* a Garnet. It wasn’t. A Garnet is not just combo piece; it’s one that prevents its combo from working if drawn. Important distinction.

Just a quick look at “inherent summons” from a judges perspective (also a brief explanation for why judges HATE that term.)
To tell if a summon is “inherent” or not, you just need to check for one simple thing. Is an effect activating to summon the monster. The most obvious “non-inherent” summons like Ritual a Fusion summons have a card that activates, and the monster gets summoned while the card is resolving. Many monsters do not activate in order to summon themselves, but some do. So how can you tell if it activates or not?
Look for a colon or semi-colon. If there is one, it’s an effect that activates. I’d there isn’t one, it doesn’t activate, and in the cast of summons are a summoning procedure that does not start a chain.
Now most judges do not like saying “inherent summon” because it just adds confusion. Some judges go so far as saying all fan-made terms are bad, but “inherent summon” is easily one of the worst offenders that’s almost universally hated. The thing is, the official term is very clear in what an “inherent summon” actually is without adding something new for players to worry about. Players just don’t like using it because it’s much longer to say.
For those curious, the official term is “summon that does not start a chain.”
Summon that does not start a chain is a terrible term. It's not a term it's an explanation of one. This is why people don't like it because it's too long and clumsy.

The whole reason "inherent summon" is a confusing term is because it doesn't actually mention any of the game mechanics at play. Konami at one point actually had a term for it called "built-in summon," but it has been deliberately avoided since then because of the confusion it caused. "Summon that does not start a chain" is long sure, but it leaves no confusion with what is happening. It describes when a monster is summoned without starting a chain, and you can tell when something starts a chain via a card's PSCT.

Ok now I have a question against which types of Special Summons am I allowed to use Solemn Strike, Judgement or Warning?
Solemn Strike can negate inherent summons (link, synchro, xyz, Pendulum) and things like Cyber Dragon. It cannot negate Ritual or fusion summons (with something like Poly), or any other spell or trap effect that would summon a monster.
Judgment can negate inherent summons, Normal summons, Pendulum summons, and flip summons. Also can negate any spell or trap, which would include any that could summon a monster. It can't negate monster effects, even if that effect would summon a monster.
Warning negates inherent summons, normal summons or flip summons. It can negate any spell, trap, or monster effect **but** only if part of that effect includes summoning a monster.

Uh no. I think you are confused, since your question is based on an incorrect assumption. Draco is NOT summoned by an effect, it's own or otherwise. It's a special condition to perform a standard XYZ summon. A standard XYZ summon is considered "inherent" because it is not by an effect, therefore Draco is inherent. A monster "summoning itself by its own effect" would by definition be non-inherent.

To perform the summon itself? No. There is no effect.
This is why some players don't like that term inherent because it doesn't tell you anything. "Not Summoned by an effect that starts a chain" is way more self explanatory, it's just a lot to say.

You activate him as an effect. So he is not an inherent special summon.

Select NORMALLY means target. I really depends on the card and there is barely a "rule" for it. First step would be to see if the card had it's text updated in the database.

Does the field spell zone count as backrow??
Field Spells are still spells and are still vulnerable to most forms of spell/trap removal so they would be considered backrow. The only type of backrow removal that won't hit Field Spells are things that are column-based like Infinite Impermanence. Backrow is mainly used to refer to non-monsters in general.
