It's hard to tell. The most obvious answer is Sengoku, but recently I've been leaning more towards the Meiji. The rapid changes, clash, and mixing of modernity and tradition.
It's even more interesting when you focus on the North of Japan - Hokkaido (Ezo) and even southern Sakhalin/Karafuto. The frontier feel, Ainu culture still alive and kicking, the short-lived Ezo Republic being a very interesting project, Russian-Japanese connections, and related to them some surprising connections between Japan and my country - Poland (google Bronisław Piłsudski for example).
It's even harder to pick the most interesting historical figure, partially because I feel that I know too little about too few to make this choice.

I find it fascinating that in Japanese history nobody ever sought to unseat and replace the emperor, as people would in every other part of the world, but instead usurped all the powers from the emperor while maintaining the pretence of being loyal to them. Like you say, theirs is the longest lasting royal dynasty in history.

Yes this has a lot in common with the Egyptian way of viewing the pharaoh as a link to the gods and therefore not directly attempting to usurp power from him I know that this happened a few times in Egyptian history but even so for the majority of the 3000 years that their empire lasted the pharaoh died of natural causes just like The Japanese emperors

I suppose it served no purpose to usurp total control of the imperial family as well as the warrior class even if one held great power.
The only man who did "unseat" an emperor so to speak was Ashikaga Takauji and this resulted in the Northern and Southern court periods until the 3rd Shogun, Yoshimistu basically nullified the Southern court as a serious threat.

Rice was discovered from a pottery 16000 years ago, and a rice paddy 5000 years ago was discovered. In other words, rather than the rice cultivated being transmitted from the continent, it would be the established theory to move to the theory that rice cultivated from Japan to the continent!

Hello, I am a major of East Asian Studies with a minor in history. I just have a simple correction, one thing to note about the Imjin War or the Korea-Japan War of 1592-1598 is that at its conclusion, it was not merely a “cease” or abandonment in invasion. It was a total retreat for the Japanese because they were utterly defeated by the Korean Navy and the Korean Ground Forces. The Japanese stuck in a defensive and retreating position were fearful for their lives and wondered if they could go back to Japan again because they were utterly surrounded by the Koreans and the Korean court did not want to let Japan to just withdraw its troops like that, so the battle of Noryang happened in 1598 where 3/4s of the Japanese fleet of 500 trying to break the Korean blockade were decimated by the Korean Navy led by Yi Sun-shin during the battle of Noryang which was the largest naval battle in recorded history.

The latest scientific research shows that Japanese rice cultivation began in the Jomon period about 7000 years ago.
Therefore, it is wrong to explain that rice cultivation was reported by Korea during the Yayoi period.
Also, before BC, Japan made a nation called Baekje in Korea. This is clarified by the fact that a number of Japanese-style front and back buds have been discovered in Korea.

There's something amusing about the "(all periods of Japanese history documentary)" in the title. The reason it amuses me is because it's necessary since all other Japan documentaries skip straight to the Sengoku Jidai and some of them even skip that.

That Black and White picture at the end noting the US Occypation of japan is quite famous.
To the right is the Emperor of Japan and next to him is a US Officer, the picture was intended for distribution among the japanese population to prove to everyone that their emperor was just a man, and not a god.

@@wakakabravo7998 A lot of countries copy their culture from America?
Sure many parts of the culture are inherited, but most of American culture is also inherited from Europe.
America doesn't even have its own language, it speaks a foreign language (English).
So I'd say it's unfair to say that countries simply copy American culture, as if they have no culture of their own. It goes both ways.

ash fullen , Dance culture like disco, hip hop, popping, and swing, or music culture like jazz, raping, rock and roll, and blues or, fashion culture like blue jeans, bell bottom, cow boy hat, and t shirt are pop culture that really popular and have been practicing by people around the world no matter what generation you come from. Did u know where this culture come from ? yes from America. They produce more pop culture then other countries. We don’t see it as culture from US because this culture have spread all around the globe and we get used to it. Just because US use English as their communication language that doesn’t mean it have no culture. English in America have their own dialect even for each state. Some of the words have different meaning between America and british english and different spelling for the same word. Lot of countries are like that such as brazil, mexico, Singapore, Haiti and so on. Will u say they don’t have culture too since they don’t have original language ? So I'd say it's unfair to say that America as a countries simply don’t have their culture. It goes both ways.

I understand that, why the person who made this video can not fully express the war Korea-Japan between 1592 and 1598. The reason is that the contents of Japanese history, which is prevalent in the West, have been greatly reduced. That war such as the Asian version of the 100-year war, is very important. Simply, Joseon won the naval battle and Ming won the land battle. However, this is to say the opposite, joseon lost the land war and ming had no navy to send.
After the war, Joseon stuck austerity measures to overcome economy crises, so abandoned the Goryeo's tradition and moved on to modern times from the Middle Ages. The Ming Dynasty, even collapsed and changed to the Qing Dynasty. However, as of this time, Japan had its presence in Northeast Asia for the first time in thousands of years, and moved its capital to Tokyo exactly two years after the defeat. In modern Japanese history book, they try to reduce the content by focusing only on the result of defeat. While, There is nothing to be ashamed of because it is one of the most important historical points in Northeast Asia and has gained as much as Japan lost. You must learn.

The Spanish had very minimal contact, mostly through the Portuguese merchants during Iberian union.
Only mentioned there most lasting impact which was gun powder.
