My 6" Mitutoyo did the same blinking display yours exhibited today. I disassembled it to clean the rail, the wipers, everything, but it appeared it was completely dead. Then I noticed that if I was holding the battery gently inside its case, the display never began it endless blinking. I thought I'd try a little additional pressure on the inside of the plastic battery retainer cap. I folded up and cut to size a small triple layer of paper towel which applied that same gentle pressure against the battery, and it now works flawlessly again. Give it a try before you buy a new display/electronics unit.
Thanks for the video, I have a 500-351 that was eating batteries and giving and 05 error. I completely disassembled, including the PCB and cleaned it up with a q-tip and acetone. Now its good as new and saved over $100 for a similar new Mitutoyo. A PZ00 was the best tip I could find for this job.
Not always the case. I changed bateries in mine yesterday and this problem is stil present. And I will defenitly try this. if it will solve my problems. Thanks for the nice video.
His was not blinking. His was stopped to blink liked freezed. But thank you. I changed the battery and my was blinking too. Now it works well after push the button 😘
Just bought one and opened it yesterday and checked it out and all was working perfect. Today I go to the shop pick it up and can't move the jaws with the thumb screw. Help!
The 189 webpage no longer seems to show prices, or even parts. Do you still support this caliper or is it something best ordered through MSC? I'd rather buy from the "little guy" especially if they're posting up good how-to videos like this.
Here you can get a parts list directly from Mitutoyo. From there you can go to your local supplier. www.mitutoyo.co.jp/eng/support/service/parts_list/attestation.html

Video wasn't helpful but your comment was! I shimmed the battery with a folded post-it and its working now.
My thoughts exactly. When he showed the it was blinking with the battery, the battery contacts were clearly the most likely issue.

Great Job !!!! As stated below, you were clear and concise on describing how to disassemble the unit. Thanks for sharing.
Where can get the Spare parts for replace..? Can I get it online ??
And what is the part Name..?
Legend !!! I found 30 broken ones so this vid is very handy ordering my screens asaap
Where do you buy the display from?
What is the cost of the electronics/display? I'm guessing it might be a high percentage of the cost of a new unit?
If you hold the origin button for 5 seconds after a new battery it fixes that issue an no need to replace the display

Donde puedo comprar el displey de un vernier de 24" mitototoyo

Are you sure about using a "phillips" screwdriver? If made in Japan, wouldn't those screws be JIS screws?
Any chance the depth gage rod can be re-attached?
Replace the battery, then press and hold the "ORIGIN" button. Then it will reset and come back up to 0.00".

For the cost of these things the display should always work, barring damage!
Saved my Digital vernier which was factuating reading earlier
What are those two holes on top of the (I’m not sure what to call it) electronic body just where the tensioning knob?
They control the amount of friction you have when sliding on the beam.
What if it turns on but it doesn’t read when you adjust?
yes but the display was working (blinking) the origin button goes on these.
Your should use a JIS screwdriver not Phillips.
About how much would a new electronic board cost. I have the same model you are repairing.
