Superman is coming back to our screens soon with the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League. But taking a short glance at the history of the character shows that there’s been a whole lot of variations of Superman and other people taking on the mantle. Here we go though some of the best, weirdest and worst.

I'd love to see them use Val-Zod. The story could even be that the world knows Zod as a bad guy, then when Val comes to earth or tries to be a hero the world automatically thinks he's bad. So the story is about him coming out from the shadows of his evil father and becoming a hero in his own right. You could even have Kal-El in this world too. He doesn't trust Val and Lex hates Val or tries to make friends with him. I think that'd be really cool and different for a Superman movie
I would prefer that. I just hope they won't racebend Clark Kent. No one wants that shit when there are 2 established black supermen characters that they, wb, now have a chance to elevate. I just hope they aren't going to be stupid about this

Well it would be a bit something, especially with certain antagonistic relationships with Batman, if the two smartest, richest white dudes on their planet seem to want to kill a powerful black guy.
EDIT - It's akin to Stan Lee rethinking his take on Kingpin and making him white cause he realized it would be a bad look for his majority white superheroes to be beating up a black guy back in the 60's.

The only version I have heard of that wasn't mentioned in this video was the Flashpoint version of Superman, all skinny and devoid of any human interaction for years. Kind of sad.

I love that when ever there is a Superman + other hero smooth together ... they feel obligated to mash Lex Luthor the main enemy of that Hero... leading to such poor ideas as 'Green Skull' for Capitan America mash up, and Joker Luthor for the Batman mash up. Side note Luthor Joker looks like the Jack Nicholson Joker, if he was cast today.
Joker Luthor: a brilliant, crazy billionaire businessman, that wants to see the world burn, but justifies it as protecting humanity? Isn't that Elon Musk?

The only alternate version of Superman that I'm genuinely familiar with & know everything about is Red Son. I've heard others being mentioned here & there but I honestly don't know much about 'em

The Image of Johnathen Kent and Jor El passing the baby back and forth under the guise of their planet being doomed is the funniest idea for an else world's story ever. Supermans in stasis in the pod and by the time he lands with someone else and actually opens up he's like 30.
Secret Identity is one of my favorite Superman stories. Right up there with All-Star Superman.

Red Son is the best Superman comic. The twist at the end is my absolute favorite.

I remember sometime in the mid to late 90s there was a time when Superman split into two separate versions, Superman Red and Superman Blue? What the hell was up with that?

There’s a storyline from 1999 that went across all 4 Superman titles at the time called The One Man JLA. Each issue was a what if Kal-El landed on different planets including OA, Thanagar, Rann and Mars. The first time I had to wait every week for each issue and I bought them all at the grocery store. That’s how long ago that was.

Action Comics (1938) Issue 757 (Thanagar)
Adventures of Superman (1987) Issue 570 (Rann)
Superman: The Man of Steel (1991) Issue 92 (Mars)

I love Jon Kent Superman in the DCeased comics. It’s cool to see him alongside Damian Wayne as Batman and Cassie Sandsmark as Wonder Woman. It’s really hopeful to see that the Trinity will carry on, even when Bruce, Clark, and Diana are gone

Y'know I always wanted to see a Goku VS Superman comic that was basically the Death/Return of Superman but Goku is there. Plays out more or less the same but with the caveat that Clark/Kal L never comes back, he's just dead for good, and it ends up being Goku who stops Cyborg Superman. Then it would end with Goku becoming the new Superman and carrying on the legacy.
I'm a fan of Kenan Kong, the New Super-Man of China. Gotta love the old "huge jerk becomes slightly less of a jerk" story.
As a side note, between Superman: Last Son of Earth and Batman: In Darkest Knight, I think "what if such-and-such was a Green Lantern" was a bit of a thing with Elseworlds.

Did you read "it's a bird...", its not exactly a different take on superman, but rather a take on coming up with new ideas for superman and having a difficult time due to the nature of the character, which is perhaps the very reason why most of the variations you mention in the video was created. :)

Some alternative supermen I remember:
1- the Superman raised by mexican inmigrants that was the son of Zod from "Justice League Gods and Monsters"
2- Sunshine Superman, the african-american Superman from the hippie universe
3- the Clark Kent from "Superman Legacy", an elseworlds story where a kryptonian arrives to 18th Century England, prevents the American Revolution and installs a colonial dictatorship. This universe Clark Kent is the kryptonian grand-grandson, he's basically just a regular human.
4 - Centaur Superman from that weird alternate universe where the Greek gods helped Germany to win World War II and Clark Kent is a douchey novelist that lives on the Moon.
5- Cowboy Superman... I don't know anything about him but I remember there's a cowboy universe in Grant Morrison's "Multiversity" so there's that

Why noone seems to remember the Superman Red/Blue era? for a while it was the canon Clark Kent, it was a huge deal it was all over the media!, also i think it would be great if they take Calvin Ellis into that storyline, with the diverse universe that was set in the 90's Crisis on Infinite Earths, also a great way to give it a break from that darker DCEU into something more silver-agey, like Wonder Woman 1984, could work wonders!

It could be interesting if you have a story where Clark Kent hasn't become Superman yet when he encounters a member of the Green Lantern Corps. The dying lantern gives Clark the ring because he senses Clark is a good person, but doesn't realize he's already got some superpowers. (He can have Superman-esk powers, but at a much power level so the Green Lantern powers are also relevant.)
And in a twist Green Lantern Superman's archnemesis ends up being Hal Jordan who resents Superman for getting the power ring instead of himself.

Secret identity was fantastic! I want to say he was kryptonian but hailey's comet activated his kryptonian powers. He was teleported to earth I want to say, been a while so I might be wrong but it blew me away when I read it.

I quite liked the version from Gods and Monsters - where Superman is A) The son of Zod and B) Raised by Mexican immigrants, who accidentally stumble onto his crash site seconds before the army shows up. It does fall a little bit into the trope of "Superman but he's edgy now" but they do a lot of fresh things with the character. It's worth a watch - there's Vampire Batman and Wonder Woman but she's one of the New Gods too.
Secret Identity is one of my favorite books. Only 4 issues in the series but it's a wonderful read. It's thoughtful, wistful, and introspective. The impressionistic art style is gorgeous. Must-read for anyone that ever feels like a loner / outcast.

Superman Blue was the first comic run I finished. I was like 6 and I still love him. I had the special Crushed Velvet variant of Superman Blue #1. I know everyone hates Superman blue and idc he's the best

Well they have done it before in the past during the 90s. It's been hinted in Doomsday Clock that Superman will fight Hulk and Thor in 2030 during the "Secret Crisis". Doomsday (I think) dies protecting Superman. And a recent Thor comic showed a league of "gods": a sun God, a speed God, an ocean God, a God of green light, a God of the dark, a God of strength. So who knows. A modern crossover might be in the works.

He's the President and he's Superman. Ironically in "Chronicles", Michael B. Jordan's role was very similar to a young Barak Obama. I believe that's a big reason why Jordan has had so many roles in Hollywood since(compared to the other actors in the movie)
But my favorite "other" version of Superman was from a Elseworld Annual story around the time all the DC annuals were linked to a big event called "Armageddon 2001". It was drawn by the great John Byrne and in it Krypton explode in the 19th century and an important man from the planet manage to built himself a ship and escape and land in the US during the Revolutionay War and turns the tide for the Brits and they win the war. He gets to have an important role in the Confederacy of America, "Warlock Supreme" or something like that. He's a very cold and intelligent man with long white hair.
