I think you are way off on the ranking system. What you are describing is the issue that was there in the last closed beta which so many exploited to get Top Ace. You matches and your ranking are not like that now. Yes, you can't be demoted, but that is also true in SC2. In both games you can make a new league and then lose a bunch and keep the league. In both your matches are determined by your internal MMR and not your "points". In both you can't be promoted to the next highest level until you move back into that league and then work your way back up through there.
One can argue that no capping should take place, that's fair, but you are just misinformed on the way it currently works. As you probably know, they put that "highest league" feature in as a way to fight against ladder anxiety. I would say I really prefer the way SC2 shows you your MMR and where you are in the current league, or how far you have fallen into the lower league. But, that can be added if they feel it would help. Remember, in SC2 unless you are Master or higher, you only see the badge of your opponent before the game. You only see the opponents MMR after the match. So, the exact same issue exists you are describing in SC2.

Please link me if I'm wrong to where they said this, but as far as I know they haven't changed anything with how the ranking system works for this phase. It's still the same as before. Yes in SC2 you also can't get demoted, but you also can't continue to gain MMR to be promoted again until you get back to the base MMR of that league. In BA even if you go below the points of a league, you will instantly start gaining points on top of that point amount again from the first win. So you can still get promoted into the next league even if you aren't technically the MMR for that league. In SC2 this is never the case.
Also I was getting matched vs top aces when I was in like silver and gold, so the match making is either loosely based on MMR, or there just really aren't enough players playing at the moment.
The point about how MMR is shown after the game in SC2 is exactly what I'm talking about though. In BA you have absolutely no idea what rank your opponent actually is because of this. In SC2 you at least at the end of the game get to see exactly what MMR they are, even if they are below the league border that is shown on their profile. But in BA if I match vs a 5500 player, I have no idea if they are actually a 5500 player or if they just got to 5000 one time, lost 10 games in a row (on purpose or not) and then won a few games to go up to 5500 which isn't where they would be if the system worked like in SC2. And if they add in what you said like they do in SC2 with showing your real MMR and how far down in the league you are then perfect. That's what I'd like to see and that's what I'm talking about with my feedback in this video.
Like I said in the video, I know why the system is the way it is, to help casual players to ladder more easily, but like I said I think there's definitely a way to figure out how to make it less stressful for casual players while still having a much more accurate representation of what skill level each player is actually at.

@Gemini19 I'd have to show internal Slack messages, and I can't do that in a public TH-cam comment thread. But, I believe they have mentioned a few times that your matchmaking is MMR based, so you should play people near your rating. Since you are a good player, you might see more variance since the population isn't as dense as that level during beta. Otherwise, you'd have to play more bots which is not fun at all at your level.
By way of observational evidence, did you notice how much harder it was to rank up this time? Only good players made Top Ace this time and not "everyone can get Top Ace if they play long enough" like last time. The exploit was closed.
I do see the goal. It's cleaner to have these nice 1000 point league boundaries, but it "feels better" to see the true MMR. Anyway, I'd encourage you to reach out to David. I'm sure he can clear it up root sweet.

@@TomThompson I agree that they seem to have fixed the exploit from last phase, but the actual system where you can still gain points even after losing a lot below the threshold is still there to an extent. I just want to see the actual rank/MMR that I have rather than a random number that doesn't have any true value.
It didn't feel that much harder to rank up this phase compared to last as I just didn't have as much time this phase to play as last time, but I also just had more losses in the middle because I was trying out more new things. It felt more or less the same as before.
But yeah I just want more transparency in general. I always prefer to know exactly what my and my opponents ranks are.
